BF 109 K4 vs FW 190 D9 vs P51D; cant decide
fastfreddie replied to EliteKatze's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Since 1.5 updates the K-4 is much easier to fly. The Dora is still my favorite plane so far. -
I'd sure the weapon armorer or whoever did the install and maintenance for these planes checked them every time before they were installed. Personally we were issued the same weapon with the same 2 barrels every time so figuring out the timing wasn't an issue. All the way in and 3 clicks out for my weapon ... still remember it 15 years later. When you do enough night fire exercises you find out its important to know the timing of your weapon. Mustangs only carried 400 rounds on the inner guns and 270 on the other weapons. I seriously doubt overheating was a serious problem unless they held the trigger the entire 400 rounds on the inner weapons. It just didn't happen whether you didn't have a sight picture that long or you used trigger discipline because there was no rearming. Now I would like to know about gyro sight failure rate of the Mustang under high g's. I watched one interview with a pilot that mentioned it but haven't seen it anywhere else.

I was a .50 gunner for 3 years in the Army and rarely encountered any issues. We did headspace and timing checks when switching barrels or if we were unfamiliar with that particular weapon. To be honest I knew my weapon so well that I didn't even need to use the metal spacer to set the timing. Most malfunctions were feed problems with the links and I never saw a runaway .50. There may be a slight difference in the fire rate in some .50s but not enough you can really tell. We did warp a .50 cal once because we put over 3000 rounds through it in one night. It would still fire but would start jamming frequently but no Mustang would fire that many rounds through one weapon in a sortie.

I wish them luck but have little hope of seeing this craft completed with this group. No restoration experience and outsourcing all the restoration of parts will make finishing a plane like this unlikely to say the least. I'd love to see it in one piece or flying but this has to be a very difficult project for seasoned restoration groups ... can't imagine learning on a craft like this.

I'm imagine that there have been enough trainers released by now that ED and third parties should know if its worth the time or resources. I won't buy one period ... I think they belong in FSX or other sims and we haven't seen a real WWII release in almost a year. There have to be dozens of other frames that would attract more attention like early war WWII planes, Japanese, or Soviet craft. TBH if you can't take off and fly the Mustang trainer with a little practice you have little hope in the other craft. You can joyride in any aircraft already released if thats your goal in DCS.

What do you want to see most in DCS World?
fastfreddie replied to Wags's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The thing with is that dynamic campaigns would benefit every era of aviation for WWII to current and all air frames. -

Choose Dynamic Campaigns but need a option for less training aircraft. -
HORTON Ho229 v4+ by Polychop Simulations

Great news and good luck! I'll buy this if released and look forward to see how bad it truly was to control. -
DCS WW2 Tank Module in the future?
fastfreddie replied to Devil 505's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I agree with you here especially with 2.0 being around the corner but only 3rd party devs(yourself) or ED know how far they can improve the ground side graphics in that system right now. I've found the part about the AI being absolute deadly to be true because of the current damage model and they seem to detect everything as soon as it arrives in range no matter where it pops up from. Most all of the AI ground units are deadly accurate at most settings when your attacking from the front but seem to struggle somewhat with air targets moving horizontal because they don't know how to lead. -
Will I have my Spitfire for Christmas?
fastfreddie replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I understand it takes alot of time but we got the FW190 in August and the K4 in December. It's almost been a year since we've seen a WWII aircraft role out while releases of endless amounts of trainers (3rd party mostly) continue. Hell I'm flying helicopters now and not particularly great either lol. -

I would hope ED could roll out more than one WWII fighter a year .... its going to be 2018 before we see the Me-262 at this rate. -
AWACS frequency and FuG 16ZY
fastfreddie replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
It would be nice when we get the WWII maps if they model the Axis/allied radar systems with realistic ground control. I'm sure the data is out there and I remember in the Ho-229 documentary they used certain settings to replicate allied radar systems of WWII to see its stealth characteristics. -
Black Shark 2: Republic Campaign
fastfreddie replied to kontiuka's topic in Black Shark 2 The Republic Campaign
If they put swastikas on German Fighters for a WWII campaign certain European countries would have issues with it and if you think about where DCS is developed and what it going on in that region you should be able to see why they tread lightly. Never going to see full realistic scenarios including locations with time period maps in most cases, realistic flight times to targets, or even the amount of units actually involved in most areas of conflict. -

Same here. BS1 to BS2 Upgrade user here and it went fine. $6.99 using some of my bonus dollars I've had for more than a year. Make sure your DCS 1.5 is updated and you have no restrictions from your browser/anti virus software. -
Black Shark 2: Republic Campaign
fastfreddie replied to kontiuka's topic in Black Shark 2 The Republic Campaign
I really starting to like flying the Black Shark but dealing with AI wingman who need constant attention to the point where all they do is carry extra missiles for me is killing the single player. I'd be happy to buy this to fly co-op with someone else that has purchased it. -

KA50 Target Designator "a bad JOKE"
fastfreddie replied to OGREMAN's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Not sure if this belongs here or not but I've recently started playing again after several years absence. I'm getting the target locked in range with the "c" coming up but after I fire the missile travels about 1km then dives into the ground. Sometimes it works ... sometimes it takes 3 shots to work correctly so maybe its my fault. Any suggestions? -
I'd be all for having both in the game but I think the B17 was promised in the WWII fund raiser so thats what we will get. My grandfather was a rear gunner on the B-24 in the Pacific and he has several interesting stories. He completed the entire tour (I believe 500 flight hours) and was shot down once my Jap AA. I doubt I'll get to see him before he dies or I'd video record his experiences.

Recommend courtmartial of flight leader from "Patrols" mission.
fastfreddie replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: UH-1H
I think I passed this one on my first or second attempt but yeah following AI helicopter in these types of missions is a pain in the ass. Whoever creates these missions is setting the AI aircraft speed way too high (reminds me of trying the Blackshark follow the Hind introduction mission) when you have to maintain almost 100% just to keep up. -
I think most future maps will be more modern 60's to current given some of the maps that have been announced. It would nice to give more modern planes the ability to fly with this map and their isn't a lot of modern bases in that region.
-
Didn't they use mostly grass fields? Not sure Uncle Sam is going to want his F-18 landing in a muddy field while stopping the invasion of illegals.
-
Good work. Recently started to fly the Blackshark after about a 5 year absence and still getting the attack runs down. Nothing like going along killing everything in sight when a Manpad behind a building or that SAM site you didn't see ends your fun. Hopefully they get 1.5 stable with the single players because at the moment ... it crashes too often.
-
Pretty much agree with this. Mustang is very simple to learn to start up, take off, and land with a free trainer. It doesn't get any easier with any of the German planes or future releases.

Rather have the U2 than the U4 version personally. BK 5 cannon in the 410 was notoriously inaccurate and only the very best pilots were able to hit anything with it at the ranges they hoped to use it. I think it had like a 2% hit rate but I'd imagine it would depend on the documents available on which version gets made if ever. I think the only 410s left in the world are A1/U2 versions and one is in Britain.
