Finally dusted off my Huey and started flying it after watching this. I've had it for over a year and have probably flown it 5 times. I really have to get better at hovering and landings before I get more involved but its coming along. Seems like this bird needs stick extensions more than the WWII birds with the TM Warhog. Any profiles for the Huey out there for the TM?

Wait till the next sale and you can probably get the Mustang, Warthog, and Dora for less than $50.

They are a British company and seem to be doing aircraft that they have easy availability to at this time. The former creators of the DCS WWII Europe 1944 gave us one good thing ... planes that operated in the same theater at reasonably the same time but even those choices don't make everyone happy. Hopefully with time someone will step up with the P-38, F4U, or planes from other countries.

The 30 mm mess up the poor mustangs...
fastfreddie replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
I noticed that AI 109 seemed to be hard to kill at times (same as AI Mustang) but I've been shot down with a couple of hits to the engine or radiator in the Bf109. Hopefully we get some new features soon enough with 1.5/2.0 or after there release. -

I believe there are 3 damage stages for all the ailerons, rudders, elevators. I've lost ailerons in the Dora in steep high speed dives and I've lost elevator control in the K4 due to gunfire (it dove straight into the ground). Dora also has the cockpit glass damage modeled but all of them will need a review at some point in the future. 30mm cannon rounds should devastating damage to control surfaces and I think that because the Mustangs is the oldest some of those features aren't working or are missing. Seems like everytime I get shot down in the Mustang its engine governor or dead pilot. -

I've lost ailerons and elevators on both the 109/190 through combat and its even visible when your flying the Mustang to see portions of the tail missing of say a FW190. -

I'd also suggest that they also only use the 30mm so that they can see what is actually hitting. We all know the Mustang needs a DM update ... if you hit the wings or tail with a 30mm it should lose an aileron or elevator/rudder. Also I'm not sure if I've lost on engine due to a radiator leak but always get the prop gov failure. -
It's been like 9 months since we had a WWII release ... we need MOAR!:music_whistling:

WW2 air-frames - twin engine bombers ?
fastfreddie replied to JokerMan's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Don't forget we will be getting the ME 262 at some point even if nothing has been released on it lately. I'd be more than happy to purchase a Me 410 that served a mid to late war role but could enjoy something like the Ju88 also. -
A. You should be bringing the stick to the middle around 130-150 kph while it is on the ground. It also sounds like your countering too much forcing it to stall which is the snap effect your describing. You should be using slight rudder on takeoff and don't change the flap position until you hit about 250 kph with some altitude. Rapid changes will kill you quicker than you believe so make small steady inputs until you get the hang of it. B. Learn to trim the plane with the trim/rudder controls to keep the ball straight/centered. You can just trim the ailerons/elevator and use your rudder pedals to trim the plane. These are war birds not modern civilian props so keep that in mind. C. Slow frame rate? Computer issue perhaps. Hopefully future DCS engine updates will help with that. German planes weren't trimmed the same way as the P-51 ... you have to fly at certain speed/altitude to achieve some level of trimmed flight but the K-4 always seems to want to climb no matter what which is historically correct I believe. They used trim tabs for most of their planes which fly "trimmed" at around 450kph.

My P-51 White Whale - Beating the Bf-109-K One on One.
fastfreddie replied to Zilch's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I would take any dogfight against AI aircraft with a grain of salt. They don't have the same damage model as player flown aircraft so that one round to the engine or radiator that brings down a player won't against the AI. The AI also seems to fly the every aircraft to its absolute stall limit which won't happen in real life servers against other players. Use practicing against AI as more of a target practice and familiarization of the aircraft that what you will see online against people. The pilots you face online won't be similar to the ones faced in the war either ... most will have more flight time in this sim than the real pilots of the K-4. That part of history DCS probably won't be able to change but it is best to learn against other pilots. -
I'll have to check my FW books but if I remember correctly fuel was in such shortage that they didn't even taxi because they couldn't afford the 4 mins of fuel. They were towed to the runway or kept in forest very close to areas that they could take off from at that point in the war.

I believe the Dora pilot said they just got in a fired it up and took off but you may want to watch the video.
-
Good tips. I'd say that 350 kph is the minimal speed for all German aircraft and 450-550 kph is a good range for the K4. For the Dora the faster you fly the better you fight and I like to attack in speed ranges in excess of 650 kph. TBH you should be able to easily handle the practice ai offline once you master some basics.

Not sure about FC3 titles since I don't have any but Hotas/Rudder Pedals/Track IR may not be mandatory but should be very highly recommended for almost all the full sim modules that I have (P51, K4, Dora, Huey, Sabre, Mig 15, Blackshark, A10). This doesn't mean that you need a Thrustmaster Warthog but some sort of joystick/throttle with rudders is needed to fly these at proficient levels due to rotors/props in most cases. Track IR really helps you track targets in a very hard to spot engine and are worth every penny.

WW2 air-frames - twin engine bombers ?
fastfreddie replied to JokerMan's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I think some of the multicrew stuff has been put on limbo until the DCS 2.0 engine is ready for multiplayer in the same craft. I'd settle for AI B-17, B-25, or B-24s but I think it will be a long time judging by the P-47/Spitfire development before we see any flyable medium or heavy bombers. It's been nine months since the K-4 release and little information on the next fighter ... really feels like DCS 2.0 is holding alot of things up that they don't want to do twice. -
Very true Sith. Stuka G-2/D-5, Me 410s, and Ju88 would make great mid war designs also. Ju88 started off very early in the war and was seen in pretty much every front in Europe. It would be a dream to see Bf109 G2 or F4, FW190 A-3 or A-5, and other mid war allied fighters also.
-
Stuka D-5 was pretty much the same airframe and would make a great combo with the G-2. I'd love to see the Ju-88/Me410 and they would be first day buys for me. I can care less if they were competitive in late 44 because I would fly them regardless and I doubt many people would complain because they aren't considered "super props" like the Bearcat.
-
Excellent Vid! The P-38 one is great also if you haven't seen it.
-
I mentioned that on these forums quite awhile back to people complaining about the torque roll or whatever you call it. Throttle back to 2300 rpm or so at the proper alt and speed to make it disappear. It was trimmed to a certain speed range and going full blast isn't going to make it a smooth ride. Plus you kill your flight range when you run at higher throttle.
-
TBH some of the landing problems with the Dora seemed to be bugs (tailwheel bug) or FM issues that were resolved. Once you get used to these props landings aren't really that bad but they usually do require concentration.
-
I'll probably get everything eventually but the Spitfires will be bargain bin items unless someone gifts me a serial number. :smilewink: There are several other allied fighter I would like to see: P-38, F4U, and Hellcat.
-
Talking more about the takeoff, landings, and lack of trim controls that so many have complained about on these forums. Dora is by far my favorite plane so far and yes its systems are as simple as it can get. I personally have no problems with them but others don't care for its flight characteristics.

DCS WORLD 2 PREVIEW – WWII AIR COMBAT by Chuck
fastfreddie replied to uboats's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Looks like its coming right along and no gun smoke bug! -
I think the P-47 will be very easy and fun to fly especially after the Dora/K4. Not sure how much engine management we will have to do or if its pretty simple like the Mustang. Really the only bird I'm really looking forward to at this point until we hear more about the 262.
