OK I am confused by this one. What I would think would be a norm with any decent pedals (and crosswinds are more than decent by far) would be x axis left toe brake y axis right toe brake so if you indeed got twice as good braking adjusting the x axis I would think stomping on the left brake would give you a left turn as well since the right (y axis) shouldn't have been affected at all.

Exactly what Eldur is saying. I run the Rift S in DCS and at this point wouldn't run it any other way BUT in VR. Going from TIR 5 to VR is almost like going from no head tracking to TIR. Yes you lose some visual clarity when compared to monitors at the moment but the gain in immersion and WVR fighting ability IMO makes the trade off 100% worthwhile. I also have the TM MFDs and if you leave them in the same place as well as a controller (I only ever use the left controller for button pushing etc.) it doesn't take that long to get used to it. MFDs you just have to button count to get to the right button to push. Not as nice or fast as being able to see it but it still works. IMO yet another one that is worth the time to get used to. I use the TH WH + MFDs for most of the work and anything else the left controller so I never touch the keyboard at all in the hi fi modules like the F/A-18.

Thrustmaster F A 18 Grip Flight Stick Add On
Stubbies2003 replied to Steel Jaw's topic in Thrustmaster
IMO it just isn't worth that kind of extra investment to have the F/A-18 stick look but not add any functionality over the F-16/A-10 stick when flying the 18. Doesn't take that long to build the muscle memory if you fly the 18 regularly. -
Not sure if this is just a visual goof of DCS but I can have anti skid on and go for maximum braking and leave solid black tire marks all the way down the runway after landing. As far as the OP I must agree that the wheel brakes on the F/A-18 in DCS are just trash. The up side is that you can land at speeds that would make the F-16 jealous for being that slow and controllable. When light enough on gas not unusual to land in the 120s.

What am I doing wrong? (F/A-18 landing)
Stubbies2003 replied to PL_Harpoon's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
I don't care who you are that is funny right there. :P -
IMO VR is completely better than TIR. Especially in WVR fights there is no comparison. I used TIR-5 for a decade prior to jumping into VR and VR takes it to the next level.

Well since I fly MP exclusively atm and my jaunts are normally hours long a "short track" isn't much of an option. :)

Got to see this one on a SC when I was taxiing in F/A-18 with wings folded. This SC had two sea hawk helicopter statics just inboard of the island and I was taxiing back towards cats 3/4. I was close to the statics but not close enough to hit them. At least visually that is. When my wing got to the first static sea hawk the plane veered to the left as if I had run into the helicopter. I slammed on the brakes and went F2 view to see what had happened. The aircraft looked fine and I was still visually clear of the helicopters. I was in NWS HI and tried a full right turn but the aircraft wouldn't move at all. I even went to full mil just to see if it would do anything but it didn't move at all. I went back ti idle power and was talking to a friend about this and I started to get random short black screens. At that point I figured the best move was to just get a new aircraft before it got worse. Nevermind that stuck position was fouling up the landing area. After getting a new aircraft things were fine but I have made sure to be WAAY clear of the statics now.

Have seen #2 a few times when down low and getting on the flight control jinking against AAA. Very strange indeed.
-
I think what the OP is referring to isn't the additional guys off to the side which have idle animations already but the crew waiting for aircraft to launch.

You won't get straight takeoffs from any airfield I have taken off from. Either the runway itself or wind I *always* have to use rudder to keep her on the centerline of the runway on airfield take offs. Sometimes left, sometimes right but if you thought you could just line it up and take off without using the rudder to maintain position on the runway you are sadly mistaken.

Either what Rudel said or you accidentally assigned canopy jettison to a button or some such and are inadvertently hitting it. I have hundreds of hours in the F/A-18 in DCS and that has never happened to me.

F-18 catapult launch problem
Stubbies2003 replied to Orestd's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
After you hook up to the shuttle on the F/A-18 you put the launch bar switch back up. This will get rid of the green lbar light. Different procedure again from the F-14 where you do not put the launch bar back up after hooking to the shuttle. -
F-18 catapult launch problem
Stubbies2003 replied to Orestd's topic in DCS World Tutorial & Help Requests
No that would be more of the F-14 launch. With the F/A-18 if you press U after already being hooked up to the shuttle it will disconnect you from the shuttle and drop the JBD thus a guaranteed swimming F/A-18. With the F/A-18 and on the Stennis you simply go to full AB and the launch happens automatically. -
Unfortunately putting that info into the HUD can clutter it up quite badly in busy environments thus is only situationally useful.
-
Yeah I drop CCIP Rockeyes all the time and of course you must dive to do CCIP but I never have to point it straight down as you said a few times. More like 30-40 degrees of dive all depending on air speed and altitude. Going to go with Darcwaynard on this one since you didn't state what you are dropping and guess those are high drags. Another possibility is failure to set up EFUZ and MFUZ and possibly VT correctly depending on weapon type. Check to make sure you don't have DUD in the HUD or an X through the weapon type.

F16 Radio Com 1 or Com 2 set to BOTH not working for Guard
Stubbies2003 replied to Hotdognz's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
It doesn't "lock out" the ICP. It simply tells the aircraft what to look at for control of different systems. The ICP still works just fine if C&I is set to backup for DED functions where the DED is the only entry method. Steerpoints are a good example. The UFC is the only way to enter manual steerpoint information into the aircraft so the C&I knob position has no effect on UFC operation for bits like that. -
Most definitely not a solution simply a work around just like removing the chaff/flare info on the SA page is a work around.
-
Yes but at the end of the day it is still driver related somehow since I fly the 18 in VR with SA page on the AMPCD and the chaff/flare is always on yet I do not see my performance tank at all on an older driver.

Perhaps not at operational bases but at training bases like Luke AFB the SUU-20 were used all the time for A-G loaded birds. Normally a SUU-20 on one side and a TER on the other. Never saw the SUU loaded with rockets but 6x BDU-33? All the time.

Hrm wonder if this ties in with what I see on the 18 for FCS BIT checks. It is fairly common for me to have to do the FCS BIT test twice as doing it once will go through BIT but it will show the RESTRT you are seeing after the first one is done. Doing another BIT I will see SF TEST and then GO after the BIT is done. I see that on normal starts without cycling battery or engines and as stated it is very common to have to do the BIT twice for it to show GO.

I have used my standard loadout of Mav F and Rockeyes as well as putting the cannon into strafe mode on beta and haven't had any issue seeing or using those AG weapons.

If you get into VR flying in DCS you won't want to fly without that. Going from no head tracking to TIR5 is about the same level of difference going from TIR5 to VR.
