I think historically that's how 99% of all encounters played out during WW2. That's the way to do it. Before Track-IR everyone was using the hat-switch (or keyboard) to look around, track aircraft and dogfight. We did just fine. Once you got proficient with your thumb it became second nature. Personally speaking it took years for me to transition over from hat-switch to Track-IR; having a fixed point of reference during dogfights combined with lightning-fast changes of view were boons of the hat-switch days. Even these days during a vicious scrap I'll find myself disorientated in a way that would never happen when I was using the hat-switch. But I'd never go back - the advantages of head-tracking do outweigh the disadvantages, in my opinion. If you are considering Track-IR make sure you look into the vastly cheaper alternatives. Track-IR is great but very, very expensive.

[FIXED] Wings bugged on official liveries made by Maler
Lixma 06 replied to LcSummers's topic in Bugs and Problems

Seems to be all skins - even Reflected's unofficial ones; I guess they're using the same prop texture. I've attached a mission file - it should be visible from the start. P-51prop.miz

[FIXED] Please remove static cockpit reflections from the canopy
Lixma 06 replied to TAW_Impalor's topic in Bugs and Problems
They look fantastic now (Spitfire needs some love, though) The only thing I'd ask the devs to consider is increasing the resolution of the textures used on the canopy. Mostly it's fine but particularly when the sun hits them the glare effect looks just a bit too pixelated; mainly because the player's virtual head is so close to the canopy. Other than that, they're great - I hope other aircraft/helicopters get similar treatment. -
I don't think the rudder was doing anything. I've noticed that even when 'flat' shadows are enabled aircraft will nevertheless use a projected ('default' style) shadow when passing over buildings, trees etc. It looks really good so I wonder why it can't be the same for the ground too? That way we can still use 'Flat' global setting and also have a great-looking aircraft shadow - minus the performance/aesthetic hit that 'default' shadow settings currently come with.

109 sounds and other so called improvements
Lixma 06 replied to birdstrike's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
One thing I don't like about the cannon sound is that you can hear the reverb/echo from when it was recorded. This might make sense when parked on the ground among buildings etc, but not so much when airborne. -
Sounds like a calibration issue. Some things to check... Ensure you haven't got two controls mapped to the throttle. If you haven't already check the 'Slider' box in your throttle axis settings. When you move the throttle is the red dot tracking the black box across the whole range of movement - like this? Also, is it just the lower end of the throttle giving you trouble - can you reach 100% power? It might not be as noticeable.

[CANNOT REPRODUCE] Cockpit light flickering
Lixma 06 replied to BONGSOO's topic in Bugs and Problems
I think this happens when 'FLAT ONLY' shadows are selected in the options. A few other aircraft are manifesting the same flickering. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=228985 Try turning cockpit shadows on and see if it goes away. -
In the controller options check your throttle axis - it sounds like it might not be calibrated properly, so 'all the way back' might not actually be registering in-game as fully back. e: does it also creep forward when starting a mission hot from the runway?
-
Yes. It's a big one, though, and IIRC the problem occurs near the end of the flight. https://www30.zippyshare.com/v/xq0OgrsH/file.html e: well I just tried playing the track but after 30 minutes I'm still stuck looking at an airfield; I guess it's broken.

I think the idea is to have an option to fly without mirrors that doesn't leave the player looking at ugly black voids.

[FIXED INTERNALLY] Rotaries overly sensitive
Lixma 06 replied to Lixma 06's topic in Bugs and Problems
Good news. Thanks, Nine. -
I haven't tried the tutorials for a while so this may not work but try giving the space bar a long press rather than a tap.

[CANNOT REPRODUCE] Losing controller configurations...
Lixma 06 replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in Bugs and Problems
Not sure if it's coincidental but the P-51's controls (bindings, axes, curves) reset to default after the latest OB update. -
+1 I've requested the same thing for the Viggen, too. I don't know if it would be technically realistic (flipping the mirrors might not be an option on the real-life Harrier) but it would be a very welcome option.
-
+1 Good idea. Additionally, a global switch that sets every module's special options to 'realistic' (saves having to trawl through each one).
-
I've applied some drastic curves (and reduced the saturation) which does help but the default sensitivity seems extreme. Presumably the ratio is correct, or more realistic, for a full-length cyclic controller. But I still cannot maintain a steady turn. The only way is to give the Gazelle a constant feed of short cyclic 'pulses' in order to remain at your desired bank angle. Very strange.

Re: P-51 radiators - I did a few tests. These were done flying straight and level, no manoeuvring, so bear that in mind. I've found the coolant radiator works generally OK automatically, but it has a tendency to run hot. Going flat out the 'auto' setting will keep the needle in the void between the green zone and red line. This is great for low-drag shenanigans but I don't know if any damage is occurring running like this. The oil cooler's automatic mode seems broken or at least out of calibration. I tested by fully closing the oil till the temperature hit the red line then switched to auto - no change. But a five second manual push of 'open' brought the temps quickly back into the green. Running the engine cool (40°), with oil fully open, and then engaging auto the temperature will start rising so it is doing something.
-
OK, thanks. It feels very different to the other helos so it's probably just lack of seat time on my part. I've just put very generous axis curves on the cyclic and rudder and it's much more manageable.
-
I've tried with and without the AP but it seems impossible to hold your attitude in the Gazelle. For example, if you bank, even slightly, then it just keeps rolling until you recenter the cyclic. It feels like flying with an ancient digital joystick. Is this correct behaviour?
-
I think the usual solution is to go into your Config/Input folder, delete the Mi-8 folder, and let DCS rebuild a new default control set. Hardly ideal, but if you do try this make sure you back-up the folder first.
-
I'll be picking up a 970 m.2 from which I want to run DCS. Q: Is it as simple as dragging the whole 'Eagle Dynamics' folder across and creating new shortcuts or is there more involved? What about the DCS stuff that lives in the 'Saved Games/DCS' folder (config, missions etc)? Does that need to be migrated too?

There's no need to go down that rabbit-hole....all we have to do is look out of the window. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_blue Sky blue is the name of a colour that resembles the colour of the sky at noon.

I don't have the CE but this is what reducing the saturation does on a Mustang. Keep your eyes on the 'control helper' widget in the bottom-left. You'll see me pulling the joystick fully back at varying saturation levels. And this shows the difference in elevator authority in the external view...
