Don't forget to put player MiG-29A at forward bases, MiG21 is just a placemat compared to Mirage.

Probably the wrong forum, try a conspiracy theory forum like 'we didn't land on the moon', you'd probably get more agreement. :D

MiG 29S HUD & HDD display the same thing
Frostie replied to BattleAxes Skinner's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
This is a fallacy, the difference is so small it is negligible (not even 1km difference when cold), visually the MiG leaves a dark smoke trail. When it comes to fighting air quake the MiGs failings are not so easy to see but when it comes to controlling airspace it soon becomes apparent why one is classed an air superiority aircraft and the other is not. -
MiG 29S HUD & HDD display the same thing
Frostie replied to BattleAxes Skinner's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Yes poor wording on my behalf, I meant due to the radars on these aircraft ECM effectivness is not as good. Radars rely on ECCM to counter ECM this comes in the form of radar transmission power in DCS. The transmission power of the radar determines burnthrough range, the MiGs radar is weaker in this regard than the Flankers radar therefore the Flanker burns through the MiG ECM before the MiG burns through the Flankers to the tune of 12km. -

Frostie replied to BattleAxes Skinner's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Due to the MiGs weaker radar its ECM is not as good as the Su27 and F-15. The MiG also has *much less countermeasures *a fixed EOS with smaller scan limits than the Flanker *much less fuel (but you can operate at 90-95% throttle just fine) -
As said it is a safety feature. It works fine are you sure you didn't deploy it above 300kph, too fast causes the chute to instantly detach. This could be part of that particular mission scripting. The MiG still uses what is called the Standard Flight Model from LOMAC era, where as the Su27 uses the up to date Professional Flight Model. This means the MiG is not so smart in a lot of areas, you either lose the undercarriage or not, no in between. If you go off the runway in the MiG at speeds in excess of 200kph you will explode, if you try and land on the grass you will explode. With the FM of the Su27 doing these things impact the frame and control of the aircraft rather than just hitting the instant fail button. With a delicate touch you can land the Su27 at high speeds, the wheel brakes are based on pressure touch, with a button you have either off or full on, with a heavy or medium payload this puts a lot of pressure on the tyres therefore if you use a button you need to tap it to stop the wheels from popping, especially when you get below 200kph.

To GAR8 or to not GAR8, not that it matters.

I have my Rhino set up in a similair fashion to Kobeshow, mode 1 for fence out and mode 2 fence in, works like a master arm for me if you like.

Personally I don't like the look of the eject button as a pinky selection on the target lock. It could give a nasty surprise. I tend to leave eject on the keyboard. Airbrake works well on the slider for me, set an advanced command to key command when on then key again when off.

But you only want to be in touch with 3 or 4 players at most so why do you need to be in such a heavily populated server.
-
So why are you joining a server that has fighters in it, this baffles me the most by these complaints. There are plenty of good a2g servers out there why do you choose to join a mixed server just because there are 30 or 40 players on that server. You don't want anything to do with 90% of the players on the server so why join it?

(Bug) Su-25 Compass Misalignment Clarification
Frostie replied to Tony_Kito's topic in Su-25 for DCS World
The HSI is not a simple compass it is a gyro that needs to stabilise after power up, basically don't move the aircraft until it has had a chance to stabilise. This is obviously a simplified version with a time limit in place to simulate some sort of stabilising while the gyro spins up, but generally stabilising is recommended at a couple of minutes. The MiG-21 module is not infallible by design, HSI's are known for needing checking/adjusting quite often. -
Can't find contacts at close range
Frostie replied to VAF [136] Striker's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Yes you need elevation mapped for easy access as this is a primary function when using the radar. As has been said keep your range set at default 10 while you are getting to grips with how the scanning works, you can scan the whole sky at this setting and the majority of the time you won't need to set elevation beyond +/-3 or 4, 1 increment equalling the centre of the radar 1000m altitude +/- your own altitude, at 10km range. As you can imagine a setting of 60km range at +1 elevation would elevate your radar much less because it looks at +1000m of your own altitude at a point in the sky 60km from you rather than 10km. -
Can't find contacts at close range
Frostie replied to VAF [136] Striker's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Don't forget the radar has a refresh rate, it doesn't update instantly, otherwise or with that in mind are you sure it's not an elevation issue, the closer the contact is the smaller your radar cone is. -
ED have stated in the past that the max limit for a stable environment is 16 players. 15-20 upload should cover this.

DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
Frostie replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I can't wait to find out how many MiG-28s I can splash in one sortie whilst flying the Tomcat, i'm going to hazard a guess at erm.. eight. :hehe: -
You seem to be outside or on the edge of gimbal limits of the MiG EOS. It seems he lost total SA on you and pointed the nose in the wrong place at 10km range. This was pretty much a non contest, I don't believe the MiG even knew where you were and expecting to find you with EOS coming down on top of him like that is a tough ask. I don't understand the point of this, armed with R-77s against a lower bandit that is emitting at him but instead of using radar he is looking for you with EOS, bizarre, you seem to be out of burners and low creating a very low heat signature and really the MiG is just playing into your hands, flying blind and not too clever. These sort of tactics of flying around with just EOS work fine against guys that don't know what they're doing, if you're going to fly around at altitude like that against more experienced players you need to be more proactive and offensive with your radar.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 7
Frostie replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
I'm not sure that's such a good idea, in an 80s scenario A-10 and Su25 can be very effective at counter air, not just the fox 2s they pack but also they're durability and defensive capabilities. -
But not reasonable in a comparison of airframes. With regards to realism it all boils down to the mission, counter air might see the Flanker take off with just half a tank. After missile expenditure/engagements fuel load would be pretty low.
-
Not really, a full tank in the Flanker is over 2 and half times more fuel than a full tank in the Mirage.
-
Check fuel levels. The AI is pretty bad.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 7
Frostie replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
I think IRST sees helis at about 5km, no more than 10, hardly easy unless guided by GCI. As for radar, 200kph is out of the notch so you'd probably be seen with radar at 40km. Frogfoot-A was included in the last round, nearly took one up on Sunday but unfortunately my controls hadn't been set since reinstall. Tired of people? Which people or is this a presumption. I think the hardest part is avoiding CAP, A2G is always simple, knowing where units are just increases the speed to achieve the simple task. When enemy CAP is inbound or present that is where A2G pilots earn their stripes by keeping a cool head and not rushing into the AO which is still full of SHORAD to get the job done quicker but instead extending, staying safe, waiting for the call and trying again. -

Georgia have an Su-25T variant of some sort so Blue having access is not out of the realms of reality. But getting rid of SEAD sounds good also. -

+1 We've had some great GCIs but Rocco has been ever present and grown into the role of taking command, well done mate you've been a definite force multiplier. Personally i'm at a loss now it's finished again, getting some positive use out of the Mi-8 and Huey as well as re-finding the Su25T and Ka50 has been awesome over the rounds, I need to get back up to speed with the A-10C next. Thanks a million Buddy Spike you make DCS full value.
