Even with my mounted touchpad I still find myself reaching for a switch sometimes without thinking. It would be so cool to be able to actuallly do it. This would be as big as VR for DCS.

Samsung Odyssey WMR headset on sale for $399 at Microcenter.com
Thick8 replied to Wazoo's topic in Virtual Reality
The Samsung does room scale tracking. I have a 12x12 room that I play in and never have issues. -
Pimax users use the PSeye camera and PSmove software generally. I bought a Pimax a few years ago when their QC sucked (sent it back after 3 days). I also bought and modified a couple of PSeye cameras and made the tracking ball. It was kind of a PITA to set up but it worked Well.

Samsung Odyssey WMR headset on sale for $399 at Microcenter.com
Thick8 replied to Wazoo's topic in Virtual Reality
Yes and yes. Controller tracking drops out if they are not within view of the cameras on the front of the unit but they snap right back once they are back in view. the gyros and sensors in them are very good so there is no issue pulling a magazine or weapon off your belt without looking down. -
I modified mine because I have a big head with an IPD of 71. The mod had the benefit of moving the unit much closer to my face which increased the sweet spot significantly. So if you have a regular or smaller head a thinner pad would probably do for you. I posted the mod on the forum here I think. I’ll find a link for it and post it here. Here it is. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=203470

But how many of us are getting 90 FPS now? My counter rests solidly on 45 FPS. Is 90 some scientifically proven value or is it just an arbitrary number that someone pick at some point in time? IDK...

I think that there is some confusion regarding tracking. The Odyssey tracking is on par with the others; it’s the controller tracking that can be problematic when the controllers move out of sight of the cameras. The head tracking is spot on. Your right that it is a preference thing when picking out a headset. For me the driving factor was resolution and lenses. The Odyssey is quantifiabley better than the other offerings in that department at this point in time. So I went with it. I think a big part of the argument is based solely on which “team” one identifies with. Butter side up vs butter side down. Quite silly and immature really. I try to catch myself when I find myself traveling down that path. I don’t always succeed. As much as I personally dislike Lucky, I am thankful that arrogant little prick was able to pull off the Rift or we probably wouldn’t be having these discussions today. So YEA for the Rift!

One of the steamVR updates turned on dynamic SS. It messed me up for a couple of days. You have to go into the steamVR settings and set it to 100% and check the manual box to turn it off. I found that adding an additional 16Gb of memory helped considerably. It still takes forever for a MP game to load though. I take off the Odyssey and put it on the mannequin head and Imgur for about 5 minutes while I wait.

When are the reviewers going to be allowed to review?

I’m curious. what point is considered BVR? When I look up at a commercial airliner flying at altitude (26-34k ft) I would probably not see it if it didn’t have a contrail. And they are several times bigger than a fighter. How far out should we really expect to see a fighter in DCS? Heck, I’ve had a tough time finding a Cessna at 2 miles with the tower telling me where it is.

The Odyssey is significantly clearer than the Rift or Vive. Does it have its own set of issues, yes. But the Samsung has 2,304,000 pixels per eye. And the others have 1,296,000 pixels per eye. People talk about the pentile amoled screens not significantly reducing the screendoor effect compared to the others. This is true, but even with a similar screendoor as the others we are still talking a pixel increase of nearly 80% with a comparable FOV. I own an Odyssey and have now used a Vive rather extensively in DCS as well as many other games. And I can say with absolute certainty, it is impossible to obtain the picture clarity of the Odyssey with the Rift and Vive. And if you live near Sumter SC you are more than welcome to come try the Odyssey out.

Talk to me when you’re fat and 55. A lot is going to change for you in the next 15 years. Ask your grandpa.

About the time 2.5 came out SteamVR turned on SS automatically in the settings. Had my resolution set to 200%. Set it to manual mode, 100%. Make sure that dynamic resolution feature is turned off in the Windows WMR settings. There is also a quality setting in the WMR settings page. Texture quality should be set to performance in the Nvidia settings as well.

At 53 I was 260 lbs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and couldn’t go up a flight of stairs without taking a break half way up. At 55 I’m at 210 lbs, bp of 120/74 with a resting heart rate of 60, and the cholesterol is well within acceptable tolerances. And the sex... ;) 2 mile walk with my wife at least 3 times a week, Yoga twice a week, healthy(ish) diet. Did I mention the sex... You can do it brother.

VR with the Odyssey is pretty sweet. Almost 80% higher pixel count, deeper blacks, no ghosting, and less God Rays than the earlier offerings. We may not be at 2nd gen yet but we are beyond what initially came out. I waited for the Odyssey. Well I waited for something better than the Rift and Vive. Thought it was the Pimax (that was a a mistake). If you want VR, get VR. Don’t let someone who already owns VR tell you how you should wait while they are already enjoying the benefits of their choice. Throw a grand at a new video card while you’re at it, you won’t be disappointed...

I had a horrible experience with the 4K so I didn’t go anywhere near the kick starter. I’m still very sceptical about Pimax bringing a quality product to market. I am looking forward to seeing those reviews.

Adjusting the gamma helped with the deferred shading. Someone re-did the A-10 cockpit texture files so that the text is more legible.
-
No, you should wait until they come out with a fully functioning holodeck...

I’m on holiday for the next week so no testing until then. I can’t imagine that it was super sampling twice at 1.5 because that would have been a slideshow.

Update copckpit for better VR experience?
Thick8 replied to Sandman1330's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Adjust the in game IPD in the VR settings menu. I have my Odyssey, and the in game IPD set to match my actual IPD of 71. Everything is in perfect scale. Someone also redid the cockpit texture files to make everything more legible in VR. A must for the lower resolution HMDs like the Rift and Vive. -
The Intel machine was given to me several months ago and has been gathering dust since I got it. Didn’t care to go to all the trouble of swapping out the Ryzen to test it. My wife is interested in playing Elder Scrolls Online with me so I’ve dusted off the machine installed DCS, Steam, and ESO. I’ve also been bidding ($700) on water blocked 1080ti GPUs for a while and just won a Gigabyte Aorus Waterforce. I also bought an open frame case that will house both machines. So I need my machine on the top rack. Just not sure which machine should be my machine. I mainly play DCS VR, Project Cars 2 VR, Pavlov VR, X-plane VR, and SkyrimVR. Everything is in VR. The CPU clocks speed are the same, 16Gb ram in the Intel vs 32Gb in the Ryzen. 4 core vs 8 core. Just not sure and I only want to put this thing together once. Input?

Hi Guys, Been running 1.7 SS with no AA. Just tried 1.5 SS with 1.5 SSAA. Looks much nicer and there is no drop in FPS. Am I using it right? What is it doing?

The Odyssey is the highest resolution consumer ready HMD you can buy. The Vive Pro matched its resolution but still requires base stations that add way too much to the cost.

Server and Client on same network problems

I am so glad it's working for you. Could you lend me some assistance? I'm in over my head but I'm a quick learner. Here's what I have. Where did I go wrong? -
Server and Client on same network problems
Thick8 replied to BrassEm's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
I just posted this same thing in the main multiplayer forum before I read this thread. I'm trying to do the same thing. 2 computers hardwired to the router. both have static IPs assigned by the router (192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3). The server machine has port forwarding on port 10308 set up in the router. The server settings in game is using the router's address (11.19.14.214:10308 ) Both machines can join MP games. I don't know is if someone else out there can see the MP game running on my server machine. Not sure what else I need to do.
