I try to not use curves or very little and just get used to flying that way. I think curves settings and similar depend on what gear you are using. I use CH Products: Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Pro Pedals (all USB connectors) and the CH Control Manager. If you have similar contact me and I will share my settings.

Well, I wanted to get away from the need to also have the store bought box version Lock-On on my computer. I had BS1 then BS2. That's why I bought the newer version BS2. Then... I forgot I made the switch to the newbie BS2 months ago and saw an item in Module Manager concerning the Black Shark and clicked on it. What it did was took me back to BS1 again. Had to fix that. Getting older into retirement years is not the great adventure I have been led to believe... Damn memory! Well, all the meds we take don't help either, but I'm still alive.

I fire manually! Not auto. When targeting are your two round targeting HUD markers overlapping each other? If in a steady hover, I usually swing my tail around, hold position with my rudder pedals, re-target lock. FIRE! Works for me. I usually am on MP, quite often the 104th server, Red side. Missile rides the Laser beam to target. How-to instructions are in the flight manual. Don't know how many people know this: Using the Shkval in flight, click AP Route Mode on the Collective, click the two push buttons "Auto Turn On Target" and "Ground Moving Target". I'm still in Manual fire. In-Flight, I can acquire the target by looking around quite aways out. Copter moves to the targeting box in-flight while moving changing direction as I move the cursor targeting box. It will actually over-ride the current active waypoint in memory. Fly right to target, lock it and fire missile outside of range while moving to it. A bit nervy if its a Tor or similar. I'm moving to target outside of range, missile is on its way, by the time it hits the acquired target, I am in range within 8 KM and kill the target. It gets more complicated if you wish to survive very long in a hostile environment. Afterwards, after the target kill, need to know how to jump out of "AP Route Mode" to "Flight Director" in free-flight and lose altitude and position quickly and get out of the hostiles line of detection. I still hit my target, every time! Somebody said they found the Ka-50 not very exciting. How aggressive do you fly? LOL!

Fly Sorties with Adequate Air Cover I'm usually in the Ka-50. Sometimes, the smarter fighter guys come where we ground strikers are hanging out and pay us a visit. It's a given on the 104th server, expect the enemy to shoot at you. Don't fly pre-planned autopilot courses to the target area. My case with the copter, use the terrain and down low to hide. Pretty hard to hide from an F-15 and a pilot that knows his stuff. A smart pilot will fly other planes, enemy side, to figure out where his opponents are going. Best course of action is to fly the sorties like real life war, get adequate air cover to protect you and your team mates. I know, most of the fighter-jock guys are not interested in this, dog fighting is all they want to do. I don't get shot down very often by the enemy jets in my copter. 104th is the best MP server in DCS!! It is what it is.

Added a few lines of code via Notepad++ as suggested (re: Message #145 and my #144) I was very careful copying the few lines of code as suggested. No more black screen. Works just fine SP and MP. I have no future intention to add Oculus Rift. Started getting partial-seizures couple years ago at age 62. Doctor said it was odd getting those this late in life as first time occurrences. I told him I'm a little bit frequent PC gamer. He said, "Oh, that's probably it." The new meds hold me fairly nicely as is. Not pushing my luck with this new contraption. I really don't want to quit DCS flight simming. Thanks

=============== 1.5.4 Open-Beta Update =============== If I go to Options\Controls to change aircraft, upon exiting I am greeted with a jet black screen that just is there to look at. I have to bring up Task Manager to close DCS. Instead of going into Options\Controls and direct to Multiplayer or the other SP choices, I am fine. It was working fine before the update as I usually am in the Open-Beta because the Snap Views function better there. (The Snap Views issues in 1.5 Stable and 2.0 was reported a few months ago, still do not work properly.) I used the Torrents process to load the update. Something get corrupted? I did a repair, got the same outcome. Can't go back, Restore did not function properly. Now, troubleshooting the Restore issue. Not complaining, just stating what's going on, on my end.

In multiplayer my modded Devrim English Su-27 cockpit was not allowed to fly with the server running. Integrity check was on. So, I guess the mods are out. Won't be flying MP as much if this will be the future.

Ka-50 at night with NVG (night vision goggles) is fine. Other aircraft should have access to NVG also. It's just a game. Can nit-pick about sim authenticity, but real life navigation at the airports don't exist, not fully functioning. Some real-life pilot guys were just talking about this. The realism is relative. Seems I remember seeing news clips photos Huey pilots during 'Nam wearing NVGs.

I have a green screen Mod for my Ka-50's Shkval that I have it titled, "Toby's Green Screen Mod" . A quick search I found this old thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=102334 Might give you some ideas. I am color blind I prefer the black & white default version. I don't know where I found it. I made it JSGME compatible. I have the file, probably could send it to you if interested. I think it is a .zip or .rar file. But it is for the Ka-50 copter.

+1 I am perfectly happy with the Shark just the way it is and still fly it quite often in MP, usually the 104th lately. I would like to see it used in more interesting combat scenarios with jet cover and have a simulated war atmosphere good guys vs. bad guys with a full server like the 104th playing to that end over several hours should be fun. In 2.0 lately the F99 guys play similar sorties with multiple mission goals. But I am usually flying and fighting by myself in 1.5 . I learned to fly freehand long time ago, I rarely use the autopilot. I use the kneeboard map to navigate with.

Looking for a Russian alphabet to English, letter by letter. Is it the .lua files where the instrument labels are found? Can I change them for myself as a dedicated change to English? Do I need some kind of utility(ies) or graphics tool to use to do this? A place to start; never have modded files. I have Devrim's mod English from Russian cockpit labeling for the Su-27. Would like to translate other Russian labeled cockpits. Where do the Mig-29S warnings labels reside? Any translated hard-copy cockpits references around anywhere? I have lots of free time, I'm retired. Thanks for any help.

I use Devrim's mods for the Ka-50. I have several. He makes easy to use mods and a good place to start to get a feel for modding DCS stuff. Also have Devrim's mods for other aircraft, the Su-27 English cockpit and his version of Ricardo's English blue cockpit for the Ka-50. I have other mods by others both JSGME friendly and not. There is a forum here just for mods. Some of those mods found there may not be in the DCS Users Files stash. The separate (JSGME) MODS sub-directory can be placed separately in the 1.5 Stable version, the 1.5 OpenBeta version and the separate 2.0 builds. Not to be confused with the Mods directory of each build. I modded heavily the older 1.2 build and is where I learned the "craft" . Usually get my stuff through the DCS Users Files stash. I'm not much of a groupie type, I do what I like, I see something interesting, I try it. In 1.2 I made a separate "Mod" directory just for modding, now 1.2.16 build and I still have it separate from 1.5 and 2.0 . I can play it still in Single Player. JSGME is really nice. Remember to move all your mods to the left column before doing an update patch so they do not get corrupted. My 1.2.16 stash I unlinked the updater file so I don't accidentally lose it if a "forced" update occurs or I forget not to take the suggested update. By all means, have fun!

Yes, you can learn a lot here by just reading forums, doing searches and asking questions. This is the only sim I play currently. Been here 5 years. I mess around a little bit with other sim aircraft offline but the majority of my time is here. Took me about a year to get fairly comfortable with the Ka-50. I still learn new stuff flying her. I use user 104th's Crunch's CH gear profile for the Ka-50. For CH gear, user Konkussion let me use his A-10C profile for the A-10C, I still use it. Have not flown the Warthog in quite awhile. Me, too, that was my 1st module back when it was sold as a boxed set. Well, the boxed set of LockOn Platinum was first, think it was then FC2.

I fly the copters. 99% of my DCS experience since 2011 is flying the Ka-50 in Multiplayer. And I have not been using my TrackIR 5 with ProClip, but I use the keyboard NumberPad views. Lately, been learning the Su-27 (FC3) and Su-33 and Mig-29S. I can start, takeoff, navigate, fly about and land no problem. But dogfighting >>> I am the worst! Need to learn how to use my TrackIR 5. I have 2 of Yeager's autobiographical books written a few years ago. His 2nd book, "Press On" gets into his hunting and fishing escapades. When he was at Edwards, for a week vacation, he and his flying buddies would go fishing in little known prime trout ponds in the High Sierras out there taking no more gear with them other than a basic survival kit and have fun living off the land. I used to go backpacking camping in the NY State Catskill Mountains and the High Peak area in the Adirondack Mountains, but I had a little better than just a basic survival kit. I admire the guy just for that reason.

I suggest flying with the F99th guys. They have quite a well thought out fighting server set up. FC3 Su-27 works great.
