  1. Was reading the Alienware Club forums. They tend to be kind of conservative as to modding their machines. I asked the question here specific to DCS just to see what you guys recommend, and maybe find guys here with similar equipment past or present. I hate jumping in blind, try to make informed decisions. Never have overclocked a CPU out of sheer terror of messing up. Guess I'll give it a try. Thanks.
  2. Was referring to my i7-2600 CPU. Sorry to mislead.
  3. Yeah, water cooled or whatever the liquid is. Thanks for the reply. I will experiment.
  4. Looking at MSI GTX 970 (4GB) but I think that may be pushing my motherboard's limits. Have 875 PSU. Intel i7-2600 cpu throttles up to 3.9 Need advice. -Edit- ==== Should have referenced this article at the get go : http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19661685 Thanks
  5. I need some practical advice. Looking for limits. I am a total noob at this. Getting stutters, sometimes not very playable in 2.0.1 The old DCS build 1.2.16 was great. Built a PC from scratch a few years ago, almost all parts were from NewEgg. But my current PC is a Dell Alienware Aurora-R3 purchased new in 2011. I've added this new card 2 or 3 years ago and extended RAM to 16GB. Going to add SDD and looking at MSI GTX 970 at some point in the future. Yeah, I realize in order to play DCSW decently a new build is in my future, sometime. I want to overclock my Asus GeForce GTX 680-DC2 Series (4GB) GDDR5 GPU . I have a tweaking utility titled: ASUS GPU Tweak that came with the card. Parameters that can be adjusted using sliders are: =============================== GPU Boost Clock (MHz) Min. GPU Voltage (mV) Memory Clock (MHz) Fan Speed (%) Power Target (%) Thanks for any help and/or advice.
  6. [ame] [/ame] I'm glad I am not like these guys...
  7. Well, it still works nicely in both 1.5.3 and 2.0.1 Thank you
  8. Is there a newer Isegrim Engines / Rotor sound mod since this? : October 2014 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=93588 Thanks for any help.
  9. I'll give it a try: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2340595&highlight=ADF+presets#post2340595 Chuck's Guide here: (do a L Control + f ; search for ADF) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-uSpZROuEd3U1VZWWNBam9ZdDg/view?pli=1 This post goes back to 2013, may not still apply, path may have changed http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1794329&highlight=ADF+presets#post1794329
  10. (Started this post with a question. Working it out, dropping and checking out links. The solution is the last link, below.) http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/249099/ or Updated (then) versions, here: ==================== http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1788804&highlight=true+blue+pit#post1788804 Ricardo's Blue Cockpit link under Ka-50 module with later fixes: ======================================== http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1698586&postcount=73 The paths have changed a little bit with 1.5 and 2.0 , wondering what the new path is? I will use JSGME instead of a direct mod. ~+~ Thanks to Devrim, just found your User Files' stash: ================================ http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/?arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&CREATED_BY=Devrim ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The latest Ka-50 Blue Cockpit Update, with the proper path and JSGME ready: ================================================= http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1766778/ Nice! Really nice! Thanks Devrim and RICARDO .
  11. Interesting. I'll give that a try. I really like the F99th's 2.0.1 current missions---much fun. I have TIR5 but I don't use it, hardly ever. It throws me, messes up my awareness. I have a 3D monitor that is really cool, that I also rarely never use because of the same reason, in-game. Watching a 3D movie is cool.
  12. I find hiding from the FC3, F-15's radar to be impossible unless, once spotted, and I survive the initial attack, I can get on the ground quickly and dead-stopped / no rotors rotation. Me being down low, flying feet off the ground, but no dust / wake cloud, in the ground clutter, I don't think the F-15 should be able to find me so easily. I think ED has the F-15's radar too simplistic and is my biggest gripe in Multiplayer. Thoughts? Criticism?
  13. (re: Message #67) Hi Snacko, Been flying the Shark since BS1 (July 2011) and 4 updated purchases later; never know, might learn something new. Never knew this utility existed... Thanks

  15. http://www.geforce.com/drivers I always create a restore point before doing any kind of component or software upgrade. Better safe than sorry to have a state to return to, takes less than 5 minutes. Saw this: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-driver-364-47-vulkan,31345.html
  16. Yep! And be prepared if you encounter the state where you just drop out of the sky (vortex ring state). I can stop dead in hover in less than 30 seconds from full speed. I pitch up steeply, drop the collective dramatically (pump it), and click the trimmer, in about 3 or 4 sets. I am usually in Flight Director. I do use AP back to the airfield (if it is still working) once out of harms way and I am down low.
  17. Thanks for this thread. My single GTX 680 (4GB ram) card for my dated Alienware desktop did not update to the latest 362.00 in GeForce Experience. I had to force the update manually, here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers I can run on the 2.0.1.50747 Alpha, no problem, now, and keep at 60 fps using the F99th's server. Granted, I do reduce some of the settings. Me, too, I mostly fly the copters using the Nevada map. I plan on updating my video card within the limitation of my motherboard. I have a SSD to install for DCS World and probably will get another one for my Win7 Pro.
  18. Is the latest update still a negative issue? How do I do a roll back? Do you have a link to the previous version? Thanks
  19. I rarely use a mission waypoint for very long as the pre-programmed path takes me right into immediate danger. I usually fly free-hand (not in autopilot) in Flight Director mode and ease my way into the combat zone on my own path. I do like using the automatic "r" route mode "Air Field" push button key to fly back to base if I am not too badly damaged and it still functions. I know, not the answer to your inquiry. Best advice---go find Cooper---he probably knows. He hangs out usually on Devilman's New Zealand based server, the old S77th squad. Currently there is a UK based copy of this MDS server : http://www.maddog-simulations.com/ On the Nevada map I frequent the F99th server in MP, I have seen Cooper there once in awhile, lately. I'm a bit of a loner type. Cooper is good company if you want some fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Going to experiment with your quoted procedure above. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ See Section 14 of Chuck's guide. You can download this to your PC: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=146581 Ever hear the analogy of a dimwitted guy being a couple beers short of a six-pack? Well, Chuck is the opposite of this; he sees stuff and presents it in a way so anybody can understand it, better.
  20. I used to fly my copter on his server, he always had interesting missions. Yeah, about his interesting gruff voice, gonna' miss that. He gave me the opinion he was a bright / smart guy. A lot of my buddies, my age bracket, Blooze's age, too, been dying off. Had a close call about a year ago. Got to pay attention to one's health and mind the doctors' advice. My Navy Seabee base was in Gulfport, MS on the Gulf coast. He lived upstate about midway. Interesting people there, great food. Sad to hear this. Jim Mudgett Jackson, Mississippi (Last selection, he is singing.) He toured with this guy according to post #1, this thread: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Luther+Allison Looking for an old video tape of him. Blooze is playing guitar on this recording: ========================== Mr. Brown Band 1973 and some photos : ========================== -+- Memorial Flight ==========
  21. Just joined with you guys last night on your OpenAlpha server. You guys have some interesting combat maps. I have not flown Ka-50 in quite awhile, need to relearn some stuff. I'll be stopping by more frequently with my copter. My FPS is running around 35 without TS3 turned on. I run better in the OpenAlpha when not so much ground stuff is present, but what fun is that, without it. Hope ED gets better frame rates. In 1.5.3 I'm a steady 60. GTX 680 with 4GB video ram on a 4 core i7-2600 at 3.9 Alienware rig about 4 years old, 16 GB 1600 RAM http://www.F99th.com/
  22. Chief1942, Never heard of Fraps before. Well, at least I can see my fps in real time and not need to use a magnifying glass. Thanks for the tip.
  23. (re: Message #4) That's what I think I need to do, too. I just need to know what file to alter. I'll give it a few days here, see what happens. If not, I'll send in a Support ticket to the developers off this page, (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/) . Thanks for the replies.
  24. Upper left corner of my monitor displays the Frame Rate Counter and Service Info RCtrl + Pause >>> On / Off How can I double the size of the lettering to read it better? Thanks in advance for any help.
