  1. YES there is. Actually 3 separate lights for 3 separate instruments! All Doppler Radar related. Message #7, above, is incorrect. Found this thread by doing a search for your same question I had. No other returned result referenced, just yours. Spent the last few days setting-up Mi-8 and learning. A SOB finding the solution to my and your question. Compared it to night ops in the 1.5 MP Buddyspike's Blue Flag server at the Beslan airport where the Mi-8 was already running, powered up and all lights were on, compared to a cold start, day time setup, same server. The lights are for the "Radar Altimeter" and also the "Hover and "Low Speed Control Indicator" for hovering >>> later identified as "Stationary Flight Indicator" (page 107) in the ED DCS Mi-8 Flight Manual. And the "ДИСС-15 (DISS-15) Doppler system ground speed and drift indicator" . Chuck's Guide for the Mi-8 : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-uSpZROuEd3NVJwVjhQZG0xZ2M/view See Chuck's Guide (page 20) Go to Copilot's seat (keypad 2) right side, overhead : RIGHT_TRIANGLE_PANEL : On / Off Switch for the 5.5 Volt Lights (Doppler SYS) - [in cockpit labels] See Chuck's Guide (page 30) = Doppler System & Yadro-1A radio control panel lighting switch (next to the Microphone Power Switch) Another switch also has to be rotated to maximum; it is located behind the Copilot's's seat to the lower right of the first-aid box on the bulkhead. See Chuck's Guide (pages 33, 37 and 100). My copy of DCS Mi-8 Flight Manual is 224 pages both Russian labeling and English text I obtained somewhere, but a Google search I cannot find a copy to reference it. Mine is found in Start/All Programs/Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/Documentation This listing is also found at C:/Program Data/Microsoft/Windows/Start Menu/Programs/Eagle Dynamics/DCS World/Documentation I think this is what I have. : https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1074349/ I find .pdf downloads doing Google searches and add stuff to my Start/All Programs Start menu for easy access when DCS does not include manuals in their early work. The DCS Mi-8 Flight manual (my copy) see page 49 (items 8 and 14), page 50 (item 12), and page 58 (item 2) as above.
  2. This is the only game / flight sim I play. I have tried other games and sims since 1985. ED is the best I have seen. It's a full time job with this hobby learning new stuff, modding it as to suggestions via the forums or Users' files, adding stuff others create and just keeping up. I did USA Navy and Navy Reserves from 1974 to 1989, one thing I learned there that has probably been handed down for over 200 years, probably dates waaaaay back when, is : "The troops ain't happy unless they are complaining!" I know the Navy did the best they could to always keep us happy AND keep us on our toes ready for anything. Seems this motto serves nicely in most instances to most avenues in the civilian world, too.
  3. I can safely get kills using Vikhrs at 8K out without enemy ground vehicles getting me; don't get in too close. Use the terrain to hide in.
  4. I use the F10 map, the additional Kneeboard thingy. Ka-50 has a moving map in its ABRIS as long as it does not get damaged. On the Blue Flag server my ABRIS map shows enemy positions in small blue circles. I just setup the Mi-8 yesterday to do supply runs and don't see an internal map, yet---still learning. Been learning Mig-21 for about a week, still a work-in-progress. Have not flown the Warthog in a long time, I think it too has an internal map.
  5. I have CA also. I will check this out further. I have not noticed being allowed to see enemy movements on the F10 map as forward observer. Do these guys take up JTAC roles? Too bad they don't have a Tactical Commander role or two offered. Fun hopping into GV's and killing stuff or have strategic goals moving stuff around into enemy areas. Thanks. ======= Later Edit: ======= OK, played with CA tonight and once the enemy aircraft get within Red's radar detection zones, sometimes they become visable, but not consistently. Left this same message following to the Buddyspike Forums concerning this same topic. : "I found this video to YouTube where a Mirage was acting as an AWAC with 3 other Su-27s. This is what I think I was listening to on TS3 a few days ago, something like this. I have Combined Arms and the F10 map as a Forward Observer position is not giving consistent, timely radar returns in a very accurate means of accomplishing the task necessary to be useful." Play all of the video.
  6. Go to the 2.0 Alpha server and play on the F99's server. Afterwards, playing on 1.5 is not so bad... LOL!
  7. Relatively new playing this server. I notice some guys are being AWAC operatives giving situational, real-time info to the same side pilots. How is this achieved playing this role?
  8. Play on the 104th Phoenix's MP server; they don't tolerate nonsense.
  9. I noticed this, too.
  10. The last 2 days been learning about and setting up the DCS-Simple Radio to play in game in Multplayer on the Buddyspike Blue Flag server. It works OK on my PC's internal server; I can hear myself talking through my microphone, listening either by speakers or headphones. His radio does not appear to be working in practice mode today on the MP server. When I connect I see other guys connected too on SR; but guys are communicating using TS3. Guess I will see how it goes in Blue Flag #10, hope SR will be functioning OK, then. Bet everybody else has already done this! I always seem to be the last guy to come to the party... https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=169387&highlight=Channel
  11. Found the answer : Ka-50 Flight Manual, page 6-74, item 4 (This procedure also works for the Mi-8 helicopter, it uses the same radio.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 6-48: R-828 control panel The R-828 control panel has the following functions: 1. Selected channel ID. The active radio channel selected via the channel selector wheel is displayed in this window. This can display 1 through 10. 2. “КАНАЛ” (Channel) selector. This red wheel can be rotated using left [RALT + RCTRL + M] and right [RALT + RCTRL + N] mouse clicks or keyboard input. The wheel cycles channels 1 through 10. 3. “ГРОМК” (Volume) radio volume control. Rotating this knob left [LCTRL + LSHIFT + ]] and right [LCTRL + LSHIFT + [] adjusts the volume level of audio received over the R-828 radio. 4. “АСУ” (Automatic tuner) button. After you have selected a channel, you will need to press the tuner button to tune the radio to the selected channel. Every time you select a new channel, you will need to press this button. [RCTRL + RSHIFT + T] 5. “НАСТР” (Tuner) automatic tuner indicator lamp. If the R-828 is under power and the automatic tuner button is pressed, this will light if the radio has not been tuned to the selected channel. 6. “ПШ” (Noise reduction system) switch (squelch). [RALT + RCTRL + R] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DIGITAL COMBAT SIMULATOR Ka-50 BLACK SHARK 2 Page # 6–75 Once the required channel is set and you have pressed the “АСУ” button, the system will tune to the selected channel’s frequency and the tuner indicator lamp will be lit. Once the tuning is complete, the lamp will turn off. Also, referenced here, Message #993 : ======================== https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2929319&highlight=Channel#post2929319
  12. I set the R-828 Radio to Channel 5 in the Ka-50; right-side rear console. On the Buddyspike Blue Flag server, Channel 5 is supposed to be 30 MHz FM, I am getting a frequency of 21.500 MHz FM . https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LYS-K2EBGBZ1RjD0UGUdOkAXJBGw3mmRQZ2cSsdbJao/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=343063148 What's going on? Please explain. Are the frequencies changeable in a .lua file somewhere? Something I have to change on my end? Thanks for any help.
  13. I use Flight Director switch on quite often, actually most of the time. Only downfall for me is rudder is manual feet input. in Multiplayer, on a combat server, most likely the enemy guys, the smart ones, they already know the pre-planned canned mission. I try not to fly predictable if I want to last very long! Thanks for this thread, just bookmarked it.
  14. Nice thing about the copters, are, I can land anywhere, except on the water; turn off the engine, and as long as I don't get disconnected by a timeout or power failure, leave my PC on, I can come back to the game later. Most MP missions do have a maximum time limit, though, then they reset their server, is the only downfall with that tactic.
  15. Another reason to drink beer! I doubt very much I will make 105 in 40 years---I won't be here. And wife and I did our part, we don't have kids. LOL! That is the answer to your issue here, quit having children. Problem solved!
  16. (re: second paragraph) : +1 As to Message #1, "frequent sales" : I think it is a cash flow situation and what better way to bring in some quick cash than offer some good deals. I like MP that's where I hang out, either version makes me happy.
  17. You guys do know about converting track files in Saved Games to mission files? I take Multiplayer sessions and convert to play by myself in Single Player mission setups. I just took a .trk file in Users/username/Saved Games/DCS.openalpha/Tracks/Multiplayer , from one of the F99th's missions, "Battle of Moapa" from April 2016 in the 2.0 Alpha. I renamed the .trk suffix to .miz and placed the new .miz file as the aforementioned path, same path, but paste it in DCS.openalpha/Missions I play it in Mission / My Missions (right column of the opening gaming screen). It can also be played and modded in the Mission Editor. Whatever aircraft that are offered in the mission file, the ones you paid for, you can fly or drive (tanks, etc.---Combined Arms), and usually can choose Red side or Blue side. 2.0 is still in Alpha; I am surprised this even works. Mission designers get a little bit peeved. But I just replay it by myself just for myself and fight the AI. Takes a little-bit head scratching to figure it out. I learned how to do this probably in the 1.2 version. There is a tutorial somewhere in the archive. I have not done this procedure in quite awhile, and I think the Alpha's path is done differently. -+- But maybe that's not the same thing you guys are requesting.
  18. Yep, I am in, now, too! I just turned age 65. Happy Birthday to me. Wife doesn't know, yet---she just got me my birthday present! ;^) https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=175971
  19. I have most of the aircraft inventory. What is the process transferring my current fleet of aircraft to the new machine? I just need some links to see the how-to-do-it process and save me some headaches. Thanks
  20. Not sure if this video should be here or in Chit-Chat, the Moderator can decide. Watch the video all the way through: Found this on my YouTube travels, I love YouTube more than TV, nothing worth watching on TV anymore. That WWII pilot said every pilot should fly a Spitfire at least once in his life. I'll get it as soon as DCS offers it.
  21. (re: My Message #1) Found the culprit: ============ NVIDIA GeForce Experience SHARE In Settings, set the slider to the left = Off I think this also may be causing stutter and freeze-up troubles in 2.0 Alpha on the F99th's server when the slider is set to the right = On. With it on, my video card failed the Alienware SupportAssist self-test. With it off, it passes.
  22. Concerning the opening Main Menu screen in Multiplayer in 1.5 and 2.0 there are two fairly new icons overlapping the current game Version number, located lower right corner. One icon is a microphone, the other a circle thingy similar to a reload circle. What are these for? They are not clickable. I am wondering if these icons are from non-DCS sources: TIR5 or my microphone program?
  23. Long Island Republic Airport Historical Society I called my local public library, asked a reference librarian inquiring about the former Republic Aviation on Long Island, New York . She gave me a phone number. I called it. Waiting for a reply. If there is positive info, I will pass it along. Found this: Long Island Republic Airport Historical Society ============================== https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=Long+Island+Republic+Airport+Historical+Society The following from the above listing: Wikipedia ======= https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_Airport https://sites.google.com/site/lirepublicairporths/ https://sites.google.com/site/lirepublicairporths/new2 There is more in the listing, just do the leg work researching what you are looking for. Had he be living still, he'd be 93. I doubt any of the old P-47 engineers are still alive. Maybe there are videos discussing their adventures in creating this thing. Must be WWII era films via a la the USA Army somewhere. Hollywood vaults?
