  1. Haha glad you guys had fun, Gav. Tell your friend we apologize for not having a valet stand were an attendant can bring his ship around for him. Completely uncivilized!:rotflmao:Did he mention the lack of seat warmers?
  2. Feel free to use this thread to help sort out when most people are free to fly. This has been the subject of many conversations. Right now it's pretty much hit or miss with people joining from all over the planet. We, as a squad, are working on hosting weekly events so we can establish a regular meet time and allow everyone to predict the optimal time to find a good MP battle.
  3. That was a lot of fun, guys! Thanks for flying on the server with us. We are still tweaking the server performance but everything has come a long day from when we first started. Also thanks for the feedback xcom. I am not sure why the captured airbase did not repair... it has for me in the past. Will check it next time we fly that mission. And to give you guys an idea of the bandwidth performance for our server... of course geography plays a role too.
  4. ...says the guy with the Mustang avatar :) Looking forward to it!
  5. Thank you for the offer, Taffy. Your help has always been appreciated. I had taken the TS server down on the existing machine to test some new hardware. :) Hope to see you flying on the server soon!
  6. Dogs of War Server It's up right now :) I hope... We'd be happy to have you guys come fly with us, xcom.
  7. server maintenance = Combat Server Upgrades. More info to come...
  8. No need for WEP when fighting the AI. Every fight you enter should not be an emergency.
  9. Yes DoOom, It's the rusty old van parked down by the river. You'll notice an ethernet cable hanging out of the window. :) Great to hear that you guys are enjoying your time flying with us. I agree the missions that our guys are building have been quite awesome. Keep giving feedback, with the good and the bad. I know they love hearing what you guys think. Sorry about the server downtime. We all try to keep an eye on it but of course it does crash from time to time when no one is watching. (I'd like to blame DCS for the crashes but I'm just thankful that it is much more stable than certain points in the past) I'm currently working on assembling a more robust hardware solution to handle the busiest parts of the day, which seem to bog the server machine down a bit, but we are not there yet. And to re-iterate the point above, any donations you guys can swing will be put to good use.
  10. My pleasure ;) Thanks again for coming by!
  11. Damn I missed it! I'd like to believe it actually happened.
  12. In reference to this topic: We are working to find a happy medium. While we strive for realism on most of our missions we have to adapt the full-time missions at times to keep it an enjoyable experience for the majority of visitors. I am a fan of airfield scramble scenarios, but repeatedly getting shot up the second you enter an aircraft is not sporting in any way. If anyone thinks it's realistic to keep jumping in an aircraft and continue to attempt a takeoff with aircraft strafing the field... Well, I think you have watched too many action movies. Along with this, plenty of documented accounts from WWII prove that in most cases attacking aircraft had a single chance to strafe an airfield before running for home trying to avoid AA. Loitering above an enemy airfield during daylight was a deathwish and most definitely not a realistic tactic. We have tried and will continue to try to find the best balance of these elements to keep it a fun place to spend your time.
  13. Thank you, sir. Glad to have you join the fun. And regarding the pilot tactics and such, I really have no problem letting people fly the way they want to. We welcome pilots of all experience levels and playing styles. If someone wants to fly around practicing or getting to know the map... go for it. It is primarily a combat server so hang out long enough and you are bound to find the fight you were looking for. We just ask that you conduct yourself in a reasonable manner while flying on the server and abide by any posted guidlines. Oh, and don't forget to read the briefings! Our guys spend a lot of time crafting these missions. Take a second to read the provided information.
  14. Have you flown the DCS Mustang for over a year? And you have seen no improvement spotting? I agreed with you that it is not ideal, but it is not as bad as many make it out to be. Seems like some people need to see an aircraft immediately... that is contrary to the reality of the situation. Being "not new" to WW2 dogfighting unfortunately does not have much bearing on spotting an enemy aircraft in DCS.
  15. To clarify, I think this is mostly apparent during Multiplayer sessions. Are you not seeing studders/FPS drop in MP? I still think it's the number of objects being tracked (EVERY shell casing & every projectile) that bogs down the server. My poor DoW rig has to keep track of all this and send it out near real time to every connected client. Crazy when you think about it. Pretty much like tracking 300 aircraft when someone fires. I don't think too many people would complain about loosing the brass if it improved gameplay.
  16. Yes agreed. Although, it has saved my butt a few times... I should not hear an enemy aircraft pull onto my 6.
  17. It is definitely a "challenge" in DCS and much different than most prior sims. The good news is that it will improve some as you log more hours. I promise you will look back at the use of labels and laugh. It does help if the servers are populated properly, hopefully that will improve as well.
  18. Yes, you are right about that. Luckily, for the turn fighters out there, the majority of people flying are not flying in groups yet. It takes some serious discipline to hold true to the BnZ but it's obvious why it became the preferred tactic. I was a little concerned about this match-up, but I think the Mustang will hold up ok. If only people would free up P-51 spots on my server so I could actually fly her again. :music_whistling: There better not be any scratches on my precious J-Devil or I will be so mad.
  19. How dare you speak those words! :) We are trying to figure out ways to resolve this without reverting to Mustang vs. Mustang fights. Hang in there!
  20. The interesting thing to factor in is that most pilots have much more familiarity with the Mustang at this point and it's turning advantage is no minor detail. With a decent pilot, the P-51D is a suitable match as most online dogfights tend to devolve to low turning fights, from my experience.
  21. Good to see you, xcom. Looks like you guys had fun :)
  22. According to the teamviewer app on my phone it is up and populated. :music_whistling: If only I could fly using the touchscreen.
  23. I heard you made a silent appearance, Sith. This confirms it :) Look forward to your arrival... and your discovery of those 6 extra hours. I need them too!
  24. Please realize the MP missions are a WIP at this point. Finding a good balance a few days after the introduction of an aircraft is no easy task. To back up what David said, the flak tracks both coalitions, depending on where you fly. The fact that you are at a situational disadvantage in enemy territory shouldn't be a huge surprise. I'd imagine flying lone-wolf into enemy airspace wouldn't be too profitable in WWII either. Now, of course we want everyone to enjoy themselves on the DoW server but it will take time to find that sweet spot in terms of balance. As far as typical red-side tactics on the server thus far, well it's hard to say there even is a "typical" anything at this point. You really can't expect too much from pilots of a plane that they have very little flight hours in. We have plenty of capable pilots who own the FW190 and if you continue to visit the server I'm sure you will encounter them. While flying on the server this weekend, I saw a continuous stream of blue base attacks which offered very little hope of a red side offensive effort. This situation, while allowed, makes things a bit difficult. I was continually tasked with defending our airspace and rarely had a chance to venture out. Like David said, we are discussing this internally to find a good solution and keep the hoards of P-51D pilots happy while also giving Dora pilots a chance to gain valuable MP flying time.
  25. Fair enough... and we do enjoy the results of all your hard work. BUT I can't jump in it and personally deal out some well-deserved retribution! :gun_smilie: Seriously though, I have always wanted to tie in the CA side of things and some of my older missions used this to create some fun scenarios. Hopefully we will see something of the sort with the WWII release.
