Man, the first AAR and I had about the most disappointing sortie performance possible. We are all en-route to the target chit-chatting like we are on vacation and then BOOM we get bounced by a gang of robo-luftwaffe. So Balto calls "Bandits 6 o clock!" DoOom engages in short order and me in my ultimate wisdom forget I'm carrying drop tanks. As I flounder about trying to get eyes on the enemy the first hits disintegrate my prop gov and then... well it's time to find a flat place to land. They will not catch me napping again! It just goes to show you that you need to be combat ready in a split second. It really was a hell of a great time, guys and I'm looking forward to those regular missions. EDIT: By the way, dooom, that was a great write-up. You sure set the bar high for every mission from here forward! :D

anything that can be done, to prevent cheaters joining a server?
Merlin-27 replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in Multiplayer
Sorry to join this discussion late... We have been trying to gather some more info before deciding which approach to take on this issue. The guy has claimed many things but none are known to be truths besides the fact that he is exploiting certain elements of the sim, specifically in MP. "Banning" him has had limited results and since he is a member of these forums we would like to resolve this issue as opposed to going to war with him. I think what worries me the most is the big picture issue here. Trying to permanently ban or punish one guy will not resolve this vulnerability. I am assuming this is a known issue from EDs perspective as we have already witnessed it occurring twice now where someone has repeatedly defeated attempts to ban based on IP & UCID. And in the most recent situation, elements of the flight model are also suspected of being altered. Lines of communication between server admins are open again. Now hopefully we can initiate an action on the dev side to determine the scope of the problem. -
That's pretty amazing, Whip. Thanks for sharing.

That stuff can happen so quickly while multitasking and by the time they realized it and tried to react... Damage is done. Really sucks that none were able to bail out. The dangers of tight formation.

please make the "auto rudder" a server set option
Merlin-27 replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in DCS Wishlist
Staying away from these forums has done wonders for my sanity. But, I totally agree with David. It should be to the server admin's discretion whether auto-rudder is enabled and enforced. We've seen plenty of situations to support this change and it would help us avoid password protecting our combat server which is frequented by many non-squad DCS pilots. -
P-51D Online Practice Hey Tracer, no need to apologize. You are welcome to fly on the server no matter what aspect you'd like to focus on. If you want to avoid combat just try to stay away from the river. AI and human fliers tend to gather there. We have plenty of people formation flying and refining their skills near the airfields and surrounding areas. Welcome to the fun! And if you do hear the squad briefing a mission feel free to introduce yourself. We always welcome people to fly along.

Charly, did you ever get connected? TS has remained up and running. DoW is the pw.

Gav, I respect your flying ability. We have flown together many times in the past. But, are you saying with preparation and energy you can't climb with the AI 190? I find that hard to believe. EDIT: Yes at low speeds, the 190 can pull away quickly. But the answer to that is to try to stay well above 120mph. As my friend HotTom said, keep it above 250 when you can. The Merlin hates to be that slow with combat settings.(there is really no need to fly slow against the AI as they never get stuck in slow evasive turns like most humans) And if that is the end of your climb and he is extending then it was not set up correctly and you can just find another target. In the beginning we all had trouble with the AI. But, I am being perfectly honest, over time and with lots of practice I have no problem reaching the top of the climb against the AI Dora and sometimes even exceeding his climb. And many do it better than I. I'm just stating results. I'm not speculating. To clarify my position, I'm only saying it is not impossible or even very difficult to shoot down the DCS AI FW190. I think it is a disservice to tell people you can not out perform them with practice. If you want to argue that the SFM is not accurate and that we should never be able to shoot them down then go for it. But the fact is that DCS AI 190s are shot down by the dozen every day by human pilots flying the P-51D ...and from what I've seen it is mostly during a climb.

You can stay with the Dora in EVERY maneuver, don't be fooled. The trick is to begin the chase with at least the same energy state and keep your movements smooth. No need for WEP fighting the AI. Taking pot shots here and there will not get a good kill. Close to a comfortable range and wait for the right moment... then send a storm of lead his way. Also, multiple concentrated hits on the cockpit, engine or wings will finish him much quicker than hits from dead astern into the tail.

106... 107... 108... 108 and a half...
Merlin-27 replied to luthier1's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
There are no markings on the AI 190 tail and it hasn't bothered me at all. I agree that no markings are better than incorrect ones. -
If you build a mission for the P-51D and have slots for it, will people be able to fly from those spots with just the free TF version? Just curious.

This is just begging to be "adapted for use" Maybe we will get the Fortress someday... http://bit.ly/1gCSHmE

You mean THIS mission? :D The General, however had a much worse morning. :smilewink: Operation Vengeance. Awesome mission, Dooom!

Thanks for coming by, Chuck. I was glad to see you guys flying on the server.

Westland Lysander - Anyone else want one?

Nice. I did something similar a few weeks ago. Three of us were chasing a fleeing red AI who was approaching Nalchik. After exhausting my ammo I had the silly idea to fly below him and interfere with his extended gear. Somehow I got him to lose control and crash... At the cost of my entire rudder. I flew all the way back to Beslan with no problem and landed. I'll add the video I took when I get home.

I am still very curious about this topic. Prior to the release of DCS:WWII it would be nice to have a proper P-51D model that would be flying over Normandy in '44. I don't believe too many had the twin antenna AN/ARA-8 or the HF radio antenna wire from the canopy to the tail. I know there has been an expressed reluctance to touch the P-51, but it is not quite right for the ETO. The rear-view mirror is another item of interest. Yo-Yo, Wags or Luthier: Do you have anything you can say about future plans to address this?

Merlin-27 replied to El Hadji's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Gav, don't rain on everyone's dreams! :) We would just need a bunch of 3rd parties to step up. Maybe sell them in a package to get a decent price. Also, you need to try Doooms Mustang dawn mission. Night/low-light sorties can be very cool. Definitely a different experience combat-wise. A mosquito would fit perfectly. I'd definitely pay for a bunch of these a/c... But of course it's a very small target audience and definitely not a big money maker for RRG. -
Man, great job. The first one looks really close! EDIT: Even the custom arm patch for the 100th FS

Agreed. This is where a better solution for the use of custom skins would be VERY helpful. -
Lookin good! Hope we can clear up the last bits of the mystery. A tribute to the legacy of some great men. Beer is a glorious currency. You can bring it to 1st annual DoW squadron BBQ. (Once we solve the obvious logistical complications)

Like I said in my post, that is the biggest challenge right now. It has been hit or miss as to when most people fly. I have had a busy few weeks and have flown a little less lately. The weekends, especially, mid-day Sunday have been the busiest. We have had plenty of days with 15+ human fliers on all day... But it is constantly changing. Keep an eye out and usually if I go on and fly for a couple hours I will see an average of 4-5 people join on most days.

How about a C-47? Flying paratroopers over Normandy to the jump zone. Sounds pretty awesome to me.

Thanks for the recommendation and I'm happy to hear that you have enjoyed the server. I believe that is what Charly was talking about when he said Merlin's server. I changed the name after we created the DoW squadron. And in reference to what you were asking Charly: I built the server with the intention of catering to many interests. We have a group of fairly regular P-51D pilots in the organization and at this point we really are just focusing on flying together, no matter the scenario. Sometimes it's PvP dueling, sometimes it's elaborate co-op missions (Do0oM is the mastermind behind most of those) and other times we just host practice sessions to work on specific skills or disciplines. I would hate for it to be advertised as a one-dimensional shooting gallery where you feel like you are completely on your own. As we all know that can be an intimidating and unappealing environment. However, our biggest challenge as of yet is to populate the server with enough quality pilots at one time to warrant co-op missions considering the vast time-zone differences with our members. Typically I leave the server running one of our well-liked and versatile missions (such as River Raiders) and if people join they can choose what type of flying they want to do. There is usually a mission brief with specifics on mission goals, ground targets, aerial threats and the general theme. You are free to communicate with other players via TS or chat and let them know if you do not want to participate in PvP combat, if you wish to practice near and airfield and such. (Most friendly airfields have ample defenses anyways) If you find that someone on the server is acting out-of-line just bring it to the attention of any DoW members on the server or PM me here and we will work to remedy any issues. I see you're from Montreal. As you can see, I'm on the east coast of the US and as a reference I fly mostly during the day on weekends and sometimes co-op missions during the night with some of our guys in the western part of the US, Canada and Mr. Yob from Australia. Hope to see you flying!
