I do prefer constructive discussion, no matter how frustrating this has been. So here's my question of the day... Is there a status on the "Black out" that prevented all development images? This was straight from the source in the Feb 21st update... "Perhaps, the best solution is to keep these for now, then do a non-Friday update early next week once the bug is fixed, where we can show what the bug looked like, and what it looks like with the bug fixed and the cockpit systems working." Since that "early next week" was a week ago are things still in the dark ages?

The biggest advantage the AI has is that it NEVER harms it's own aircraft. (except for an occasional collision) This leads people to believe that you have to fly "perfectly". That is not the case... or I would not get any kills :D 1st Rule: Don't let them stay behind you for any length of time. Rolling Scissors work brilliantly to remove them. 2nd Rule: Anticipate the zoom climb. Following with energy in a climb is the easiest kill vs. the FW190 AI. 3rd Rule: Avoid head on gun passes.The AI is a superior marksman. You may be successful a few times but the odds are against you (Especially when those cannon shells hit you) The DCS AI Dora is not much faster if any. We catch them and outrun them daily in the Mustang on the deck. In addition, I out climb the AI FW190 all the time in the P-51D. If you engage with less energy you will get predictable results. Just not true. Let's not spread these views as fact when they are disproved all day long. Of course, it may be easier for you to manage your energy by keeping him low but you have also made yourself an easy target for any other bandits and have exhausted most of your E. A turning fight on the deck should be your last resort. With some practice you can fight the AI 190 in the vertical with no problem...when the odds are 2 or 3 to 1 it gets a bit more complicated.

I'm pretty sure, as things are now, you'd have a variety of options on where in the process you begin your flight. If not, those B17 escort flights with the P-51D are going to be brutal. I will have to do some serious flight planning to pull off a 6 hour sim flight. :D Also, after a particular engine is modeled you would hope a big chunk of development time would be reduced. The heart and soul of the P-47, the R-2800, is also shared with the Corsair and Hellcat. Just Sayin.

You know I love the idea. Give me a Hellcat! As much as I love the Stang, WWII carrier ops sound pretty damn awesome.

You are too kind, my friend. I've seen you tear up plenty of enemy aircraft. I personally prefer using the K14 gyro. If anything, it makes you aware of the forces acting on the aircraft (and bullets) at that moment and can save valuable ammo. Adjusting for range can sometimes be tricky and if not used properly the gyro can actually fool you into using the wrong amount of lead However, when set correctly it can produce some devastating high deflection and inverted shots that would be much harder without it. Following your tracers is just wasteful in my opinion and can turn an easy kill into a drawn out chase when fighting a human pilot. (Also draws attention to you in a skirmish) In the end it just comes down to what you're comfortable with.

My only advice would be: Keep Flying. You'll notice the bullets start to hit harder and the landings become smoother. There is a pretty decent learning curve but all the more rewarding in the end. If you hit an AI with a good concentration of fire it takes only second to destroy it. And if you land at the proper speed and angle the bounce can be eliminated. -

That's all good but if you are looking for persons knowledgeable on WWII aircraft you think you'd look in the WWII section. Not to mention the fact that he has not posted in his own forum section for more than 3 months. February is almost gone, are we going to hear more excuses? ...or more silence. -
Also if the heated glass is accidentally left on/switched on it can crack the windscreen. Happens from time to time on "modern" aircraft.

Have you flown the DCS Mustang? I've only started it about 300+ times like that.... so maybe it was a fluke. Of course, I know the this is not proper procedure for the actual P-51. But it is not the only thing that does not follow reality.

She want's you to stop using auto-start! Couldn't resist.:) My first thought would be to make sure throttle is full back. Next would be to check the weather conditions.

If it's realistic... I want it. But I hope we can sort out the gunfire lag before thousands of new objects are added to the mix. Tracking every bird could get a bit processor intensive. :D

I've read about this happening several times but can't remember which book or the pages. I did a little search and found this one account from one of the more famous P-51s... Cpt Bill Whisner (P-51) Canopy Oil Pretty cool story as well.

I'm pretty sure this was an operational wartime configuration in the Pacific. The AN/ARA-8 "uncle dog" homing radar is the device that used the twin wooden vertical antennas on the rear fuselage. The AN/APS-13 rear warning radar has the antenna fixed on the vertical tail surface. This was first used by the British and named "monica" At some point the Luftwaffe countered it and devised an airborne receiver to "home in on" allied aircraft using the rear warning radar. That may be the cause of the reluctancy to use it later in the war. Interesting factoid: 4 modified AN/APS-13s were used to air-detonate the first atomic bomb over Japan.

Why would it be randomized if you pointed out there is a direct cause? I would hope the visual effects would match the condition. Also, I have seen the wingtip vortices effect on the DCS P-51D on several occasions.

In the book Mustang Ace by Bob Goebel, Jim Books is mentioned many times. If anyone is looking for another good book about WWII combat pilots, check it out.

Must be a Thunderbolt thing :) I think she's beautiful... in a hot rod kind of way. Most pilots didn't like the way the p-47 looked at first. Then they fell in love when they realized its capabilities and the ability to bring them home alive.
