  1. Yes! It was good fun, Yob. The server crashed earlier today but is back up now.
  2. Roger. We're up again. Thanks.
  3. Appears that the "Master" is in a persistent Tango Uniform condition. Standing by...
  4. Currently seeing the "Can't Connect to Master" message again on the server and clients. Others reporting the same. EDIT: Along with WC I am still on 1.2.6
  5. Glad you are having more success. My server is in New Jersey. Spawn killing/ vulching is typically frowned upon. The AI however, has no mercy. Please try again and let me know if there is a consistent problem. I will remedy any abuse. :)
  6. Mark, My advice would be to do a little searching for threads that focus on defeating the AI. You are right about them being very energy efficient and their ridiculous marksmanship...however, they can be beat with some practice. You always need to be aware of your energy state when you engage. If you have an altitude/speed disadvantage do not follow the AI in a climb. You will at the very least hurt your engine trying to keep up and they won't break off a climb early like a human might. There isn't much you can do about the superior gunnery. Avoid a direct head to head flyby and do your very best to not let them on your 6. Also feel free to come by the [DoW] Combat Server. Part of the time I run a mission on there with a bunch of AI included. You can witness other human pilots destroying the AI aircraft and maybe pick up some other helpful pointers. Many of us have a bunch of hours in the P-51D and were once as frustrated as you with the challenging AI pilots. Practice practice practice.
  7. Thanks for the offers guys! Much appreciated. I went ahead and set up my own TS3 server to get us voice comms again. Feel free to use it whenever you fly on my server. Same rules apply, just keep it friendly. Server address: 100.1.179.22:9987 Password: DoW
  8. On that note, has anyone ever resolved an issue in the P-51D by hitting the circuit breaker reset panel? Just curious. I assigned a button on my USB switch panel but I have not found a scenario to use it.
  9. Sorry for any confusion, I definitely wasn't giving an opinion about curves. I still feel that practice is the best "fix".
  10. I think this is where practice becomes the ultimate fix. The responsiveness is great but that in turn makes the dreaded high speed stall very easy to trigger. We lack the "feel" of those control surfaces and pilots are blind to what forces the aircraft is working against. This discussion made me re-read one of my favorite write-ups... Flying the P-51
  11. Very cool.
  12. Roger. Get back in the air, man! :D I'll show you laminar flow! Seriously though, I hope the FFB gets fixed. We can't afford to push good pilots away from this sim.
  13. Just asking how to host a mission on your local PC? If so it's pretty easy. To host: -Open DCS World Multiplayer -Log in -Choose OPTIONS and make sure LAN is selected -Choose NEW SERVER -Make sure PUBLIC SERVER is checked -Select desired mission and press START EDIT: Feel free to check out my server also. Just make people aware in chat if you don't want to dogfight. If you fly away from the combat area you won't encounter any enemies.
  14. I've done plenty of reading on near laminar flow airfoil design. How does that change ANYTHING I stated? The Mustang remains highly maneuverable. To say otherwise is asinine. I actually agreed with you, but the fact that stall warning is less than ideal doesn't make is a "bad" design as you are implying. So in your experience they don't usually cite the P-51D as an escort fighter? Quite odd. Obviously you're not paying attention. Where was "most maneuverable" stated? Not by me. And you missed my point by a NAUTICAL MILE. How many times are you going to post this same video?
  15. The casual flight simmer flies the DCS: P-51D? Well, he won't be casual for long. Are you saying the Mustang is NOT "highly maneuverable"? Can you definitively dispute claims that it was the best "all-around" fighter? Do you think the WWII P-51 pilots themselves were fueling this "propaganda" with their many many testimonials? Of course you will hear more pro-american claims from American sources. And as you know you will see pro-spitfire claims from British sources etc. etc. etc. It would be pretty odd to go to an airshow in America and hear the announcer claim Nazi aircraft were superior and the Mustang stalls too easy. I've always viewed the heated WW2 fighter disputes as futile since every aircraft had different uses, aircrews, resources and so on but to say the Mustang doesn't deserve the accolades is pretty silly. Since I was a little boy reading every aviation book I could find, I knew the P-51 Mustang was a challenging aircraft to fly and it makes mastering her that much more enjoyable.:joystick:
  16. I think the reason for that is the challenge of determining "when" a human player spots anything. At least implementing a minimal radius would be nice so there is a reasonable perimeter where you would expect units to be spotted. At least for the P-51, fog of war can be very useful.
  17. Very nice. Great detail.
  18. Not quite sure. We will try to find an alternative.
  19. Gotta love when a person rants and then declares the conversation over. If you create a poll I think you should be prepared to accept the results even if they don't agree with your thoughts. Bolding your sentences does not make the argument any more valid. Helpful hint: Check the runway before you park on it.
  20. The only frustrated person seems to be you :) My opinion was just that I don't think it's a necessity that needs to be implemented in the sim. I never said it's not possible to hang your head out of the aircraft.
  21. You try to cross the threshold at 120... so, that is when you are wanting to open the canopy? Nice way to wreck your aircraft. And are you saying your 120mph bi-plane has no windscreen? Who's sticking their head out of the plane while landing? Seems pretty obsurd to me. I don't need to try FSX. I have no problem taxiing.
  22. You already can open the canopy in flight. Are you saying you want to stick your head out of the airplane going 150+mph? I think it's fine like it is. I've never had any problem taxiing with the view we have.
  23. Haha True, although I have seen some pretty wacky stuff occur when a human pilot sees you on his six. :) The AI is very good in my opinion but ultimately quite predictable. After a while you know what mistakes you can get away with and what ones will get you shot. It's not so straight forward with the organic variety opponent.
  24. I think most pilots naturally prefer the turn fight in DCS since it's comforting to get the enemy ahead of you and keep him there. It's very easy to lose visual during a fight and we know how costly that can be. Another reason for this tactic is the fact that it is very difficult to destroy an AI aircraft with a high deflection shot. (However they can take you out with a single BB) It usually takes a few tries to kill the AI if not saddled. The easiest way to disable AI is to pour a lot of concentrated rounds on the aircraft. (This can still be done energy fighting, as long as the adversary cooperates ie a long climb) Where slow turn fighting really becomes troublesome is when you are faced with multiple bandits. It WILL get you killed if you don't get that energy back. The AI may be poor at countering slow turns but humans will find a way, especially if they are working together.
