  1. Of course, I agree with you, Yo-Yo and I hope I have never presented myself as one who would like the sim to become "easier." Quite honestly, I believe the challenge of flying the aircraft defines who we are as DCS pilots. We laugh at the idea of flying anything less. Thank you for your responses to all of this. I think you guys got the most important parts of the flight model spot-on and I think you can take pride in saying that you have given the Mustang it's soul. After flying her for over a year I can say she definitely has a personality and it is in line with her reputation. With the introduction and maturing of the new engine I hope to see some more polishing down the road that will keep us flying her for a long time to come.
  2. Eno, This is one specific "person" and we've communicated about it before. Remember, I created a thread because the offender is also an imposter...and my thread was deleted by the mods because I said who he was impersonating. It has not occurred in quite a while but he made sure to let me know it was the same "person" each time. Fortunately, his piloting ability prevents him from killing much at all and most times I could get him to dig a hole by following me into a moderately aggressive type maneuver... But the fact was that his intentions were to disrupt normal operation of my server. I provided many chances for him to "reform" himself (many told me I was too generous) however, each time he was sure to communicate his less than ideal outlook on MP interactions. It is a good thing most have not seen this type of abuse... but it does appear to be a potential problem lurking behind the scenes. Honestly, I only ever focused on player name and UCID back then but if I get a sec I will take a look at the IPs if I can pull them from the server logs.
  3. DCS P-51D QUESTIONS First of all, I don't have much need for dives above 500mph so it doesn't impact my daily flying much. However, if realism is the goal I think it's worth pointing out any disparity or at least discuss it. I ran a test mission diving from 10,000 feet and the control surfaces depart at the same exact point every time (somewhere between redline and 540) Now you may say that this is "ultra hyper ludicrous speed" but if you do a liitle searching online you will find reports of dive speeds in a 51D by combat pilots AND test pilots over 550 and even up to 600 with no signs of instant disintegration. Yes we all know the aircraft becomes very unhappy at this point so please don't think I'm suggesting that it's a good idea to fly above redline. Just sayin' EDIT: Corrected all of the misspelled words. To think, english is my native tongue. I can blame it on my phone, maybe. :)
  4. Dealing with teamkilling. I've banned others who could not return. I'm pretty sure it's functioning properly. This one "individual" came back repeatedly with different UCIDs. I banned them all of course but that does nothing to prevent them from entering with yet another new UCID. My point was that I've even seen that approach exploited.
  5. But, like I said, even after banning a UCID I have seen a pest return to cause more trouble. So there is either a way around this OR he is so committed to annoying me that he installed multiple copies of DCS.
  6. Yessir, I agree. I'd rather the effort be put towards the new engine and other more important issues. I have already taught myself ways to avoid becoming a lawn dart in such situations.
  7. In all fairness, I think the instant destruction of control surfaces the moment you exceed 505 is a little off. Especially if you aren't applying any stick pressure. Maybe the combat pilots were incorrect but I've read plenty of after action reports where p-51 pilots described dives of well over redline IAS with no disastrous results. Interestingly, I recall them describing how they watched 109s rip apart in front of them. There is room for improvement. If you read about the war time max dive testing they describe lots of airframe shaking. I don't think we experience this at all with the DCS P-51D in a dive...things just start detaching from the a/c once you go "too fast."
  8. Yup, SLMOD. Love it. And despite what some may say about performance impact on the server from what I see on ours, it's negligible. TKers can be frustrating. The ban hammer is the ultimate "last laugh." Now be prepared... I've seen people get around the UCID ban but if you make it too much work for them they usually move on to get their jollies elsewhere.
  9. Grand Opening of the DoW Officers Club!
  10. I just saw this! Great post and thanks for the education. Makes perfect sense and I appreciate the energy you put in it to explain it all.
  11. Mountain Top landings my new fun thing to try! Nice Willz! Very cool idea.
  12. The coolant temp can rise very quickly. Mostly when flying too slow or if the coolant radiator doors are closed.
  13. This is good to know. So in the future when I pull the handle to get the gear down with battle damage I will also be prepared for full flaps. Sounds like it might be a bad feature if you are just trying to get the gear down but don't have a lot of airspeed to sacrifice. Everything I had read about the T-handle suggested it was to release the fairing doors.
  14. "Keep the tail down initially, keep it straight by feel rather than any positive technique... tail coming up now... once the rudders effective. Unconcious corrections to the rudder are happening all the time. It's incredcibly entertaining to watch the '109 take off or land. The rudder literally flashes around!" - Mark Hanna I REALLY look forward to this experience :)
  15. Both aircraft listed by Gav are DCS AI.
  16. So by your logic... I should be able to attend the weekly Skype development meetings starting September 2014 (potentially AFTER DCS:WWII is released) This is great news for me and the others at the $1000 tier. To say things haven't been confusing makes YOU sound a bit "crazy"
  17. What he said. All this time claiming that the sim is too hard could be spent learning how to fly it. The real travesty would be if the DCS P-51D WAS easy to fly. I personally, want the challenges the actual WWII pilots faced. Nothing less. And of course we get a few others... due to hardware limitations. But it is do-able...and very rewarding. Come see it in person on the servers. There are people flying at all hours, young & old that can make that Mustang perform like a dream. (with full-realism settings) The thing most have in common? A dedication to mastering this challenging aircraft. This aint your daddy's Cessna. :D
  18. Great to see the progress on this!
  19. They are pretty awesome birds...but who is dogfighting a C-17? Did I miss the list of aircraft wingspans you might actually fight in a P-51? :D That would be nice.
  20. Weird. I run an AMD processor and AMD graphics card and only see a slight performance hit during extended firing.... the gunfire is still an issue but the P-51 runs plenty good to get kills online almost every day. My only gripe is that the studders/lag break immersion. I have tweaked my rig/settings a lot along the way so I'm guessing that helps some. Any combat failures I experience now are my strictly my fault :)
  21. Also give our [DoW] server a shot. If you give us a heads up on Chat or TS that you are looking for combat experience with the Stang there are plenty of us that can assist.
  22. Thank you for the explanation, Yo-Yo. I've been curious of its behavior before and the auto switch to the battery makes perfect sense.
  23. Most documentation says not to run with WEP for more than 5 minutes to avoid engine damage. There have been discussions on here about it and I once experimented with it and posted the results in the link below. Not sure about how the S/C settings influence it as I didn't try that. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=116107&page=3 (9th post on that page)
  24. I saw the Master Server message on my server earlier (5:27 Eastern) after getting home from work. I re-logged in and it connected normally. Had a bunch of people flying on it tonight with no issue. Weird stuff.
  25. Merry Christmas, guys! And a happy new year of exciting developments. :xmas:
