DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
SmirkingGerbil replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
From Kate, via the "no discussion" thread from Silver Dragon: Posted 1 hour ago (edited) From Kate Perederko (dotrugirl) on Discord: . . . 18. Me.262 is NOT in the works. Translation error? Not trying to create panic, but looking for clarification. I am thinking this means "currently not being worked on?" That would make sense with upcoming work on the Mossie, and other new units. -
How did you find out about / or get into DCS?
SmirkingGerbil replied to Dangerzone's topic in DCS 2.9
Found my way here from IL2, via 1C back when 1C and ED still had some cross links. Installed as Steam client specifically for Black Shark, was hooked, hopelessly. Think that was 2011 or 2012. Found my way to DCS proper, and installed the A-10C around 2013? or so. Never looked back. Just keeps getting better and better. -
Fantastic!!! Not sure if I came across any unusual behavior, but noticed and played around with the following: Cowling Buffet! Yeah you really need to use those only when warranted. Dive flaps! Even with on, I went into a steep dive from 8K and when I pulled out after bomb drop I either: Got caught in bomb blast and my wing tips disintegrated. G forces ripped off my wingtips. Engine management (water temps) seems to need a bit more tweaking. Holy crow! Engine damage leads to sputtering and missing, oil and water streams spew out separately and Water Injection slowly decreases in efficacy but continues to make power (while decreasing) until drained. Stippling and peel back of skin from bullet impacts seems much more pronounced! So far, just another amazing OB drop, and the new models in ME look stunning.

Fantastic update!! So much to "unpack" here (pun intended). So far I have ripped off my wingtips in a steep bomb dive in my P-47, heard the R-2800 sputter and struggle as oil and water leaked out, and watched my Methanol Water injection slowly reduce in efficacy and power output. Notice the nice stippling and skin peel from bullet impacts, among so many other things like "cowling buffet". New ME units look fantastic!!! looking at models from 2012 next to these beauties is a real eye opener as to how much work you guys are doing. Thank you, thank you!

Hmmm, I have no Kindle, though I can read it with the cloud Kindle reader, but graphics do not show. Author lists as compatible for PDF, but I find no method to open graphics in Kindle reader, or a method to open in PDF with the Kindle version. Do you have any experience with this, or a link I am missing on how one is to use the PDF version once purchased from Amazon?

Hey all, I have flown with Adamastor in different groups. He and I cut our teeth on some more esoteric A-10 usages, and we always worked well as a team. After a hiatus due to work, I stumbled on this group, and I am glad to be flying with Adamastor again! I am CST/CDT timezone, but the new Wildcats group can work with you if you can make a couple of trainings 19:00 Zulu a month. You can fly with these folks on weekends and early weekdays, a good group to fly with even you can work around the NA to EU time difference. Us hawg players are always outnumbered by those enamored of the "fasties", but it is like that old WWII saying - "If you want the girl, fly the P-51 (F/A-18), if you want to get home, and not have to limp home because a manpad gave you the stink eye, fly the A-10CI!!" Good group.

I do agree "stutter" can be an issue, and I can relate; however, I am not experiencing, especially with WWII birds. I do experience stutter on the Syria map, even more so with modern birds, less so with WWII birds. I also experience stutter and frame rate drops on Syria (haven't tested other modern birds) when I engage the TGP - which is new, it never caused this before. But - I have either logged a bug report, bot tagged onto someone else's feed who has. I know, it is frustrating, but my view on it is - this is OB, and when it is fixed, it is fixed. Unless of course it is game breaking but I don't consider the ups and downs of OB that we get (Stutter, frame rate loss, ME path issues, visual bugs) as game breaking. The new DM is fantastic, I don't experience stutter, or at least I haven't noticed it. Your best bet would be to attach a track file, submit, and see if anyone here, or the devs can replicate.
-
I am seeing this with the A-10CII module. Especially over Syria map. Guess I need to queue up some before/after videos, tracks, and submit a possible Bug report in the Bug section of the A-10CII, and reference this thread.
-
Thank you for the expansion of the module!
SmirkingGerbil replied to Pikey's topic in DCS: Syria Map
When I first bought this map, the first thing I did was fly out to the location of Dier-ez-Zur to see if we could even make a tiny sliver workable. The inclusion of Dier-ez-Zur opens up the addition of so many new scenarios. Now, we just need more of Northern Iraq, so we can get scenarios like the Battle of Haditha Dam for a 160th SOAR missions! -
A stutter here and there (Syria map!) Sometimes I drill 60+ FPS, sometimes not so much - but the Instant Action Syria mission (Ground targets) and popping a tank Lets try this WYSIWYG editor . . . update! Yet again!
-
Good Lord man! Just stumbled across this thread. I was perfectly happy with my solution to use the A-10C HOTAS and stick for my P-47 - now you have shattered that, must have!
-
Yes, I was surprised. I have had the 2 or 3 trigger failure also. At least now we know it isn't the map. I punched WEP several times there at the end, and it worked fine up till about the 10 min mark. So valid point - Did I have another 5 mins? Was my usage of it only good for 10 mins or so? Should I have gotten a solid 15? Don't have those answers, but for 10+ mins, it worked fine either locked, or multiple presses. Unfortunately, no real insight.
-
Well, latest OB, not a single one! The most reliable run of WEP I have had . . . running latest OB, over Syria, -30
-
It doesn't??? I am with @Pikey on this one. She flies like a dream, but if you just jump in without trimming for torque etc. she is reactive to control inputs. Just asking for clarification, to make sure I understand your statement. Maybe my perception is based on the way I have set my curves, and I have all the flight/trim and engine management controls mapped to my A-10C TM Warthog HOTAS and Joystick - so my experience my not reflect others.
-
Vfaco - You fly the P-47 with the throttle, in essence the throttle is the Boost (Turbocharger)/Throttle and Prop Pitch controls. Locking the Boost lever to the Throttle, and Pitch full forward is the simplest way to explain it. The R2800 generates a lot of torque, and will roll the airframe to the left with no trim to offset, it will also "walk the nose" of the aircraft if you change throttle positions suddenly, either by backing off of it, or firewalling (full forward) it. The torque will play havoc with hands-off flight. With all things set, Throttle/Pitch/Boost all full forward, you can fly hands off trim by adding in Rudder offset towards "T.O." or Take Off trim, a smidge of Starboard trim bias (Right wing down), and with those settings you can trim out the P-47 and fly hands off straight and level all day. Just remember, any throttle setting, that changes engine power output or torque, will mean you will need to trim out the tendency of the engine to roll the aircraft to the left. Once done, she will fly straight as an arrow. Also, reducing power, reduces the torque, so if you are trimmed to fly straight and level at full power, reducing power will cause the aircraft to veer, just be ready to trim as needed. Conversely, you can use throttle changes to modify flight trajectory, rolls, and even turns and gun runs to trim the nose in the direction you want. Comes in handy in a pinch during a dog fight. That is how I fly her hands off - experts may disown this, I am just a noob, but this is how I fly the P-47 for hands-off, and it works quite well. Trimming for hands-off is second nature to me now.
-
Now I understand, thanks for the clarification. I will certainly try some repeated negative G maneuvers and see if it will stop functioning - similar to activating more than a couple times with WEP button.
-
True, but only momentarily. Once you return to a neutral vector, or even with positive G's, function returns. Maybe that is what you meant, if so, apologies.
-
I have experienced this, since WEP was introduced. On DM server, and with this latest OB. At first I thought it was me, researched etc. As near as I can tell, like this thread, it is intermittent even with no damage. As long as I engage, and lock, it will run for a good (approximately) 15 minutes. But if I engage it without lock, a couple of times of differing duration, it will cease to function after two uses. Any WEP button depress after two uses will yield nothing. This happens in SP (todays OB), and on the DM servers this last weekend.

DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
SmirkingGerbil replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Great news, have plenty of beautiful WWII birds to keep busy until then, specifically the P-47D-XX on the DM servers! -
My weak, and poorly executed JTAC interaction, using Voice Attack. Still use menus, because I am bad, and forget flow. Still, managed to get it done with AI. The lords name is taken in vain, some cussing, not full on sailor in a brothel with a major fist fight, but you will hear some.

Why don't our warbirds cough and struggle on startup?
SmirkingGerbil replied to Nealius's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Appreciate your insight and responses . . . but I am just a layman, so I will leave this to the experts. I am not the one that can weigh in on applicability, or feasibility. If these things are possible, wonderful! After all, I still get a smile when I strap on an airplane, and see the needles swing in response to my actions, a very happy consumer here.
