DCS is on list for supported games on HDK 1.4 so must be on HDK 2 too. -
Open Source Virtual Reality - OSVR and DCS
wormeaten replied to wormeaten's topic in Virtual Reality
As I understand guys major factor for SDE is PPI which should be improved. HDK 1 = 400 PPI and HDK 2 = 440 PPI. Similar like DK2 vs CV1. RGB should increase picture quality so cockpit instruments should be more readable than on CV1 and not effecting on SDE what could be advantage to OSVR over CV1/Vive DCS users. I'm only interested how this will impact on DCS nothing else. Point is DCS is demanding so what work the best in DCS will work good on other VR stuff as well. -

But this is 440 PPI similar to Vive so for more precise will be more close to Vine not to Oculus CV1. -

Interesting, Vive/CV1 performance for 400$ next month. -

I'm surprised you got such good performance on ATI/AMD R9 290X. That means we should take seriously in consideration RX 480 8GB for 230$. When RX 490 get out will kick ass for 300$. I'm curious about real gameplay benchmarks. -

Nice so higher physical screen quality is noticeable even on lower res. Thing to take in consideration when you think about to buy 4K TV. -

I was playing DCS on 1080p 40" TV Picture is little pixelated but in game you are not noticing that because of moving. Static picture if you want to work for example in Photoshop is noticeable but at 40" is bearable. With increasing size is increasing pixelization but how much you are noticing it depend from distance you will use it. I'm talking about distance fron 20 to 30" from TV. If you go for full HD TV take some better model with 3D and don't go above 46-48" 50" max. Just for gaming it is OK and relatively cheep solution. Also you can force higher resolution on computer for example 1440p which will smooth picture a little give you more movie feeling. -

If you play from closer distance 20 to 30" and have 55" and above curved screen could give you around 20° larger FOV than flat screen same size. -
OSVR is open source. Right now using 1920x1080 440PPI 120Hz with same MIPI board. But... As this is open source there is group of people start project to upgrade to 4K 5.5" 800PPI 60Hz based on some new Toshiba chip set direct on Display Port for better performance in 4K. Lots of GPU dont have HDMI capable run 4K on more than 30Hz but DP is capable. There is also discussion to upgrade on 2560x1440 530PPI using existing MIPI board what will be only screen upgrade for around 50$. With such upgrade OSVR will be superior to OR/Vive and just to mention price of OSVR is 300$ now and have better performance than DK2. http://www.osvr.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3463

4k UDH TV discussion/ help

True VR is VR no match in immersion but I want to say 4K larger screen is closer to VR immersion than any other screen. VR vs Screen is completely opposite approach. VR is go more to immersion when screens aim more to pictures sharpens and clarity. About 4K GPU lets wait Radeon RX 480 8GB 230$ be released this month and see some first real games and independent benchmarks. At least will show us is it worth it wait for R9 490 which will definitely be somewhere between 980ti and 1080 with performance but for about 250$ less. 40" is border size for 1080p any larger screen on that resolution is annoying pixelisation. With 4K is completely different 4K looks better even on 65" than 1080p on 40". Same distance off course. My point was not to question about picture quality, it is normal that on smaller screen same resolution looks better. When I was talking about 55" I was referring on whole experience not just resolution. I will compare it like seats on basketball, both of us are on same match but one with better seats have better experience. If I'm aiming on 4K I will think on all aspects not just resolution. -
Open Source Virtual Reality - OSVR and DCS

For price of 1 OR CV1 you can get 2 OSVR. And OSVR is upgrade able so you can get better resolution much more sooner than CV2. In the end why not compare OSVR with CV1 or Vive? Is that something bad? -

If you go on 4K TV dont go below 55". Point of the 4K resolution is you can look picture from closer distance. So if you use if from 20 to 30" distance and resizing and seting up proper FOV you will get realistic and immersive feel similar as VR without 3D and got feeling like you are inside cockpit. Even better will be if it is 3D model so with 3D glasses will be like rift. -
Did anyone try OSVR especially by using it in DCS? Right now OSVR is 300$ and it is better by performances than DK2 even with 1080p Display. As this is Open Source project there is group of people who staring project to upgrade it to 1440p by using DP not HDMI for additional increase of the performances. Reason is to be able for 4K display upgrade using the same board based on some new Toshiba chip. I'm interested is anyone have experience with DCS using OSVR to share it with us? Thanks.

SkateZilla. Do you know something about DCS performance in CF? RX 480 8GB for 230$ looks compelling. Low power consumption, just one 6pin power connection prows it. Everyone could build easily two card in the rig without need for new PSU. Question is how this will work in DCS on DX11 because RX 480 2x in CF outperform 1080 or Titan but in DX12 where AMD have advantage by default because DX12 Mantle based technology. What is the DCS performance gain in CF comparing with single GPU or SLI in percentage?
-
Not in DCS and there is the problem. You can't really evaluate LM in DCS without proper support. Right now you can LM use in DCS only as mouse and that is actually 2D in 3D space. Only then could work properly in DCS what will be great but right now is not usable in DCS.
-
Major problem LM need real 3D 6DoF program for moving in real 3D cockpit like it is in DCS. It is not that precise to use it as 2D mouse like it is now.

VR in early 1990's -- on the Commodore AMiGA
wormeaten replied to pappavis's topic in Virtual Reality
To be honest this game was from late 80's and was my first combat simulation and I realy think it was awesome. And than come On Amiga 500 F16 Combat Pilot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-16_Combat_Pilot Something even more better with real weapons, cockpit and instruments. Than Falcon 2.5 and all rest is history. :pilotfly: -
