  1. I have been running DCS with a 780 now for 3.5 years and 2.1 has finally killed my FPS, I could wait for performance improvements or upgrade... If I was to upgrade what should I look at a 1070, 1080 or a 1080 TI? Or wait for the next gen GPU. The rest of my specs are in my signature :) Thanks, Krupi
  2. Yes I tried that thanks. Just checked my GPU drivers and the damn PC updated them to 382.05 which cause the issue, rolled back to 381.89 and the white light is back... what a joke.
  3. I had this yesterday, after fidiling around with GPU drivers uninstalling, reinstalling and the same with Rift drivers it worked. It worked fine a few hours back and I just came back and low and behold the orange light of doom and blank screen is back! Can anyone help?
  4. LOL in my defence I rushed those bits to get it setup, I will be making a pieces actually fit for this build at some point :D Thank you :)
  5. +1  Normandy looks fantastic Now it is a long wait for the next gen 4K VR screen :D
  6. So I finally got to try Normandy today, only one word.. Incredible. After reading the issues people were having I went for 1.5 density and the pre-set VR, it looked smooth as silk when flying around then I turned the FPS counter on... Only 23 fps!!! Not sure if it is because I am tired or summit but it sure looks higher than 23 fps. Not the best GPU here 780, waiting for the next gen... However I was definitely getting better fps above Nevada city 45-55 IIRC & 60-90 everywhere else in NTTR. Anyway I am sure it will improve :) Thanks ED, gotta say it again INCREDIBLE
  7. However we would be able to give those pesky 109s a good run for two minutes at least... I can't wait for the mk 14 to charge onto the scene :D
  8. Hey Chaps, I have been quite busy moving into new digs and having to paint etc... which I have been doing for the last few months. I made myself promise not to fly in DCS until I had the majority of the rooms painted and also reached a decent step towards completing the spitfire control column. This has been torture as I have completely missed the Normandy Pre-Alpha  However this weekend I almost finished the apartment and made significant steps towards finishing the control column as you will see below... I was able to purchase a camera button and connection for my grip, luckily it just manages to clamp around my fake "grip texture" :D Over the past few months I have been experimenting with a variety of mechanisms on the aileron control and have finally settled on a design. Unfortunately the cost of making the parts I required was insane, luckily I was able to make use of a milling machine at work after a bit of a refresher (I relived my apprentice days fortunately I have gained a lot of patience from those days :poster_oops:) and was able to pay attention long enough to make something that would do the job :) I know it doesn't look like much, I can already see the sneer on real machinists faces. However this piece of aluminium has an important job it allowed me to complete the column and send the parts off to my local powder coater who turned my odds bits of aluminium into something far more presentable :D I still have a long way to go to see my original concept come to fruiting & some parts are still rushed together experiments... However once the columns and buttons have been connected I am one step closer to my goal of immersion and my first flight in DCS in months :pilotfly: FYI there is roughly a 50% difference between the elevator and the aileron control in an attempt to mimic something like the actual controls, hence the need for four springs :)
  9. You mean its meant to not work?
  10. Seems to be working for me its downloading 14GB right now
  11. Rep inbound...
  12. err... what kind of argument is that?
  13. I am sure curves help that is why they are there, however I feel like they are a bit of a cheat... unless I am being rather ignorant...
  14. My understanding behind the reason why the 109 and 190 wings do not snap off is because they physically cannot deflect the elevators like a pilot can in the Spitfire the forces on the stick are too strong. I was sure something was modelled incorrectly until someone posted a paragraph from a book where it tells the story of a Typhoon pilot ripping the wings off his Spitfire when they were switched to them... That story and Yo-Yo's explanation were enough to shut me up. Then I recalled the pilots who say flying the spit is a dream because you only need to fly with your fingers, with other aircraft you hear the pilots talking about how they had to wrestle with the controls. I think the problem here is the control implementation not the physics, the 109 and 190 feel like your flying on rails at high speed, it is damn hard to break something however you feel like your controls are delayed. I have a centre stick with an extension and it is still hard to resist jerking back on the stick and bang there my wings go... so i can't imagine what the experience is like for a sidestick user!!! Yes it is incredibly frustrating however it is these kind of quirks that make DCS a cut above other WWII sims. P.S. I (perhaps foolishly) refuse to use curves on any aircraft.
  15. it feels twitchy because of the light elevators, you need to be very gentle when pulling back. Are you using a centre stick or side stick? Regarding tactics, due to the slow speed you do have to fight quite defensively... you just cannot lone wolf it like the K4 & D9. The best thing you can do is jump on TS & get yourself a wingman then you can fight a bit more offensively.
  16. What about a Bristol Beaufighter or a Mossie? I would like to see at least one of those someday :D
  17. I am pretty much torturing myself at this point, I have the early access downloaded & installed and yet I have not accessed it! Before I can enjoy the delights of Normandy I have to A) Finish painting my apartment and B) Complete my Spitfire Control Column... So close I might be able to fly next week :pilotfly:
  18. OMG.... the trees, the hedges... Dammit ED I have moved my PC into my flat as I wanted to concentrate on refurbishing my house now I will have to setup my PC here tomorrow! :pilotfly:
  19. Can we download it now?
  20. More control in fact, as you have greater precision on the elevators that would allow greater control of the elevator before you snap the wings ;)
  21. Why would it, you have less control so any slight movement would have a larger impact on elevators. It is more realistic with this approach, however because you have no feedback it feels unfortunately quite unnatural :(
  22. Hey Imacken, I am in the middle of moving at the moment but I hope to be flying again sometime in the next week or two. I think Phil nailed DCS Online with his previous comment, however do not get turned off by the seemingly negative remarks from some posters, yes it is hard online... the learning curve is steep and you have to prepared to die :D however it is tremendous fun especially when you are flying with Teamspeak. Once Normandy is out then things will change I am sure, I cannot wait for more tactic based online servers :)
  23. You know exactly what I mean Sith so no need to be snarky. I would like to see a more relevant aircraft set for the scenario, I have been enjoying the "quake war" and I am eagerly looking forward to Normandy and missions and hopefully multiplayer campaigns however that still won't address the aircraft issues.
