  1. I imagine it is to do with two things: 1: So it is good practice to always start with the left engine. 2: Most multi engine aircraft take power from one engine, seemingly the left engine in most cases. So you will always want to run that engine first.
  2. Just want to give a thumbsup to Suntsag, enjoying these videos
  3. That really isn't saying a lot unfortunately. Why can't it be a full theatre? Personally I think the Asset Pack still needs a lot of work, specifically in terms of AI aircraft. Regarding aircraft we still need at least a G6, early and late versions preferable. Other aircraft that would be great to have: A luftwaffe twin, Ju88 or perhaps a Me410. (Perhaps this isn't feasible) P-38 Spitfire MkXIV if we can't get a Tempest P-47 Razorback P-51 B And we are desperately in need of WWII navigation system on both sides, which apparently will be coming.
  4. "Untapped Market" Have you not paused to wonder why that is? "Let DCS worry about that..." What a terrible attitude, you can't just request that they add something and point blank refuse to acknowledge the potential difficulties in achieving what you desire. Again I would really like to see a nod to the terrifying experience that crews had to experience, sometimes, on a daily basis. You could quite easily experience the nightfighter operations that the Mosquito FB Mk VI undertook without radar once we have this aircraft and a functional WWII navigational and radio system in place. But that is a very minor slice of night operations. True nightfighter operations, involve reproducing the Radar for both the RAF and Luftwaffe, navigational hardware that both used... What about Electronic warfare? Do you want to experience the effects of Window (which both sides used to fool radar systems) and arrive to find you have been outplayed and the enemy have dropped Bombs and are on the way home. Add to that the fact that many operations lead to just flying around in the pitch black and not being able to find the target at all. I am currently reading an Autobiography (Mosquito Pathfinder by Albert Smith) from a Wellington and Mossie Navigator, he completed 90 odd operations from 1942 onwards and by his own admission he wasn't concerned about the luftwaffe but if the target was over the Ruhr he would get in to a terrible panic with the mere thought of the flak he experienced. I will caveat this with two things, his experience in the Wellington over Ruhr /Germany was in 1942 shortly after he moved to the North African theatre where he sounded more likely to die from boredom than operations. So far he has only seen a Luftwaffe night fighter twice... After his first tour he decided to volunteer as a Mosquito Pathfinder rather than be told to join a large bomber squadron and we all know that Mosquito crews were able to fly higher and faster than the Lanc and Halifax so his experience of luftwaffe I expect is very biased simply from his own limited encounters. I haven't finished the book yet so there is the chance his blasé attitude towards the luftwaffes Wilde/Zahme Sau will give him a rather rude awakening but being in a Pathfinder Mossie I doubt it.
  5. Take it easy. I am not against night operations, quite the contrary, it was a hugely important campaign. All I am saying is that the original il2 developers while fantastic for that time do not hold up to ED. Take the P-47 if they had gaps in information they would fill them, take the DCS P-47 no one else (as far as I am aware) have gone to lengths they have to recreate the lost data. To me this shows that they are committed to a WWII sim as close to realistic as possible. My two main concerns regarding night operations are: 1) I am concerned that the data for the radar systems of the period will be hard to find or nonexistent. I might be completely wrong. 2) A hell of a lot of time developing everything required for night operations for what is probably a very small user base. Therefore it will be deemed not worth the time and cost when these resources can be used elsewhere, clearly the team is incredibly busy and still have lots left to do to deliver a complete daylight operations sim.
  6. I assume this is only for machine gun bullets, I assume cannon damage will not be affected by this? I didn't see it coming, fantastic news. Thank you ED
  7. Yes, I think the reason that the Navigator looked after some of the engine controls was more to do with ergonomics of having to use the right hand than not being able to reach. Classic 1940s British ergonomics
  8. Quite happy to wait, glad we getting to see and hear more about this incredible looking module
  9. Found this great video which shows some of the start up and just how cramped the cockpit was.
  10. Now that is something I would like to see, I am hoping that we will be getting this with the WWII navigation system.
  11. Here is what he said originally... He isn't wrong but personally I don't see it as an issue.
  12. I don't think it is about the braking power, YoYo wants all the WWII aircraft to have a chock system like the Mossie apparently does.
  13. Yes the IX entered production before the VII/VIII as it didn't require much change to the start producing Mk IX at sites already producing Mk V.
  14. The IX did not predate the VII (IIRC), thanks to structural changes it would have taken too long to bring all the production sites up to speed with the airframe changes therefore they went ahead and installed the Merlin 60 on a Spitfire V and the IX was born. Personally if we can't get a Hawker Typhoon/Tempest I would love to see a Mk XIV (Which was initially based on the VIII Airfame).
  15. From what I have read it is Silver Dope. Clear Dope with Aluminium Powder mixed in to help stop degradation of the fabric covering from UV Rays.... https://rafm.tours/hawker-hart P.S. Yes that is a Hippo, hit read more and see page 2.
  16. Would be nice to get something official regarding the frequency of these videos, was hoping to get one today.
  17. Well.. It could carry more but that is externally which impacted the performance. The climb was pretty poor for all versions compared to even the Bomber Mossie. The Ju88 was an impressive aircraft but it isn't that fast compared to the Mossie, at least looking at the bomber version. The night fighter was quite fast but the bomber was only able to attain speeds with GM-1 which so it couldn't be maintained. I would love to see a Ju88 or a Me410 in DCS.
  18. I would like to know as well, it is quite lacking for what I expected the assets pack to contain. We just don't have much in the way of AI aircraft compared to what was flying around circa 1944/1945. Lancasters, Wellingtons, He117, Me410, Typhoon and Tempests for example....
  19. I am currently reading Albert Smiths Autobiography "Mosquito Pathfinder", he was a navigator for the RAF and from his account his crew were assigned a particular aircraft, a Wellington MkIII, which they appear to have flown the majority of the time unless damaged. They were then assigned a more powerful MkX to replace the original MKIII but they didn't take the aircraft with them when the crew were posted to a different squadron in Africa.
  20. Aha, thanks for the quick response.
  21. Just looking for the trim wheels in the cockpit pictures, I am sure all surfaces have trim tabs, however I am struggling to locate the controls. I have found the Rudder Wheel (Red), Aileron Wheel (Blue) but not the Elevator only the Trim Indicator (Green). Is the knob next to the Elevator Trim the Trim wheel? Lovely 1940's British Ergonomics, who wouldn't want to play juggle with trim and the control column!
  22. This is especially true for Bomber Mosquitos as they went over Germany twice a night with a different crew for the second jaunt.
  23. Could you post a link to these, thanks
  24. I would love to have a Mk XVI bubble canopy, but appreciate that as you say it is fall 44/early 45 before it was widely available.
  25. Found this mock up of a Night Fighter which shows a Gyro Gunsight.
