Spent 14 years in the RAF as an Aircraft Engine Technician. First tour was a VAS (Visiting Aircraft Section) at RAF Leuchars, we flight line serviced all the visitors and organised the air shows. Worked with A6 Corsair, A10, F4, F5, F14, F15, F16, F111, AMX, even had a U2 in once for an annual air show!, C130, KC135, Tri-Star, VC10, Victor, Harrier, Hunter, Canberra, Hawk, Jaguar, Lightning, Tornado, Jolly Green Giant, Sea King, Gazelle, Wessex, Lynx, and probably a few I've forgotten!! It was a very busy section and I was there 3 years. Got loads of US aircrew embroidered patches the aircrew used to give us off their flight suits, still have them all in a drawer somewhere. Got lots of "jollies" (gash flights- jump seat flights) on various multi engine aircraft and tankers. Got hundreds of photos of all this. Worked on 25 (F) Sqn for 18 months when they were at Leeming working on Tornado F3. Spent 3 years working on RN Sea Harriers, major overhaul. Got to ground run them on a tie down pan....great fun. Even got to taxi one once. Spent 3 years building Adour for the Hawk and Jaguar aircraft in an engine bay. Spent my last tour - 5 years - at TTTE Cottesmore in ASF (Aircraft Servicing Flight) scheduled servicing of Tornado GR1 including ground running to Combat (max re-heat)....perk of the job :) I guess I've been up close to a few in my time, loved every minute, and would do it all again in a heartbeat........ Happy Days.

LOL yeah me too. I wish they would be a little more forthcoming with how they plan to do the merge. For those of us, and me currently, I have 3 versions of DCS. 1.5.6 Release, 1.5.6 Beta and 2.x.x with NTTR. Now it would be really useful to get a bit of a heads up on say, is it worth keeping 1.5.6 Beta? as I would say this may become redundant soon as I wouldn't have thought they will progress 1.5.6 much further as it is, other than bug fixes. It could then be planned to turn 2.x.x into 2.1 with Normandy release, then just make this into a 2.5 Alpha or Beta release with upgraded Caucasus map, once all is ok then a big update to 1.5.6 release to turn this into 2.5 release and just have a 2.5 release and a Beta version for community testing? Now to have a release version and a Beta version of 2.5 with all three maps installed as separate entities, that's gonna be huge!! Looking forward to how it all pans out but for now it's all a wee bit confusing at the moment!

I just picked up the Normandy map with assets too. Shame the release date has been pushed back again to late May. It was said to be late April on ED's face book page the other day when it was first posted on there, this has now also been changed to late May. I would say, if anything, the typo was the April bit :(

Blimey.........putting it like that you make life sound like it's just one BIG bundle :D

I had this too. I was expecting the leader (Wags) to be in the jet next to mine when I spawned in but he wasn't. Heard him on the radio though. I was taxing out when he called he had taken off. I just continued and once airborne I hooked him on the TAD and kept a 2-3 mile trail formation behind him as instructed and the rest of the mission worked flawlessly. Actually it's a good tour of the landmarks on the NTTR map, learned a lot from it. Maybe try again and just do a quick startup then taxi out expecting your lead to be way ahead of you with the checks.

Strange.....I've just tried the Spitfire in 2 alpha (post update) after reading this thread and I didn't have any of the listed issues. All indications seemed normal. I flew from Creech, but I have flown from other airfields on the NTTR and had the engine idle issue prior to the update, but this time - at Creech - no issue, it idled fine. Flaps worked, U/C indications were fine. Canopy opened and closed ok from the cockpit view....I didn't check the canopy from the external view, I did check the control animation and the flaps in F2 view and they all worked. Maybe something went wrong during your update? Hopefully BIGNEWY will get it sorted for you.

You can change the colour of the HUD from green (day setting) to orange (night setting) via a day/night switch just under the master arm switches on the left of the main front panel. If you want a different colour you have to use a mod. The brightness is adjusted by a rocker switch on the up front control panel just below the HUD. Not sure what's going on with your Mavericks, I have never had that issue so can't help there I'm afraid.....sorry.

Hi Ranger....thanks for your reply. I tried the exact same coordinates when I was on the AO server last night and they worked fine. Took me to the exact location of the target in the campaign so they were good. I may try and repeat mission 1 again later and see what happens, but for now I'm going to continue with the campaign. Just thought I would make a post just incase there happened to be an issue. Great campaign though, very atmospheric. Good work

Just started this campaign, and I must say it's great. Loving the voice overs and the back ground story....very well done:thumbup: I have just completed mission 1 successfully, however I did have an issue with it and it was more luck than anything else I got the 100% success. Here's what happened. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks for the great campaign. Looking forward to mission 2 :)

Glad to have helped out :) Hope they manage to fix the issues they found.

Lots of ripe wheat/corn fields in the second screen shot so could be July/August, first one has green fields but the trees are in full leaf so hard to tell. Stunning detail in both shots though. This map looks fantastic.

Count me in too. If there's any spaces left that is!! Lol. Spitfire, ME109 or an A10-C slot if you can. :)

A JU88 AI would be a great target for the Spitfire and P51, as the ME109 and the FW190 are now getting the AI B17 as a bomber target. For a fully fledged twin engine DCS WW2 module, the Mosquito gets my vote. They were used in 1944 for sweeps over Normandy so would fit the bill perfectly. One can only dream :)

Talking of CBU's has anyone else noticed a graphic downgrade when the weapon explodes? I dropped one on a load of trucks yesterday, but the only thing I saw were the trucks blowing up, not the big cloud of sub munitions exploding around the target I used to see. Is this a known bug?

Thanks buddy  Looks like ED either deleted the mission by accident or it got lost in updates!

I'll take a look for it in my 2.x install too, thanks. I distinctly remember playing this mission when I first learned the A10-C years ago. Something must have got fouled up in the updates somewhere. I found all the SP missions from 1.5.6 in the single missions folder of 2.x the other day. They just don't show up in the SP mission list in 2.x but all the files were there. Didn't check or look for the CCIP training mission though. EDIT Just checked my 2.x install and there are only 13 training missions in there, the CCIP one is missing. Any Mods reading this any chance you could mention it to ED and get the mission added or should I submit a bug report?

I've just purchased the Piercing Fury campaign for the A-10C and I'm getting back up to speed with the Hogs systems again (been a while since I've flown it) before I get into the campaign. I seem to remember on the official tutorial missions there was one on CCIP bombing and included the explanation of 3/9 and 5 MIL bombing. Did this mission get scrubbed from the module in an update? I cant find it anywhere. All the others are there. It even states at the end of the gun and rocket tutorial that the next one is for unguided bombs but alas it's not on the list. I do remember flying this tutorial years ago when I first learned the module but now cant find it! Was it removed? if so anyone know why?

Nice screenshots Wags, looking good. Pre-purchase loaded on the train for tomorrow?? :D Nice Pics above too. You get bad haze when there's an inversion, you can see the top clearly on the photo of the BBMF Spitfire, Hurricane & Lancaster there.

Churchills Few - Battle Of Britain Pilots Documentary

Classic documentary. Thanks for sharing the link. -
The map is stunning. Looking forward to just exploring it,.... in the Spitfire of course! :D Great idea about the time period option though. This will add many many years onto the life of the map giving the option for both WW2 and cold war scenarios on it. My guess on a release date for the map.......Friday 31st March :smartass:

Great update.....thanks Cobra

Any news if the pending updates are included in todays 1.5.6 update release?

Nice  Been waiting for this. Thanks for your work Chuck....

Concur......it's up right now on the 1.5.6 Beta. I was getting great fps on it today, 45 - 90 in VR - super smooth and no lag! - awesome. Glad it's back online :)
