It takes a bit of practice to land her, but once you have mastered it you won't forget it. Like riding a bike! It's a joy to fly in VR, and I find it MUCH easier to fly in VR. I tried in 2D on a 32" flat screen TV with track-ir and I was all over the place. It was like I had to learn it all over again. In VR you're sitting in it, I find I can 'feel' the aircraft much much more and this helps a lot in landing it. I won't add any advice here as there is lots of good stuff already said in this thread, but I will say to those struggling with the Spitfire, keep at it, persevere and practice practice practice, she really is worth it. My late father served in the RAF during WW2 as an engine fitter, and was based at Tangmere during the BoB working on the Spitfire. Since I was a kid I always dreamed of flying a Spitfire. I did get to fly solo IRL but not in a Spit! but the first time I flew it in VR I had a lump in my throat! Lol..! a grown man getting emotional over a pc simulator! Crazy, but its the closest I will ever come to fulfilling a life long dream. My all time favorite module in DCS for sure.

Update to the above post..... Managed to sort the graphics bug in cockpit with a reboot! all ok now and getting reasonable fps 30+ in Normandy in VR with differed shading OFF, and no game crashes so far, so there must be an issue with the differed shading somewhere. Otherwise great update.
-
I'm also getting crashes all the time with differed shading on, so tried it with DS off. No game crash at all, can exit a mission/server and go back to the home screen no problem and quicker mission load time, but the cockpit graphics are broken with differed shading of....see screen shots. This is in VR on Oculus. I also get very long loading times for missions with differed shading on, can be up to 10 minutes and I'm on a SSD! So for me I guess 2.1.1 is broken for now
-
Same here. When exiting a server after a multi player session, or any mission. I haven't tried 2.1.1 yet but will report back if there is any change. I also get bad stuttering when on the aircraft selection screen on a server, particularly if there's a lot of slots to choose from. Hoping for an improvement in 2.1.1 but we'll see.
-
+1 The way it is now is way way way better than it ever was before. 2.1 is headed in the right direction for sure IMHO.

Agree, no it isn't ideal.....but it's a start and given time ED will get it working better I'm sure.

My settings are attached to this post. Most stuff tweaked down but good enough for an enjoyable flight. I have been on servers that were unplayable for me.....lag, stutter the works, but this one particular server was great. Only around 5 pilots on it and I had a silky smooth lag free flight. You know when you can't do anything because it's unplayable? well I had no issues here at all that was noticeable, could hold formation great and enjoy the fantastic view at the same time. Hope the settings help someone. I'm still tweaking but for now until ED improve the stability I'm sticking to these as they work great for me. Edit......my PD is set to 1.5 Also no ground targets on the server as far as I was aware, I get stutter when there's ground targets in the vicinity!

Well, I just had my best experience of Normandy yet, so thought I'd post this as a bit of positive feed back for the map. Flew on the RAF662.org server......silky smooth, no lag or stutter and all in VR. Flew with a guy called Dalton (if you read this, thanks man for a great flight) both of us in the Spitfire, formation and tail chasing up the coast from Pointe du Hoc heading east then inland at various altitudes. Silky smooth and an awesome experience, this map really is stunning. Great work ED. A few issues to start with, but on this particular flight it all came together and worked flawlessly, simply stunning.....

Thanks for the update Wags, very much appreciated. A bumpy release but Normandy really is stunning, and worth all your hard work. My only gripe is the VR performance, with the same settings but using trackir it runs like butter, very smooth with 90 + fps, on the Oculus it stutters but is playable by tweaking the settings. But once you fly VR there's no going back!, I'm sure you guys will nail this and get it running smooth. Overall for me a good ALPHA release, and look forward to all the improvements to come.

No reason really other than it was the best sig pic I could find of a Spitfire IX at the time. It's from 306 (Polish) Squadron I believe.

What aircraft are you going to be flying in normandy and why ?
bart replied to silenteye's topic in DCS: Normandy 1944
I can highly recommend the Bf109, it's a great challenge to master. On Topic.....Spitfire first for me, then a stooge about in the Bf109. I dunno, not trying to create rumours here or anything BUT anyone else noticed the lack of a Mosquito on the aircraft list for the assets pack on Normandy? This aircraft played an important role during the period in question on our new map. You know, I can't help but think (or dream)........DCS Mosquito inbound....... sometime next year perhaps. YoYo will once again stun us all with his unbounded talent, that currently just flows out of every rivet in the Spitfire IX, and create for us another superb masterpiece. A Mosquito would fit perfectly into any WW2 scenario on the Normandy map. What you guy's recon? -
Sure can mate, standing room only though I'm afraid and the buffet car is sold out of beer!......move to the back there please....make room. Well, look on the bright side. When you bail out over Normandy you will have a stunning view on the way down. :D

Normandy :D Hang in there mate....hope you get your replacement soon......

What happened to your Rift Cibit?

This map is going to be great with RAZBAM's Harrier for CAS ops. With all that Marston runway matting reminds me of the old Harrier detachments in Germany operating out of fields and using roads as runways.

[REPORTED]/[MERGED] Roll Oscillation w/ AP Alt Hold - 1.5.6.3690.269
bart replied to Scotch75's topic in Bugs and Problems
This was on the list for the A10-C in today's Beta update :- "A turn coordination with SAS enabled corrected." Can anyone confirm if this is the fix? and did it work? I've just downloaded the update but haven't had time to try it yet. -
The rear nozzles (Hot Nozzles) will glow in the hover as the aircraft is almost at full power in the hover. It can't do a safe vertical T/O with a full fuel load as it's too heavy (at least the GR3 and FRS1 that I worked on). The modern variants had a DECU (Digital Engine Control Unit) and a more powerful engine. The earlier variants had a mechanical FCU that needed setting up, like a carburettor on an old car! There is also a water injection system on the aircraft to increase thrust when hovering should the pilot find himself in a position where full throttle wont maintain a stable hover.....it doesn't last long though! The aircraft will happily maintain a stable hover hands off if it has been trimmed correctly. I spent 3 years doing deep strip maintenance on Harriers and know them inside out.... the fuel, nozzle, water injection system and the engine was my bread and butter for just over 3 years. Even had a trip in one once, a two seat Navy jet that was on a post major delivery flight to RNAS Yeovilton. I can even remember it's number ZB603! It was a trip of a lifetime! Fantastic little jet.

I had this twice the other day on NTTR. I engaged Alt autopilot whilst circling some targets at around 18k. I thought it might have been a heavy load out (Mavs and GBU12's) and the altitude combination having a strange effect on the autopilot. I will test further and see what happens..... -
Anyone got a decent AAR practice mission they would kindly share for the M2000-C?

Is Nevada not working at all right now?
bart replied to artmustel's topic in DCS: Nevada Test and Training Range
Same here, I had a buzz around in the Spitfire on Friday following the update and had no issues either before or after the update with modules. My system spec is also in my sig. BUT the exception to this is clouds for me.......they absolutely kill my FPS on NTTR, and have done so since the infamous update that seemed to hit other users with differing issues. I really hope they trace the cause of this soon for the good of all concerned. -
Guy's......question on the close combat modes.... In Chucks excellent manual he gives examples of the HUD indication when in radar special modes, the Horizontal scan mode gives a horizontal dashed line in the HUD, in Vertical mode you get the vertical dashed line, and bore sight mode the circle. I can see any dashed lines on the HUD when cycling through these modes, I see them on the radar screen but not on the HUD, any idea what could be wrong? Do you need say Magic missiles loaded to get these symbols? because in the tutorial missions, the air to air one (mission 9 I think) explains these modes after you have fired your last Magic and only have gun ammo left. EDIT :- Got them working......it seems you need the master arm switch in the live position and then the dashed lines appear on the HUD, as does the gun sight.
-
This got me too, and was just about to create a thread asking about it. I'm new to the module, had it for a while but just got around to learning it in earnest. I was also following the training missions to the letter but couldn't get the gun to change modes......guess I know why now! So what does Azreyen mean when he says only way to select guns in air to air mode is via the throttle? I cant get the hud to display the gun indications either, any ideas gents?

First flight for me has to be the Spitfire :) Looking forward finding a nice picturesque spot, bailing out in VR and enjoying the view on the way down. :D -
Just seen this.....Red Flag for M2000C.....this sounds great. Looking forward to how the progress on this goes, and release of course. Great idea BD
