  1. Do you mean that fresh FA18 had most of the warthog throttle/joystick buttons mapped? I know they have been working on making out of the box experience better. I wonder if I can just reinstall the module? Hmmm
  2. Or the space sims etc. I guess companies won't publish any numbers in fear of competition using it. I often wonder how many DCS folks there are that use VR.
  3. Man, I can't believe they won't help you guys. DCS is the POSTER CHILD for VR, methinks. But I could be biased. :D
  4. I guess the usual vendors would make it sooner or later. But because I knew I was going to go from HMD to HMD, I got the goggles instead. They are very flat so there's no danger of scratching the lens. I've used it with CV1, Odyssey, and now P5K+. If you plan on upgrading/changing you HMD, I think it's a better way to go. BTW, the goggles sit very close to your eyes. I didn't like it so much, so I added a little foam block over the bridge. Worked great. https://vr-lens-lab.com/product/vr-frames-virtual-reality-glasses/
  5. Yeah, I think there's a diminishing return there. Will post the Reverb as compared to CV1 and P5K+
  6. I purchased Odyssey the week it came out, I think. But to my tired 53 year old eyes with astigmatism, I just didn't see any improvement. In the WMR home page, things seemed clearer, but it wasn't "oh wow!" clear. It may have been placebo effect. So after testing for about week, I decided to return it. However, others said that they saw a clear difference from CV1. At this point, there is no reason to buy CV1. Rift S is around the corner, O+ is getting good reviews, Index/Reverb is also coming out. CV1 was *VERY* good to me. No issues, works out of the box, tracking is good. But the resolution, once I tried P5K+, is something I can't go back to. If you're thinking of the Odyssey, I would say go to Odyssey+. Or wait to see how Index/Reverb's of the world pan out. Again, there is a price difference, and I realize it has to factor in. Have fun.
  7. Crap. I guess it's not May 6th Eastern time. So either it's Pacific (likely) or in the morning.
  8. I've never tried the Odyssey+, just the Odyssey. I think you were talking about the O+?
  9. I just "ordered" the Reverb from Amazon. Out of stock, so not sure when it will ship. I'll check the HP site at midnight since it says available on the 6th. Can' wait to compare it to my P5K+. The narrower FOV concerns me, but we'll see.
  10. Yes, it runs fine. You need SteamVR but that's about it. You need Microsoft WMR software if it's a WMR HMD.
  11. Although Duke Nukem took it to a WHOLE new level. :D God I loved that game.
  12. I think people would be very interested. Even if people can't join the live stream, I sure would look at it after the fact. Also, what models are available for shipping in the first batch? Just CV1? Or will the generic one be available as well? Thanks Hansang
  13. I don't see intel prices coming down because of the Ryzen coming out. And if you're building a game rig, Intel is probably the right way to go. If you plan on running VM's, doing video processing, Ryzen starts to make more sense. Do you already have Windows 10? If so, and you log into your Windows/Microsoft account, when you install the Windows 10, the license will transfer over. You can start the Win10 install with the Windows Media Creation Tool (installed on USB).
  14. If you never try the Pimax 5K+'s wide FOV (well, I only tried the middle/Normal), you'll be fine. You don't know what you don't know. I was perfectly happy with CV1 for a long time. Now, I only use the Pimax.
  15. Most SSD's will work. I'm partial to Samsung EVO or Pro line. Again, for DCS, I doubt anyone will be able to tell the difference. MB? It'll be a function of the CPU. So 9900K will be Z390 series. Again, a religious discussion. I'm partial to EVGA. Dont' skimp on the powersupply. Platinum or Titanium, more than 850W. I've not heard that water cooler company. I've used Thermaltake and like it. Memory vendors? You probably can't go wrong with any of the popular ones. Corsair is what I have, but others will work just as good. Also, I'm not a fan of the mid tower cases. You may find it a bit tight...that 2080Ti is a big GPU. Finally, invest in a GPU support bracket. I hate seeing the GPU sagging. I just used a leftover lumber that I had, but they do make purpose built brackets.
  16. Both, actually. With 1920x1080, things are crisp and easier to see and pretty. 4K makes it even prettier, but the pixels are much much smaller and spotting the meatball and targets are much harder. Just google 4k spotting dcs target and you'll see what I mean. I will make a through the lens video showing a level flight that shows the meatball, some ground targets, and A10, F15's flying 5, and 10 miles away. I haven't tried with CV1 yet, but with 5K+, I can see the planes. Sure, I have to look for it, but I can see the movement. It's the same with my Acer. You *have* to look for it. It doesn't show up as clearly as 1920x1080 monitors.
  17. Will give it a shot. Thanks
  18. Since $2700 or so is not an insurmountable sum of money, you can have a pick of the litter. Essentially, it comes down to get the fastest CPU, memory, and video card that you can afford. The devil in the detail goes into things like "is AMD better than Intel" And I think for gaming, Intel wins. Is Nvidia better than other vendors? I think most will tell you that Nvidia is better. Though some will say that 2080Ti is not as much of an upgrade as 1080Ti. The thing is, for VR, you are looking for the fastest components. So 2080Ti *IS* better than 1080Ti. Again, assuming money isn't the deciding factor, which it doesn't seem to be. As for memory, there can be some trade offs in speed an latency. Again, you don't have to go crazy and I'm convinced that no human playing a game will notice the difference. Look at the HW specs of posters here, who have good experience with Pimax/Rift/Odyssey/Vive and you'll get a feel for it. There is also a dedicate forum for PC/Hardware where this topic comes up every week. You can do some reading there (see below) Also, you can see what "gaming rig" companies are doing with links like this: https://www.pcgamer.com/best-gaming-pc/ The recurring theme is, 2080Ti, SSD (1TB) is a MUST. NVMe, not so much. For DCS, there is zero difference betwen using SSD and NVMe. I tested it. For memory, I would *HIGHLY HIGHLY* recommend 32GBs DDR4s. 3200MHz. I saw a video on YT where someone took the time to run the same game using different speeds of memory *in* VR. And the higher speed made a difference. Again, things like CAS can play a role here, but I'd rather not go down yet another rabbit hole. So for VR, speed of RAM seems to matter more than playing games on 2D monitors. 19. Sniping is a last minute bid on auction sites that locks you out of a bid. So in this case, your posting a complete rig on amazon is what he was going to post "buy a ready made PC" presumably. So it became redundant. So you, the OP (original poster) made his comment unnecessary
  20. I tell you what, I've been comparing 5K+ and my Acer 34" Predator. I never meant to do a comparison, but I started creating a simple mission to test visual acuity. So you end up flying it in the mission editor w/ my monitor. Ask all the 4K monitor owners how the great resolution impacts targeting of planes in distance.
  21. Here are some videos by RomeoKilo This one shows it in action And here's the detail of it. Within 2 min you'll see the insides of it.
  22. I took a gasket, some friction pad, and made this. I use the chair for my home office so it has to move around.
  23. Yikes, this is telling and why Xtal ran faster FPS then every other HMD
  24. For me, I hate rechargeable batteries. It's never charged when I need it, it takes too long to put it into action. But again, what's useless to one, is priceless to another. And if the two things you use most, keyboard and mouse, make you more productive, maybe it's worth the higher price.
  25. There is no cross-eyed effect. This is with parallel projection off. However, as others have stated, when you zoom in, there is a cross over effect. Maybe play with the physical IPD setting on the P5K+ to make sure that's crystal clear?
