That's just how HUDs work. They only work if they're brighter than the background.
Since clouds are pretty bright (being white and whatnot) the clouds "overpower" the reflected HUD.

You mean historically accurate movies like Inglourious Basterds? The difference is that movies are officialy a form of art, whereas video games are (for some unknown reason) not.
After rewatching Full Metal Jacket a few weeks ago I was very suprised to see that it features no Hueys. :(
BTT: Forrest Gump features a few Hueys during the Vietnam scenes. Hamburger Hill and Born on the fourth of July (Tom Cruises mustache is great in that one) have some too IIRC.
I actually think EDGE and Nevada should be free. Future EDGE maps could come at a cost.
But right now it's like you have to buy the engine which makes the game run properly on your high end system at an extra cost.
