And yet there are many documented cases during WW2 where ships were sunk purely by aircraft cannon fire. They're definitely not invulnerable to even 20mm fire. Clearly the destroyer captain needed to withdraw further out to sea out of range of the offending flak 36.

DCS 2.5 is an SSD required? Fluid problems.
NeilWillis replied to Manuster86's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It will speed up loading while flying. As others have said, you'll get your money's worth if you get an SSD. -
DCS 2.5 is an SSD required? Fluid problems.
NeilWillis replied to Manuster86's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In theory you can run on 16Gb and a HDD, but it isn't going to be optimal, and as of right now, there is a memory clearing issue which will make matters more critical for you. A fix is due for that within 2 weeks however. I recommend you wait and see what difference that makes to you before spending any money. Having said that, you will definitely benefit from more RAM, and loading times will be reduced significantly if you invest in SSDs. -
Purchasing the Persian Gulf Map for MP, who's buying it?
NeilWillis replied to F900EX's topic in DCS: Persian Gulf
Including the Yak-52? Such a shame, we will miss you out there in the Gulf. :( :( :( -
The IPD will change the scale, and you have full freedom of movement to shift your eye point within the cockpit, and you can save viewpoints through current facilities. The real A-10C has some obscuring of the HUD, as previously mentioned. To be fair, we are dealing with a VR headset, and a virtual cockpit. We can't expect perfection just yet, though I think the A-10C is as close as you will see in ANY simulation, wouldn't you agree?

Wags mentioned the F-16 in the live feed too. I wouldn't hold your breath for this one though, it can and will take years to develop one.

Modelling of stationary air defenses
NeilWillis replied to VFA15-Juliet's topic in DCS: Persian Gulf
There was nothing permanent in that picture. Just some sand berms, and a few dirt track ways with a few mobile SAM units does not a permanent emplacement make. I would like to see something like a full SAM site modelled, but definitely baked onto the maps. Perhaps some berms designed for specific SAM assets, and the ability to overlay tracks and camouflage overlays would be great. -
What makes you think they are scratches? Could they not also be microscopic cracks within the matrix of the canopy? Any and all materials subjected to stress will develop what are in the case of the canopy purely refractive defects. Why would they be defined as a hazard if they don't affect the structural integrity of the component? I take it you have never flown in an airliner and looked out of a window when the sun shines directly through it.

Except of course 2.5 has only been out less than 3 months, so you might want to re-visit that statement and correct it.

HOTAS Warthog., Control Assignment is RED
NeilWillis replied to Palmtask's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It sounds like the inputs file has become corrupted. Re-name the offending item, and let DCS World create a new one. You should find the red line has returned to normal. You will of course need to reassign all the relevant keys however. -
How do you know motion sickness doesn't affect you when you have only ever had 1:1 motion available? The easiest, and probably the normal way in real world tactical situations is to perform a clearing turn. Turn 90 through degrees, look at the area that used to be behind you, and then turn 90 degrees back the other way. That, and don't fly straight and level when in combat.

Google Headset 5k, 1443ppi, 120hz reveal in May
NeilWillis replied to NineGzuz's topic in Virtual Reality
Fingers crossed. Hi Res, wide field of view, eye tracking, it seems to tick the right boxes. Let's hope a pair of fully functioning glove controllers complete the list too. -

Anyone who buys accessories for an Impreza deserves everything they get! Seriously though, you do understand the concept of pre-release testing do you not? Whether campaigns are working or not, the small print in the purchase agreement will have said all you would need to know. You did read the small print didn't you?

You have a map. All modules (except possibly the Harrier) work in 1.5, and that has a working map. For the most part, we can and do use the 2.5 map successfully. You just have to understand that it is still being developed. When it's finished, there will not be any issues with memory leaks etc. Be patient.

There was also a patch to update 4 issued on Friday. These issues were not present since 2.0, and have appeared only with the release of a BETA test version of 2.5. Might I also point out that 2.0 was an ALPHA build, and as such, both the Beta and Alpha versions can be expected to have issues. Once it has been released, you can start to moan, but until then, patience, and lower expectations ought to be the order of the day. No one told you to participate in pre-release testing, and you can hardly moan when it happens to be below expectations. That is what Beta testing is all about!

Cost of Armament & selection
NeilWillis replied to Thisdale's topic in User Created Missions General
Aircraft performance, availability and mission would be the parameters. Cost certainly wouldn't feature as a reason not to use ordnance. It would all be down to mission goals. -
You might try renaming your saved games install Dave. If it runs better, just slowly add back in the original files until you can put your finger on the culprit, then give that a good flagellating instead ;)

Always problems after update!
NeilWillis replied to rfager's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Also, always remove all mods from your install, then run a repair BEFORE installing any updates. There is absolutely no guarantee that mods will work after an update. -
Using kneeboard builder, yes, there is. In the options, you can re-size and move the kneeboard and do so for individual aircraft too.

Poll Re: SRS Simple Radio Frequency Setting Behaviour
NeilWillis replied to Shadoga's topic in DCS Modding
Just because you feel it needs a change doesn't mean there is an issue. That's why you're getting such a low feedback rate. It doesn't seem to me that Ciribob really has much interest either. You can easily change frequencies within cockpits, so what exactly is the problem with the current system? As long as you know what it does, it's predictable, and you just need to adapt your inputs to suit. There are far more pressing issues to deal with. -
That's a different question, for an entirely different thread. The P-47 and the Me-262 are not part of the WW2 asset pack, but will be sold as separate modules as and when they are ready. We don't have a date for any releases or updates, and we never will. ED will simply announce a pre-release sale, and you'll still not know when they'll be released. For example, we have the pre-purchase underway for the F/A-18C and as yet our only real timeline is "at the end of spring". If you don't like the release timelines, and announcements, then I guess you're in the wrong marketplace. My best advice is to wait until the full release has been completed before you make a purchase. Otherwise, you are simply going to have to accept the status quo, because that is the nature of things in DCS World. Quality takes time.

Rift Certificate / HMD Not Working 03-07-2018
NeilWillis replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
Got mine. A very suitable gesture on their part for what was clearly a genuine mistake on their part. The issue was resolved, and they have compensated their clientele - I'd call that a good outcome. -
There is no speedometer in a Mirage - it's an air speed indicator. It may be a small point, but when people do searches, they will miss this thread completely unless it uses the correct terminology. Please don't take it as nit picking on my part here. I just want our forum to be as useful as possible to everyone, and spelling and terminology errors will diminish the resource drastically. But yes, I too hope this bug can be resolved soon.
