Does the software support the new KW-908 seat? I am about to make a purchase, and it'd be great if the new seat was supported.

Multiplayer v AI here. Happy to help.

MFG Crosswind - Review
NeilWillis replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Pretty much. I have had mine for over a year, and they're robust, accurate, and backed by a no quibble parts guarantee. I would however also like some feedback regarding the combat pedal option. Soon? -
I'd like to see something like this too. It is a pain having to start in 2 different iterations, 1 to plan, and another to fly.

Facebook Wireless Oculus Rift Announcement
NeilWillis replied to Backy 51's topic in Virtual Reality
Indeed tintifaxl, the resolution and FOV are not exactly optimal right now, but even so, the immersion you get with the Rift still warrants buying one I feel. The next gen, hopefully, will improve performance and give higher resolutions in a wider angled display. Cordless would be a huge improvement too. The only question is when they'll be launched. I can't see this device they have announced ever being something of interest to flight simmers though. -
I would double check that the Joystick connecter cable inside the handle is correctly connected, and that you haven't inadvertently bent a pin when you attached the handle. I discovered that problem after I had bought a new joystick to replace the original that I assumed was borked. At least I have a working spare now though.

The air traffic controller will give QFE (Airfield Ground Level) settings as part of the pre-take off clearance. That data will need converting to the relevant units for the particular airframe, or you can simply set it to zero feet just before entering the runway. In Europe, you then set QFE (Standard Altitude) as you pass 6000 feet, or in the USA when passing 18000 feet. I believe in the USA they always work with QNE (Mean Sea Level) below 18000 feet. The idea being that you are under ATC controlled airspace until passing transition altitude, and above that, all aircraft will be operating on identical pressure settings regardless of location in order to avoid conflicting. Obviously, in the USA, the settings for all aircraft are the same below and above transition altitudes. Either way, setting the altimeter pressure before take off is an essential safety measure.

Definitely wishful thinking. ED will announce it at least in a change log when it is released, but I suspect a little more noise than that will be made.

I think you are incorrect DeJohn. You need to alter the saturation to reduce the overall throw of a device, and not the curve, which alters the amount an input changes a control surface over part of the curve and increases it over another part. Over all, this just makes controls less predictable and I think, complicates things rather than being an aid to control. The collective only reaching 75% at full deflection is a calibration issue. Adding a curve will definitely not help there either. Again, you can mask the issue by adding saturation. The flight model of the module should take into account the "feel" of controls, and so whenever possible you need to run without any curves. They really don't help. Linear reactions are always far more predictable. Dead zones however, as you said, will cover up for poor quality controls, and in some cases, without them you will get a constant trembling of the airframes control surfaces - in one case, with the VEAO Hawk, that was enough to cause hydraulic pressures to fall catastrophically leading people to think there was a bug. My advice would be to try to work through your sensitivity issues, and let muscle memory develop. If you are serious about flying, a joystick extension is the real solution.

I got that wrong then!

Wasn't the lightning incredibly good in the dive? I can't remember where, but I recall reading that that was it's ace in the hole in dogfights.

Nothing for 2.1 today, here is the posting from the change log: DCS 1.5.7 goes to Open Beta today. It will be available for public in the next week. And it is live now...

When you can't see outside the VR environment, and locate and pick up a controller whilst taking hands off hands on devices, then you're seriously compromising the whole VR experience. So we have 2 options - totally replace the HOTAS system with Oculus controllers or stick to the HOTAS system, and use voice commands and other work rounds. I know which one I will choose! I think until VR has matured beyond the 2nd Gen, the question of controllers and the huge investment in time and effort to integrate a stop gap is wasted effort.

Iron Flag: 4th of July sortie by Mudspike.com
NeilWillis replied to baltic_dragon's topic in Community News
Nice! Though celebrating a bunch of rebels stealing all that real estate from the legitimate government of the day - hmmmm :music_whistling: :music_whistling: :music_whistling: Just kidding. Happy independence day to our colonial cousins  -
As someone flying a full fidelity module, with all the right quirks and shortfalls, do you think it is reasonable for some arcade junkie to be able to outfly and outperform using a cut down simple flight model heap of crud? That's the last thing DCS World needs. They're trying to raise the bar, not drop it to the lowest common denominator. FC3 standard modules? Not a chance!

Announcement - new A-10C DLC training campaign
NeilWillis replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Definitely looking forward to this one. -
It's just you over thinking things. I expect they'll be busy with the Hornet for at least the next 18 months, with development of additional weapons systems continuing long after release. Long term though, who knows?

What A-10c knowledge is applicable to be operating the F-18c?
NeilWillis replied to sc_neo's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
It also has 3 undercarriage legs arranged in the tricycle configuration, 2 wings, 2 tail fins and 2 engines. One of the biggest differences is that while you're airborne, some inconsiderate fellow keeps shifting your airfield around the oceans. They also appear to have a very different method for stopping! -
How much better is Rift than Vive for DCS World?
NeilWillis replied to captainkoloth's topic in Virtual Reality
I understand that the Vive is heavier than the Rift. Most missions I fly are at least an hour long, and often longer. Comfort will be an issue, and I think the Rift has the edge from what I hear of the Vive, but again, I can't be objective as my experience is with the Rift. To be fair, I dare say there isn't a huge amount to choose between them these days. -
You have to respect those guys. Can you imagine the recruiter... "OK, all it involves is flying in a helicopter - on the outside mind - and then hangin off live electricity transmission cables with 250,000 volts runnin through 'em - oh yeah, they're definitely still live - but hey it sure beats MacDs don't yan reckon?"
-
At least it isn't affecting your immersion. That would be no fun at all. No idea what emersion is though!

We use a combination of Simple Radio, and TeamSpeak. Simple radio isn't so clever without your radios powered up.

Combined Arms isn't a feature of Normandy and the WW2 Asset pack yet.
-
You might want to look at RAF Air UK. We're a pretty low key crowd, but we have ex-military fliers and a trained FAC among our numbers. We fly 3 nights a week and have a dedicated server, available to the public for the remainder of the time. Operations revolve around the A-10C for the present, but we have also started to fly over Normandy for WW2 operations too. http://www.rafairuk.co.uk You'd be made very welcome.

If you're flying in game mode, you'll also need to map the keys in the F-5E game category. The sim category will not apply to game mode use.
