  1. I wasn't aware that there ever was one on the A-10C.
  2. What makes widows is insufficient training, pilot error, or complacency. The AV-8B is of course a handful, as were loads of other airframes, but when you stay within the regulation flight envelope it is an effective weapon. Outside the envelope - good luck!
  3. Thanks for the update.
  4. No pleasing some is there!
  5. So effectively, the standard answer - 2 weeks - actually applies in this instance :music_whistling:
  6. You can switch them on and off using the Thrustmaster utility program, but they're pretty useless really.
  7. Looks excellent. Is it still being released to coincide with the F/A18C? Card ready!
  8. It's already available globally - it's called unlimited fuel.
  9. To answer the original question regarding how they're controlled - the pilot uses stick and rudder bar to control them.
  10. This subject has been covered in detail elsewhere, so all you need to do is start searching. And no, there is no straightforward "one answer fits all" hence the seemingly unhelpful reply. It isn't unhelpful, but I am afraid you'll need to do a lot of reading to get to the bottom of it all.
  11. The Harrier would never come off best against a dedicated air superiority fighter. But why would they? You might however struggle to engage with an F-15 if your runway was cratered enough that it denied you the use of it. Comparing the Harrier's dogfighting attributes like that is tantamount to comparing the boxing skills of Mohammed Ali with Mr Bean. If you want a sardine sandwich made fresh while sitting on a park bench however... The Harrier has a very specific role, and at that there isn't a single aircraft ever to fly that can best it. It's a bit like expecting a Jeep to win the Le Mans 24 hour. But of course a Corvette wouldn't be much use in climbing a mountain, so like this comparison, it's utterly pointless.
  12. And is it such sage advice to say don't buy anything at all because the next generation stuff will be so much better? There are 2 simple choices. First, current, tried and trusted technology that has some shortcomings. Those shortcomings are well known, and definitely not game breakers. Second, a technology that is basically incomplete, lacking in definite specifications, and riddled with claims that cannot be endorsed by the majority of proponents, and might well be exaggerated. It isn't available yet, and the release date is unknown. So is the Rift advice bad? Is there really any point in waiting for an undisclosed time to pay top whack rates for something very few people have first hand experience of, or pay reduced prices for current technology, and get something now, something you know will work with DCS World, and something that will get results in as long as it takes for delivery? It is a simple choice, buy now, and get into VR, or wait and hope. Sure you may be saving money by waiting, but by the time that second generation stuff arrives, you can guarantee you can make the same argument about waiting another 6-12 months for the 3rd gen, or for Oculus and HTC to come up with their answer to the Pimax. I'd go for the Rift quite frankly.
  13. Deck crew activity, realistic landing aids, usable hangar spaces, and of course the correct alignment systems required for seaborne operations would be top of my list. Also, a manual specifying correct deck landing procedures would be great too. What kind of features are you looking for shagrat?
  14. Agreed, touch screen would be a solution, though when it comes to rotary knobs you might have some problems. Another useful tool is voice activated commands. I have used both methods, but found I always needed a mouse as well. Fundamentally, the mouse isn't something I would remove from my input options - but there is nothing to say it can't be done with some imagination and application.
  15. You think they could put a poll out for all ages from 12 to 90?
  16. Have you tried renaming your saved games installation? That is unaffected by reinstalls and repairs, so it is the most likely culprit now. If it fixes it, you can simply move files back to the new installation until it falls over again, and you'll have saved most of your settings and found the root cause. I hope you resolve it soon.
  17. I'd be very pleased to see this. And also the KC-135 boom adapter. We're also getting a Hercules mod with the AV-8B N/A. An Airbus tanker would be good too. It was on VEAOs dream list, but that's now all gone by the board, so if anyone were to put one together - I for one would be delighted.
  18. Or, with the release of 2.5, we may finally see the P-40? Perhaps there will be a chopper or 2 as well? The Bo-105, and maybe the AH-1 or Mi-24P? I have a feeling we may see more major developers making announcements of their intentions too? The ball is definitely rolling now, so who knows?
  19. Not yet.
  20. Another factor would be how IR missiles interpret any hotspots. I presume the system would be part of the core software, or are we talking about something exclusive to the AV-8B? It's a toughie, and whatever solution is arrived at, it's bound to have limitations. For me, something that renders an image that gives us a typical set of returns, but doesn't necessarily react to what's on the ground may have to suffice. I dread to think what the hit on processing resources might be if there's an algorithm included to calculate what might or might not throw up false returns. I guess it is just a question of what compromise RAZBAM feel is appropriate.
  21. Hate to be controversial here, but I have had my Warthog for years, and never had an issue with sticktion or the least need to grease it. That is after a total of in excess of 1000 hours of use. I often wonder if there is a perception of issues because of some genuine cases making other people assume they also have a problem. A simple remedy may just be to get stick extension tubes, and to leave the internals well alone. Just a thought...
  22. Are you aware that there is a Strait of Hormuz map under development? Kind of negates the need for your desert map, wouldn't you agree? What happened in Southern Italy/Libya in the 60s? I am also at a loss to think what relevance Kuril Island might have apart from being in a different game. Might I suggest the Korean peninsula, South China Seas and the Baltic for potential future conflict zones, or maybe the Balkans for recent past with Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia where shots were fired? And with the Vietnam map, why not Cambodia and Laos instead of Thailand?
  23. I don't think the Tiger is a particularly well known airframe. It does tick boxes as far as flexibility is concerned, but when you compare it to the other helicopters it is up against, it falls short of being the right choice. I also think it would attract far less sales than other more widely used, and better known examples.
  24. Best news I have had all year!
