  1. First thing I'm going to do is stall, hit the thrust reversers and attempt backwards flight
  2. +2 Although it is possible the manual being finished is one of those left over issues barring release
  3. All good points, but I disagree with The remark about needing to know electronics to own a Warthog. Not the case. It will last every bit as long as any other stick with no maintenance besides keeping it clean. The very fact that you can crack it open to fix it years down the road due to its high quality components only speaks to its value, as a cheaper stick this would not be possible.
  4. Welcome to the sim! The MiG 21 is a very challenging but rewarding plane to fly, good choice! Be ready to stick with it as after your first landing attempt you'll be wondering what the heck you've got yourself into! It will all be worth it. Here are a few brief answers to your questions 1. I think the all around consensus on flight sticks is the HOTAS WARTHOG by Thrustmaster. It is a copy of an A-10C Stick and throttle, and is wonderful with the A-10 module, but lends itself incredibly well to all DCS modules. I own one and swear by it. They run around 250 for the stick only, and 399+ For the stick and throttle. It's steep, I know, but worth it IMHO. Under that you will have other options like the Saitek/Madcatz X series (sadly that company is on hard times) and the Thrustmaster and CH product stick lines. Check reviews and remember you will get what you pay for. I know you said you don't want a three piece set up but I HIGHLY encourage a stick, throttle and ruder pedal set up for the proper experience. I use a pair of CH pro pedals. 2. You can get a head tracking device from Natural point. It is called a TrackIR. I use the current production model, the TrackIR5. They run about 150 but I cannot recommend it enough for sim flying unless you later decide to go with the upcoming VR technology. 3. This depends on your intent. I would probably recommend a bigger monitor than that for a good experience, but you can certainly start there. Are you planning on trying to split the sim between the two monitors, or use one for instruments or checklists and the other for your view? Lots of ways to go here. I currently use a 40 inch Samsung as my main display, and a second monitor for avoinic export of radar displays and such. Works very well! 4. It does sound like your GPU is a bit old. I think DCS world 1.5 and 2.0 recommend a 700 series Nvidea or higher which can be had pretty cheap now, but check the minimum and recommended specs on the DCS home page to get a better idea. I'll differ to better GPU experts on this point. Again welcom aboard, and keep the questions coming as long as you need! Send me a PM if you would like to jump on multiplayer sometime and get an introduction to the MiG or the sim in general.
  5. Go for it. I think we got some time to kill and the devs are pretty quiet here, probably because they are trying to get the bird done. I'm just wondering if sense it didn't make it out this week if that means it'll hit 2.0 first, sense 1.5 and 2.0 tend to swap update weekends. Wouldn't mind being able to take her up on NTTR for the first flight, although merged versions hopefully aren't too far off.
  6. Bummer. From the looks of that teaser looks like a lot of work went to waste there :/ Always wondered what happened to Cortex. As far as the ED hornet, yea hopefully out this years like everyone said
  7. Yea, on the software side the flight sim and combat genre is doing well. I'm just concerned about the future of sim controls :/ And I know the feeling- if I get some days off I pretty much count on that meaning the module I'm wanting won't release. It'll drop the day I go back to work! (Happened with Mirage, L-39ZA, MiG 15 and 21)
  8. I suspect an announcement with a few days of pre sale at a special price. Maybe a week? We will see
  9. Good kill man! Every kill in the MiG is very rewarding
  10. God I hope so. This thing looked darn good when Wags previewed it in November and that was four months ago. Imagine what it's like now.
  11. I would agree, we have little idea what we are looking at, but that may be the blocker. I also agree that the Russians aren't stupid. They use a different approach to problems than the USA, and don't have the luxury of throwing trillions of dollars at a problem until it goes away. Having a different or even simpler approach doesn't make them wrong, just different. The Russians have made some amazing aircraft with that line of thinking. Either way it's kind of interesting to me that one particular authority in the U.S. aviation field thinks the whole stealth thing is kind of a joke anyway. I guess only time will tell how important it really will be in future warfare. My bet is better sensor, SA due to battle space technology, and weapons will surpass stealth ability (if they haven't already)
  12. OMG just release. We are dying here man
  13. Call sign: Ramsey Squadron: Lonewolf Location: USA Aircraft: SU-25T Rules: Understood and acknowledged
  14. Message to group appears to be borked in 2.0 at least
  15. I highly doubt ED or its moderators will tolerate such activity on the ED forums

    I-16

Hopefully this won't go dead on us, been very interested in this mod
  17. Very good points, I totally understand where you come from. I'll probably continue to buy betas because I'm not very patient, but I couldn't help but be amused the other day when I loaded up DCS and noticed that most of my module icons on the bottom screen have "beta" at the end of there name. Some have had it for YEARS?! Lol The L-39 is a good example of how release should go, I would agree.
  18. If I remember correctly (not at my PC now) DCS repair is under the /bin folder in your root directory. If you cannot find DCS repair anywhere in the game files then perhaps your install did not go correctly and you need a reinstall? It should be there for sure
  19. Hmmm. Have you tried running DCS Repair? Almost sounds like your update didn't go correctly
  20. Yea I'm sure they are cosmetic only. No real loss, though, as I would have never trusted the wire cutters on my Chinook to actually cut wires. They were dull and covered in many layers of paint, I had a hard time envisioning a cable, especially some of the really thick power cable, being cut before major damage occurred. I think the best case is to simply NOT hit the wires LOL
  21. Yea, this is simply the way it is. Drogue chutes, like a lot of aircraft systems, has pros and cons. The pro being ease of maitainance, lack of brake wear and cheap to replace. The con of course being the fact that you now have a huge and potentially dangerous aerodynamic force acting on the aircraft while landing. I can tell you from my days in the Airborne that parachutes and dangerous and temperamental things! As far as landing with stuff on the pylons. I will have to look at the manual but many aircraft have restrictions about what you can land with pertaining to ordinance and fuel.
  22. :pilotfly: Based on the self imposed criteria for announcing as per Cobra in prior posts, and the fact that the Viggen fell behind the ancitipated year of announcement and release, I don't think LNS would have or will announce the Viggen until it's pretty much done. I think that's been the idea from the onset really. I don't think the leak made any real difference except ease some community frustrations  FWIW Cobra please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I know LNS I do not think I am :)
  23. I bet to differ on your last point, I bet the leak had no bearing on announcement plans. We will still be in the dark hanging out on the speculation thread without it, I assure you :)
  24. I'll let Aviodev give the for sure response but it looked very much like an optical sight with depression settings to me, like the L-39ZA
  25. Outstanding! This is where a full switch by switch 4th gen fighter really starts to shine! It challenges the pilots work load management ability which will set pilots apart. Great job, Razbam, this aircraft is coming along incredibly well and I haven't regretted buying into the beta for a second. Keep up the great communication!
