ryzen competes in 4K gaming and everything else in the same sense that a 4770K does... that it's not the best, not even close to the best, but still useable, not bad, pretty good for the price even, but not even close to the best, especially if you ignore price... until there's a videocard that can peg the fastest CPU out there at 4K, no cpu competes at 4K gaming, the videocard has to be fast enough to make the cpu the slower part first, then 4K gaming can have cpu competitions... in other words, the videocard has to be waiting on the cpu... right now it's the cpu waiting on the videocard, so even an i3 running 4K can get nearly the same score as an i7 at 4K... heck even an old AMD FX chip gets nearly the same scores at 4K... in other words, untill there's a GPU out there that 4K acts like 1080p does on these CPUs, it's a GPU competition at 4K, and CPUs play no part in any 4K competitions...

hes comparing the FX 8350 to a non overclocked 2500k... and any benchmark where the fps is = with two different cpus is GPU bottlenecked, so what you're seeing is the graphics cards benchmark, not the processors... no two cpus are the exact same, even comparing two 1800Xs the fps difference will be slightly different if you're seeing the processors limit, and not the graphics card. i wish they'd show the benchmarks for a 7700K@5Ghz instead of stock... also that battlefield benchmark they don't show the cpu frequency, and the gpu is running at 2050mhz on the 1800X and 2038 on the 7700K, plus the 7700ks gpu is using 110mb more memory, so is probably at higher graphics settings... and has 2ms less latency...
-
and don't forget the fact that the 7700K can easily hit 5GHz. also you're assuming every single game uses multithreading, and that SMT really isn't working correctly, lets wait a few months and then we'll see if it's AMD just saying things. also, games now are often coded to make better use of intel cpus, and it takes a while, if they ever do, for people to start making games for other cpus (unless they're paid to specifically make it work better on that one line of cpus)... think about what happened with Mantle... DCS doesn't even use multithreading so SMT doesn't do anything...

until a better GPU comes out... see... at 1440p and 4K, it's the GPU that's too slow... in 1 year, maybe 2, that won't be the case...

yeah, I'm mostly wanting to build a whole new machine anyway, this one just doesn't cut it since I've been trying to livestream and such, and if im going to build a new machine i'm going to get the best i can, and i'll use this 2600K dedicated to just streaming, offload all that from my gaming machine... the 1800X seems good if you like streaming while playing on the same machine... but since i do already have a good computer, the 7740K + my current computer will give much better performance, the IPC of the 7740K + not running an encoder and streaming while im trying to play games...
-
The 7740K is coming out in a few months, looks like a 7700K but on LGA2066 with quad channel memory and also 24 pcie lanes, also ability to use much higher end ram... kinda disappointed in the ryzen lineup, going from this computer to a ryzen build is totally not worth it, I could build a 7700K machine for the same price, and just use this 2600K machine dedicated to streaming and encoding. I was going to build a 7700K machine until the 7740K was mentioned.

Am I crazy? Is the A-10C learning curve too steep for first plane?
Hadwell replied to Burgo38's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I learned the KA-50 first, then the A-10C, the A-10C isn't really that hard to learn, just hard to set up the controls on the HOTAS initially, and memorizing what the hat switches are called, after that, doing the tutorials and youtube makes it pretty easy... -
the official announcement finally happened... https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/nvidia-gtx-1080-ti-release-date looks like they're expecting something big from AMD to make a top end Ti card less than 1000$

the easiest way is to get shot at and follow the tracers or smoke trail, maybe ask someone else to get shot at instead of yourself... other than that, the only real way is to make good use of the Shkvals zoom function...

AMD going top end depends on overclocking headroom, being able to beat a 7700K at stock speeds means nothing, as it pretty easily hits 4.9GHz and stays stable, even with super high end ram... Where i see the ryzen cpus being useful is for the mainstream gamer that likes to stream to youtube or twitch while they play their not DCS games... DCS is mostly single-threaded, so if money isn't an issue best wait for the 7740K and see what that clocks to... and this is a DCS forum, so everything I'd talk about is first and foremost with DCS context...

keep your throttle up to 80-90% and you can land anywhere up to 400kph, even on the current version, though around 320kph it's easier... the reason you break your gear is you're throttling down too much before all 3 wheels are on the ground...

Love the Black shark but is it worth getting the Gazzel?
Hadwell replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
the KA-50 can't carry any a-a weapons, but it can carry 12 vikhr missiles, can also carry 2xKH-25ML long range missiles, it can carry conventional and cluster bombs, as well as 4 kinds of 80mm rockets, 122mm rockets, and dual 23mm gun pods, the built-in non-fixed, head tracking cannon also carrys HE and AP ammo, selectable by a switch in the cockpit. -
Love the Black shark but is it worth getting the Gazzel?
Hadwell replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The KA-50 is basically a tank turret that flys, and instead of a big cannon, it has laser guided missiles and a 30mm cannon on a swivel that follows your head around.. with the ka-50 and auto-hover and auto-turn on, all you need to do is look at something, the entire helicopter will automatically point at the target, the gun will drop in elevation and skew to point directly where your looking, and your laser guided missiles will fire. the gazelle on the other hand, while it has wire guided missiles (only 2) and a camera, other than auto-hover, you need to fully manually control everything... -
it only has one M.2 slot because the ryzen CPUs only have 24 pci-e lanes, also they don't have built-in graphics like the intel chips do, so not much reason to have a hdmi/displayport connector... socket 1151 has 20 pcie lanes... Really if you want a lot of I/O you'll wanna get a socket 2011 CPU, they have up to 40 pcie lanes... it looks like you might be confused as to what the VRM is... it's basically the powersupply for the CPU, it makes sure the CPU is getting a constant extremely clean power source, so the better the VRM, generally the more stable your cpu is.

the end of Saitek game controllers...
Hadwell replied to fitness88's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Logitech sells their X56, I imagine they'll also sell saiteks other products just under logitech branding soon™ -
yeah, I'm also getting this problem, on multiple servers, and that fix didn't work.

i7/i5 vs gpu and bottlenecking
Hadwell replied to gavagai's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm using a 2600K... looking at a Z270 chipset build with a 7700K, i hear they pretty easily get to 5GHz, some up to 5.2GHz, 16GB 4266 DDR4 ram an m.2 SSD, plus a GTX1080 should be over all better enough to make it worth an upgrade... but it's about a 3000$ build... i don't think it's worth upgrading from an i5 2500k if you're not going to get at least what im looking at... and yes, i'm waiting for the new amd cpus to become available, hopefully bring intel prices down a bit... -
I just run the open beta version, only go back to older versions if the current open beta version is too buggy. the majority of multiplayer servers use the open beta version, so it doesn't make sense to use the stable client... when the open beta client is too buggy, the multiplayer servers usually roll back too. in other words the stable client is like a backup version, if the newest version is too buggy, and that's rarely the case.

GHz still > everything? Wait for RYZEN?
Hadwell replied to Asset's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
GHz has never been > than IPC... a 5GHz AMD CPU (non ryzen) is way slower than a 4.5GHz I7... how much a cpu can get done in 1 clock cycle is more important than how many clock cycles per second... I will wait for some benchmarks on ryzen, and if it's good, I'll try one, but I'm currently waiting for the 7700K i7... real life hard facts are more important than fanboyism, so anyone who says AMD is even remotely close to intel in IPC at the moment ignores the majority of benchmarks, and real hard facts, only looks at the few and far between benchmarks that make AMD look close... -
I have my standards, but I'll buy a plane because it's new I am totally uninterested in trainer planes, I'm not interested in turbo prop planes either because they're just A-10s basically, but WW2 planes like the spitfire are awesome, same with new and old fighter jets.

Trackclip Pro: Go or NO-GO?
Hadwell replied to 5e EVC Chappy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
the track clip pro is sooo much better than the reflective tape, but like others have said, weak plastic, mine is more superglue than plastic now, but you can get the dimensions and build your own with a resistor and some wide angle IR LEDs, or there are pre-made alternatives pretty cheap on ebay -
is gtx 1080 overkill on an ASUS P8P67 Mobo?
Hadwell replied to dooom's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
no the 1080 isn't overkill for a 2600K at 4.4ghz, I run it at 4.6ghz. there are only a half a dozen games out there that make the cpu bottleneck, but those games bottleneck all cpus... -
the F-5 is closer to the mig-15 than the mig-21... and in actuality, the mig-15 is better except in top end speed... and getting and keeping the f-5 at those high speeds while actually doing anything is pretty difficult, it bleeds speed so well... you can easily turn fight an F-5 with the mig-15, and the F-5 can't get away unless he straitens out and gives the mig-15 a clean shot. it's really easy to understand why the F-5 was never really that popular, except as a trainer and light attack plane for smaller countries.

yeah the radar keeps crashing my client, and slide-show fps for me too.
