How do I get the aircraft carrier to look like this?
David OC replied to John Hargreaves's topic in Mission Editor
There is a template mission file around here somewhere? Cannot find it:cry: You can always open up one of the Case 1 missions under the f-18 quick start missions and save it back to "MY missions" area so it doesn't get updated when updating the core sim. Then you can see how it's done and modify this to your liking or use as is. -
I'm incapable of detecting and countermeasure incoming missiles
David OC replied to kunterbunt's topic in DCS 2.9
We fly these sims for the fun of flying etc. IRL these are very expensive weapon platforms and the pilots should know how to use it to the best of it's capabilities. This means not only learning your aircraft and it's weapons well, but also your adversaries aircraft and weapons. I also use Tacview to look at what happen and why I was killed a lot.:helpsmilie: Lots of practice, watch video's and read.:) This is a video showing in sim and the tactics of notching, with tacview on the right. Great read here --> DCS F-15C Combat Guide for Beginners Download this for the Su-27 -
Live kick off nvidia 20xx cards
David OC replied to boedha68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Let us know how it go's with your 4790k when you get it, or are you going to upgrade the CPU before? It will be ok perhaps....? The only problem is feeding it, if the GPU gives you 30% extra. The 4790k would be pushing it now in DCS with a 1080ti. The 4790 should be enough once Vulkan api arrives, we just don't know when that will be and how long it will take ED to optimize etc. -
There is no limiting factor when it comes to 3rd parties building civi aircraft, except perhaps the potential sale figures, data and licensing. The Yak on the other hand was a commercial project first, that was released for consumer use in a deal as a discounted build cost possibly? I.E. They recoup some $ on the consumer side forever and that would be configured into the build price. Third parties can do the same with ED etc. Belsimtek is now apart of ED.

This is all very new tech and not very matured, I'm sure ED will look at it all from a long term perspective once matured and integrated into Vulkan. Some could be easier to implement and utilize than others. ED could even use some of this power for next gen in game AI perhaps...? We should just let ED get this great looking graphics core they have now all sorted with vulkan and I'm sure they will look into this new tech down the road. I hope it all go's smoothly, I copied this chart together so others can see the old and new side by side.. It's from this old talk "Vulkan - The Future of High Performance Graphics" At time 27:28

We need to know what your card is doing? I can easily hold 45 fps and up to 90 when not need city's etc. I hit VR preset turn the textures to high, view to high and have the PD set at 1.6. You also have to be careful to not play large mission, otherwise these settings will need to be turned down a notch here and there. Make sure in Afterburner your GPU is running at 100% It should not look like this pic, if it does your CPU is not feeding the GPU quick enough, it should stay 100% all the time.

who what when where and why :D A little more info would be good to understand what might be going on. What were you doing when the battery was off? Did you leave the lights on again when parked.:music_whistling:

I'm guessing it cannot be a keybind "bound" to the HOTAS? Never noticed and not at home to check at the moment. I have always use the backspace and O command inside CH manager, well until I update my stick.

What aircraft are you trying to dogfight Doum76? The quick F-18 missions are random skill, I open these in the editor and change them to hard. You can start on easy.:D Start with guns only and keep her at 360 to 400 kts in the hud, yes the AI can be tricky and seem to defy Gravity at times. I've been meaning to do a quick video showing this, if I get time later I may post a quick one.

I can see CA getting a good polish up when resources allow. That alone will be great, more VR support etc. I think once this gets more polished and playable, ED can then decide if it's worth expanding the into high fidelity CA. For now tho, just expand the assets to work as FC3 / CA3 modern tank combat? etc A real chess type of game would be good here, it wouldn't be as easy picking off tanks when you have people in Tor's and tunguska's hiding in the trees + air assets + teamspeak = ambush, well that's where I would be waiting hidden LOL.:D I think they should just focus now on the pliability of it all and not just high fidelity items, unless that becomes an option further down the road.

DX 12 = ONLY Windows 10 .....$#% Windows  can poff Not going to happen, the biggest improvement will be handing off the graphics and then utilizing CPU for scale, think "large missions" or "Large DC" and better AI with less impact and still holding 60+ frames. This is going to take a little time for ED to optimize to get this all going right "Balance", it is the right direction to go I believe. You have a very good system, guy's with lesser PC's I think will see more benefit here as they will not be limited by single core performance as much as we are now.

upgrade intel i7 4790k to Intel i7-7820X
David OC replied to Lenux's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If we are lucky we might see something by the end of the year. Seeing you have a 1080ti, I would make sure it's maxed out, otherwise your not feeding it enough with your CPU. I went with the 7700K at the time and it's enough to fed a 1080ti at 100% with no zig zag What does you GPU chart look like when running DCS? Like the pic above? If it looks like the pic above you need a better CPU + overclock for the 1080ti. You will need to decide on the direction to go + what happens with Vulkcan, decisions decisions. Ask BitMaster...LOL;) You could go AMD and do a good cheaper build, depending on what else you play as we might not need such high single core speeds and from what I've seen around here the amd 2700x etc is more than enough to fed the 1080ti. I would like to know if the 1700 is also good enough to match up to a 1080ti, anyone? I would say possibly yes with Vulkcan + once optimized. -
upgrade intel i7 4790k to Intel i7-7820X
David OC replied to Lenux's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would wait and see what happens when Vulkan is added before doing anything, your 1080ti will be doing a lot more work I'm thinking... "then you start to have FPS and GPU usage drops" -
I just took the Spitfire up and it's not bad I guess. I think it could be one or two notches to far now on the greasy side, of say 5 notches. Unless it's one of those really greasy runways.

The the video was about the tire bite, nothing to do with anything else. The side loading lifted the wheel off the ground in that video. This one's better Right at the end, there is a little slip and he is fighting it.

Use google chrome or Firefox if not already.:) Also have a clean up and clear the browser history.

Nvidia RTX cards and DCS - ?
David OC replied to 0414 Wee Neal's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I may need SkateZilla for this one... Would this be a major change to go from what ED uses now, deferred shading etc to utilizing this NEW technology at some point? Would this be more like DCS 3.5 to have RTX and upcoming Vulkan ray tracing API for DCS. Don't get me wrong here, DCS looks great and Vulkan should give us a nice buffer I hope with larger missions or dynamic missions. I'm just interested what steps ED would have to take to utilize this tech in the future with the direction they have gone now. Vulkan ray-tracing video recording of the session or PDF slides. EDIT Is it worth going there just because "Nvidia thinks we should" and will it make a game / sim all that much better. -
That's what I do, the first time I saw that was from . Testing out the GBU's in one of the new DCS build's. I turn the latch on here when quickly marking points. The GBU's seem fairly accurate to me.... Have you tried dropping multiple JDAM's with one pass Biga42? JDAM's are great if you only want to overfly a target once and hit many targets, by creating mark points for each target and switching to each one when in the drop zone gives each bomb it's own target.:)

Live kick off nvidia 20xx cards
David OC replied to boedha68's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I will wait and see some REAL benchmarks in DCS, that's all I'm mainly interested in anyway, if DCS is good the driving sims I use will be very good. I want a good experience in DCS and will pay and lose money to have that, it's part of the cost of this hobby. I'm still pushing DCS quite high now and still running an older 7700K with a 1080ti. Vulkan should help allow larger missions and if I can hold good 50/60+ fps on high graphics settings I'm very happy. The only reason I would upgrade now, is when the ASUS etc 2080ti's are out and they can hold 90 fps all the time in the rift or if the new rift 2 was out and I needed more power to run it in DCS. -
Be able to drop multiple weapon types on the one advanced action
David OC replied to Stonehouse's topic in DCS Core Wish List
It's for accuracy, these days we don't just go and level 5 city blocks to try and hit a one ammo dump. :D and still miss. What your talking about is carpet bombing and the reason was because the accuracy was crap and a waste of ammo too. The Viggen era is more designed to do the one pass haul ass, still I'm quite sure you can only have the one ammo type to drop all at once. It comes down to the computers knowing the ballistics of said dumb ordnance and very accurately delivering that type onto a target CCIP etc. The next type is of course smart ordnance or dumb bomb with a kit, the computer will still tell you when to drop to get it in the ball park, then the laser/GPS and bomb with kit will do the rest for better accuracy. I would also reevaluate your tactics here perhaps? Depending on the setting your after? If you have a carrier group you know how accurate a tomahawk is right or perhaps try a Viggen fully loaded. -
+ the option to bomb the power station(s) to turn them off:D

Make sure user snap view save is on Pause track IR, recenter view Num5, center zoom NumEnter Move the view back, forward, up, down and change zoom Num/ and Num* Save Press RAlt+Num0 Yours doesn't look to bad tho.. Here is mine at FOV 85 on a 27inch screen to get the scale close, 75 is more correct but to close, to see the FOV Left Ctrl + pause twice All my view controls are on my HOTAS for easy zooming and view reset.

Try also adjusting the seat position forward and back, then set the zoom level and save.
