They still deserve a some credit for sticking with their/our passion in this small niche, that's also the most high tech on many levels. It's no Western, $US 725 million in three days LOL, wow......

I've said this before somewhere here... When DCS becomes "DCS world", they should use the sat images "Think Ortho4xp" and build a system to auto place the correct bridges, houses on top of the high rez images etc. This would be a quick way to flush out a map. Someone now went and did just that it seems... This would be a lot more work "System" for something like DCS of course. As you would need special AI routing, logistics etc. These things would need to be setup by hand I guess.

You can see the two : next to what you have selected, here I have hold altitude, auto throttle and heading hold on. Turning the heading selector knob? It's a switch, what knob are you taking about.

Make sure you also let 2 off the leash and (engage bandits). Try not to rush into it either after launching, let 2 get in position near you. The ships will also fire as they get close, go after the 29's first if I remember the mission correctly.

I don't think all the missiles have been updated? DCS 2.5.3.22652 Open Beta AIM-9M/L major FM update. Adjusted lift and drag curves, motor performance, DLZ One of the big problems was the navigation systems/missile logic, it was turning to much at distance causing to much drag when a target was defending.

ATC for case 3 is being worked on discwalker. You will be given final bearing and approach time only, once the ATC is done. See this chart https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=216331 For now go off this chart and offset yourself using TACAN see video below.

The main ones that you generally need are all there. If not, you will need to assign them a keyboard key or bind them directly to your controller. I use a mix of CH manager and direct bind. Export all the keys for a module.

I see so many questions that is not right for this time.
David OC replied to macedk's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The way I see, you should post in the main F-18 section to ask about something to see if it's possibly not right after doing a little research. Perhaps one of the former F/A-18 pilots/ testers will answer the question. If it is a bug or needs changing one of the moderators/testers will move it and mark it for testing or check it themselves. These guy's build list and prioritize the show stopper bugs for ED and if anything needs to be looked at and corrected. ED will push the F/A-18 right up to the limit around 95%, just like the A-10C. Wags is the gate keeper here for any classified info that gets around. He mentioned how much info is around if you look in the right places on his last interview and that 5% will not be in the sim for many reasons. Most things can be very accurate tho, it's only the full capabilities of EW, ECM, missile decoy tolerance etc. Many things can be modeled using cfd to workout performance and get it "very close". Like the aim-54 for the F-14, we know it's shape, fuel and motor, you can get pretty close performance accuracy then with enough info for the DCS physics/math engine. Just remember there are former F/A-18 pilots helping ED and they want this to be good, just like it was when they flew the real thing. Not much will get past these guy's I think. It will take some time tho at this level of sim for the F/A-18 to mature into that 95% spot. -
Single engine APU restart with single throttle controller?
David OC replied to sgilewicz's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I use CH gear and use the CH software, still working for me but it's not needed. Like mvsgas has said, assign the left hand far left throttle pinky as a (modifier button) in DCS, you will not be able to use this button for anything else. Now when this is held down you can assign anything to all the buttons on both the stick and the throttle (again) doubling your control assignments. Below is the profile my setup is based off. This file is for CH manager tho and you wont need that, there's also a PDF of the button setup in the file, you may want to take a look at the button and shifted button layout for ideas. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/38412/ -
Cancel trim? You trim for on speed when landing and rarely trim when in flight unless a the aircraft is not symmetrical because of loadout etc.

moving map makes HSI unreadable - any solutions?
David OC replied to nickos86's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Not quality, they go for accuracy. Apparently many pilots do turn off the map by hitting the mode OSB button twice on the left hand side. That's what I do anyway. -
As HiJack has pointed out, this is the way for you to do it. Have someone install DCS completely (Not just download the installer). Copy this whole install to a disk drive and send it to you. You do not need to "install DCS" and can copy and paste DCS to the C drive, then locate the launch links in the bin folder and it will run. The computer you have is an old cad work station, not sure how it will go for these new sims. You also need to make sure you are running window 7 (64bit) NOT 32 Go to --> control panel / system See --> System type Minimum system requirements (LOW graphics settings): OS 64-bit Windows 7/8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Intel Core i3 at 2.8 GHz or AMD FX; RAM: 8 GB (16 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 60 GB; Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 / AMD R9 280X or better; requires internet activation. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/stable/ Everything is now online and through companies like steam, even more so in this small niche, as the cost to have CD and books etc sitting on shelves is expensive to do. .

I was just going through the input output / home cockpit thread the other day and saw this by Blue73. wow, what a cool design. All modular running Arduino Nano's as Slaves to one Arduino Mega as master with DCSBIOS. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=219982

Nice one Pizzicato, I too very much enjoy coming home and go on a relaxing flight in DCS on screen or in VR or if I want to let off some steam, setup a battle.:) It still blows me away what we can do now in this sims. The tech is just cRazy cool... I'm quite sure everyone at ED very much likes to hear these types of stories coming from the community, it's part of what helps them drive this sim forward. Keep your chin up Pizzicato:thumbup:

TrackIR not as smooth in 2.5 as 2.2 and 1.5.8
David OC replied to Jacks's topic in Game Performance Bugs
It wouldn't be the same team that work on modules, maps or AI that have been working on this engine for the last few years. If you pulled coders or engineers off to first learn where the team is at with testing, changes and bugs etc. You would go way backwards to bring everyone up to speed. Just throwing coders at it, doesn't mean it will get bugs fixed and optimized quicker. Plus these guy's are also working on Vulkan a new tech for ED and this team. Perhaps Vulkan will be like skynet and squash all the bugs.;) -
Question on a new build I am doing
David OC replied to dburne's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's the way I went dburne Windows 10 on the M.2 Nvme 500 GB Apps on 500GB SSD X 2 No mechanical drives or even a disk drive as windows was on a usb stick. Nice and clean for good airflow. The 2 X SSD attached at the rear of the case nicely hidden. You can see one of the choices of a large 8 drive stack in the pic below, very configurable case. -
You want to hold 45 fps with ASW if you can for smooth game play and decent looks. What settings have you got set in game sinuos? I hit the VR preset button, then up the view distance to high, textures to high and a PD of 1.5. Even with that, I have ups and downs below 45 on large missions etc. That's my starting point.

Doesn't need to be perfect Jetguy06 Keep generally a bank of 25 degrees at 250kts when in the five-mile circuit. Use your carrier TACAN station and set the scale to 10 so you can see how far way you are in the HUD. I also have the HSI up on the left DDI, just a preference of mine tho so I can see where I'm at and close to the correct positioning etc. http://www.csgnetwork.com/aircraftturninfocalc.html

New build hardware recommendations?
David OC replied to JG-1_Vogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That is a bit to much really, compared to the below. I would shop around and check a few other places. -
Just plan to have Aerial refueling available for this gas guzzler;), to keep all the options open. Would be good to have something in combatflite, I think he has done enough with that software tho;) you can get plenty of planing info from it. Then use http://www.courier-critic.co.uk/fa18c/

Here is a good example of the rockets being fired lol. Close.... bit embarrassing really.... or at 2:37 on the video below.
-
There not that accurate, they even developed laser guided one's because of this. You wouldn't use rockets for danger close firing, well that's what some Apache pilots were saying in the books I've read.

is there a way to disable the landing-by-throttle thing?
David OC replied to Larkis's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I was thinking the model may be off pitching up so much? Watching that video I don't think it is off, just an interesting way to get her back to on speed in level flight without forcing the nose over. I know many here are have problems coming out of the break slow enough to be on speed and do the ballooning thing. (Hold the nose level if you have to:)) That comes back to not pulling enough G's thou the break and getting the gear and flaps out by the 90 degree mark, so as you come out wings level you are at the 140ish kts mark and starting to trim out on speed. Any higher and your going up lol. Thanks for the reply S.
