  1. Thanks, Trev. Just to be sure, the only way to use the F is with the boresight method I was using?
  2. First flight with the F: Designated with WPDSG yet the seeker drifts. Undesgnated with NWS and re-caged. Uncaged again with boresight near some target. Ground stabilized. Slew disabled. Needed to press lock target AND slew at the same time. Slew was crazily wild. Caged the seeker, lined up a target with boresight until the target was inside the seeker's crosshair (must be very precise and within 6 miles.) Uncage, get the lock indication, Rifle!. Next MavF online, seeker near (or on) previously locked target but NOT locked, not stabilized. FOV is automatically reset to wide zoom. Selected FOV to narrow again. Move boresight to next target (Very difficult to do unless very steady.) Uncage, get lock indication, Rifle again!. Rinse, repeat. Today, while trying again, I got no cursor slew at all. ONLY got boresight method as above. I had played with the cursor slew mapping (TM Warthog) on my nipple cursor/target lock on the throttle. I probably screwed up the mapping somehow. Still, the boresight method works providing you get the WHT HOT target directly into the tiny space of the cross hairs. If the lock is slightly off in the DDI crosshairs, undesignate, re-acquire, and re-designate. Then Rifle. Obviously, this is a bug. But... Yep... it's early access. I'm still happy with ED. For those at ED that are listening, is there a way to get a warning if the autopilot disengages on its own? Secondly, your aileron trim ONLY works by key input. It will not reset if manually trimmed. FCS reset does not work. TO Trim does not reset either (Didn't try with WOW.)
  3. No. The Reset FCS does not reset the trim to zero while flying. If you move the trim left or right, the only way to get it back to zero is to move the trim manually. If you are asymmetrical due to loadout, and you trim to level flight, then you drop some the loadout, your trim will still be set for the asymmetry. You need to retrim again. If you are asymmetrical and jettison all your stores, you must retrim manually, as well. This, I would imagine is a DCS Hornet bug.
  4. That's got to be just off the coast of NAS Jax in the Jacksonville Fleet Concentration Area. I did a couple of months carrier quals on the Forrestal many years ago. That was back when the VP squadrons were all trying to go to the new (at the time) Charlies (P-3C). I never knew they could carry Mav's. Harpoons, yes. Nice video. Opposed to DCS, the Mav in the video was not locked with a flashing cursor but WAS locked with a solid cursor. (Not that it matters. Just a bit odd to see it.) It seems to me that the Mav's trajectory looks like it was curving left. I believe this is because the chase plane was bracketing left for tracking angle. What was all that yellow? Marker powder?
  5. I'll try that. I'm not sure I tried it yesterday.
  6. Thanks.
  7. I don't recall why, but I needed to get off the catapult after I was on it and the JBD's were up. Is there a way to disconnect and return to parking?
  8. I unfold wings, pressed FCS reset, then Takeoff Trim. I clear the master caution but the check trim warning stays on the DDI. Is this a bug?
  9. Thank you for your post. I'm behind you 100% just as always. Take your time and do it right. I am extremely happy with the Hornet and will be even happier when it gets a good update. Cheers!

Well, let me weigh in on this discussion. Many years ago, I was a systems analyst as well as teaching it (back in the early 80's when Cobol and Fortran were the popular things for coding). I never ever let a bit of software out to a customer that hadn't been thoroughly debugged. We guaranteed it. A simple inventory system that took several months to code also took well over a year to test, debug, document, and finally trial run on test data at the client's system before the client even thought about running it on live data. We simply did not have a bug. Ever. We could not afford it. Our entire reputation depended on the fact that what we said would work, did work. Because our software was flawless, and advertised as such, our reputation went viral and our company made a fortune. I moved on into AI research. Today, we have beta releases, closed beta releases, open beta releases, early access, and, I believe I even saw some company offering a pre-alpha game (although I believe it was offered for free.) Nonetheless, today, it is what it is. The thing that causes me to shake my head is exactly what moco pointed out. ED's announcements are extremely frustrating to its customers. I, too, can wait an extra week, month, or even year. But if you tell me you will have something for me next month, when that month comes about, I get a bit cynical when nothing comes out to me. Give me a fully functional Hornet (as my first company would have back in the 80's) or, if this is the way its got to be today, give me pieces of a Hornet. But don't wave a carrot in front of me and then pull it away.

A complaint Well, I submitted a complaint several months ago and nobody is addressing it: I loaned my CF-18 to an American newbie a while ago and he tried to land on the Stennis. He did land, of course, but now my seat smells like pee. I asked ED if they would change the seat cushion but nobody has answered. I'm afraid I am just going to have to take my pocket knife and rip the cushion out myself and put in a new one. Will this void my warranty? Other than that, I love my Hornet.
  13. Okay, guys (and girls), I spent an hour last night trying to figure out the key bindings problem. I think I have it understood now. The correction should be about 10 to 15 minutes of your time if done as I did (eventually) last night. Keep your bindings as they are. Do the update. (It's short this time.) Enter the sim and go to the key bindings page. Go to the Hornet. (I don't know if the other planes/helos are affected because I'm too busy flying to learn the 9-line.) You should see quite a few mappings that are brown (red?) coloured. Change these to what you want them to be. Exit normally from DCS. Do a repair. Reload DCS and, voila, your key bindings should all be okay and there shouldn't be any more brown/red mappings (unless you didn't change the ones still brown/red.) This worked for me. The radar seems to be doing quite well for me. Unfortunately, when undesignating, the TDC cursor still snaps back to the upper left. Other than that, everything works as it should so far. The B-sweep has been reported as being glitchy by stopping. I've seen it but it was rare for me even before the update. As of last night, I spent a half hour playing with the radar, lighting up a tanker off and on. No B-sweep glitch.
  14. For the record, I have every single aircraft that ED has put out from the very first LoMac to all the maps of today and even the Yak 52. I've got almost 100 hours in the Hornet. There are a few aircraft that I've bought twice as well as the A-10C that I bought and gave to my son-in-law. I am just asking questions that will be coming down the line from other prospective customers. As for the Honda reference to the 190, the difference between the two isn't different "cars" but the same car with a different engine and bucket seats versus a bench seat. Different options. Not that it matters to me. I will probably get the A-8 anyway. Just to help support ED.
  15. If I may ask: The A-8 is a Focke-Wulf 190, just like the D-9 is a Focke-Wulf 190, right? Just different versions? How different will the DCS's A-8 be from the D-9? From what I understand, the real life version of the D-9 is longer by 4 feet, has the same wingspan and wing area, is almost 300 lbs heavier when empty but can only take off with about 130 lbs less. While the D-9 has an inverted V-12 compared to the A-8's radial engine, when boosted, the D-9 develops over 2,000 horsepower compared to 1,600 from the A-8's BMW engine. The Dora can do 425 mph versus 410 mph, can fly about the same distance but can fly 1,000 feet higher, as well as climb almost 350 feet per minute faster. The A-8 has a 1.7 hp/lb wing loading advantage meaning it might turn a bit better when pulling hard, but the Dora has about the same power/mass rating (0.18-0.22 hp/lb) They both have the MG 131 machine gun but the A-8 has four versus Dora's two 20 mm cannons. The Dora does carry a 1,000 lb bomb. So, again, if I may ask, why will the A-8 be a separate purchase?
  16. The A-8? In the newsletter, it was mentioned that there is an upcoming release of the 190-A8. Will this be an update to the D-9 or a seperate purchase?
  17. I've been flying the Hornet now for a couple months. There is nothing else like it. LGBs, Mavs, and the radar is still under construction, but my gosh, carrier ops is awesome. I'd stay away from the aerobatics servers to focus on quality time making carrier traps. And, I should warn you, in full simulator mode, the Hornet is a handful. It's based on the real thing... no, I can't say based... I'd say it just about IS the real thing. I had been making consistent traps for a couple weeks now, but always was down to 4,000 lbs fuel and one bag which made the Hornet light and responsive. This morning, I was practicing radar guided attacks and had a full load of 9's, 7's, and 120's with one full bag. I was quite overweight for a carrier trap but didn't care. I dropped the hook on the upwind, pulled 3.5 G's for the break, dirtied up, got the orange donut but needed about 150 kts just to keep at 600 ft above the water. I turned onto the base leg and almost fell out of the sky, managed to line up about 1 nmi out, called the ball, then headed for the water again. Hard on the trottle, I roared past the wires about 50 feet high. I tried again only to almost hit the fantail. Getting the waveoff, I extended out about 3 or 4 miles, jettisoned everything including dead-launching the remaining missiles out of frustration. Now, the plane was light and I trapped as I normally would. The flight dynamics are that realistic. Flying from a land base, even in full simulator mode, is child's play but that carrier is, just as in real life, tough as can be. Yet, people do it! Just needs practice in all the conditions. Would I get a Hornet if I didn't have one already? I'd pay three times what I did months ago. The plane is just that good. Anyway, as you can tell, I love the aircraft.
  18. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5913184/ The history as well as some beautiful modern-day video of such an awesome aircraft I loved it.
  19. Gave me cold chills. Lots of realism, eh?
  20. Just a crash log for you dcs.log-20180816-034425.zip
  21. I created a mission with my IP address which did show up in the server list. People could not join in. I sent the mission to my buddy who also showed up in the server list. People COULD join up (including me.) I am told that my buddy's ISP gives him a static IP address where my ISP gives me a dynamic IP address. At both times, my buddy and I use port forwarding of 10308. I am told that DCS does not use dynamic IP addresses which is why my buddy can run a MP server while I cannot. Is there a way to get my mission on MY machine using MY IP address (which my ISP refuses to give me a static IP address)?
  22. Shooting Sidewinders into the sun does, apparently work. It's time related, though. Shoot at the sun in the morning and it takes about 12 hours to hit the sun and make it go out. Fortunately, it respawns the following day and you can shoot it down again. Try it in the afternoon! It doesn't take so long. Usually only a couple hours. A word of advice, though. It's very difficult to find the sun near the horizon at lunch time. I have researched it for days; it seems that you CAN find the sun near the horizon around lunch time only around the north and south poles, depending on the time of year. However, in summertime at the poles, you just cannot hit the sun with a Sidewinder... not sure why.
  23. Hang on, guys! There's a simple solution to the problem.... "Hey, Scopes! There's a rumble on the forums. They need you, buddy!" He speaks English, French, and when drunk, Pig Latin.
  24. Thank you for your reply. However, I did a complete wipe and reinstall and have been flying the Hornet for about 3 hours (until I got tired.) (From uninstall and reformat and then complete download of 60 GB onto the 500GB SSD to flying the Hornet = 1 hour and a half.) My drive is perfectly okay. (SMART info was included in my post before I uninstalled.) Thanks for your reply, though.
  25. Was told to do a complete reinstall. Beginning the project after a short supper. :(
