  1. Yeah, that's what snagged me to come read. (AMH, '71-'74, P-3C, Keflavik, F-4J, Oceana, CVA-59)
  2. Well, I for one, will get them both. But I am immensely interested in the Christen Eagle. Please, please, keep up the work on this one. I hope the FM will be true to the spirit of this aircraft (and aircraft like her.)
  3. Will there be a TacView of the whole thing published?
  4. Well, I managed to get the F-5 taxiing while Flight waited for me. The, luckily, nose bobbing like crazy, I managed to get flying without crashing. I knew how to get the radar on so I turned it on. GCI told me to turn it off. Next, get the AIM-9 up and running. It was wonderful to hear the familiar growl. I lost my flight within a minute. I checked F10 to make sure I didn't get too close to the no-fly zones only to hear GCI try to get me on the radio. I finally checked in with him who, I think, told me that bandits were at a bearing and were within 10 miles. I wondered, "Merge?" I think I heard him tell someone (me???) that missiles were out. I looked around to see the tracking trails heading for me around 4 o'clock. Defensive. (How to drop tanks???) More incoming.... then I got hit. 20 minutes of preparations, 2 minutes of flight, 15 seconds to figure out I was about to die, then Boom. Oh, how much of an embarrassment I must have been! But... I didn't crash on landing! :music_whistling: I feel bad that a reserve pilot would have done better than I did. I feel that I just didn't have enough training to be a serious help to the competition but, rather, a hindrance. For that, I apologise to everyone. I do thank the 104th and all the pilots for having this competition. Maybe next time, I will do something that I have more experience with.
  5. About 5 years ago I bought TrackIR 4 for my gaming machine which has Windows 7 only. I don't like to fly without it. I have Windows 10 on my other machine and it is a very big mistake. Most drivers for hardware do need to be updated so they will operate correctly with Windows 10. But Windows 10 has many small mistakes, does not work efficiently with external hard drives, takes much user control away from the user. I hate Windows 10. I plan to return to Windows 7 soon. TrackIR has never been a problem on my gaming machine. Setting up the profile is easy. Just be sure to click on the profile "use exclusively" box. 6. I have flown the F-5E now for 2 days. Low speed acceleration is very poor but above 300 kias, she scoots quite well. I have never flown a real F-5 so I can't critique other than what I would wish for. I haven't gotten to the RWR yet so take everyone else's word for it. BVR radar is a mystery to me but that's probably because I fly the F-15 almost exclusively. Heaters are fun to play with: just climb up someone's tail pipe and fire away. You do get two chances! :) Bombing, well, it sucks compared to the A-10C. But, as someone else wrote, it's fun to do if you SOP fly. (I guess I am just spoiled by the F-15 and the A-10.) Flying low through the mountains is an unmatched joy! You can really feel the wind over the wings. Get her up to speed and she's like a hot knife through butter. Her air frame is not only beautiful, but well suited to NOE dashing through the snow. I am like many others out there, I prefer to just fly this little gem. I'm not much into BFM or killing someone. I just like to fly. I'm not like others in that I find landing and taking off to be very simple. But then, I have lots of experience landing difficult aircraft and I have a great joystick (Thanks, TM for the Warthog!) Yes, I felt the ground effect. I figured it was just more accurate modelling. Like I said, I love to just fly this one! The engine sounds are, to me, a bit strange during taxi. The engine spool-ups are weird, too, but I figured it was just more accurate modelling. Hard to tell by sound when the afterburner begins but the instruments tell you. Nice. I can't say how much I like this plane because I love them all. DCS is impossible for me not to like any of the modules. But the F-5 definitely has a personality all her own!
  7. From the DCS F-5E manual, page 141, #6: Armament Position Selector Switches Selects respective pylons and wingtip launchers. OFF – Disconnects electrical power. UP – Connects electrical power. If no electrical power to the respective missiles, what generates the growl? :music_whistling:
  8. Don't know why. attached zip file log dcs.log-20171226-200403.zip
  9. =Mac= Canada F-5 or AV-8. (Either one) Cessna 150 if you got one.

    2.5 Upgrade path

I don't care HOW it gets upgraded. I'm so excited that 2.5 and the Hornet are close. I saw Wag's YouTube vid with the snow and trees as his Bug flew at Batumi. I was 15 minutes late to an important appointment because I could not tear my eyes away from Wag's video... twice.
  11. VTOL November I can't remember if I have shared this in the forums somewhere or not. Anyway, here is the YouTube vid I made of my clumsy flying:
  12. Change the date of your computer system date (Windows) to the 14th of December, run the updater which should work to update 1.5, then reset your system date back to the current date.
  13. I tried it all again over the carrier, slow descent and over the water, slow descent. In single player, I had no problem like I did in multi player. I will try again in multi player to see if maybe it was just a quirk in the flights.
  14. It might be my copy of the Harrier. I can hover, land and takeoff very easy on land with a full load of fuel and water but not using water at all. However, when over water, light fuel, full power and water is extremely bad and cannot support hover flight. This is why I could land only in STOL. I'll try later tonight and maybe make a video if I can show that it's not my noob flying skills. :)
  15. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_v._Pepsico,_Inc. Sure beats taking the bus!
  16. Landing and taking off vertically over land is do-able and, once practised, easy. Approaching the Tarawa, hovering over the sea is near impossible. The only way I can get onto the Boat is with STOL. Leaving the Boat by VTOL, I had over 5K fuel, full water and off, no weapons or tanks, and managed to get off the deck and fly sideways over the sea only to slowly sink with landing water ON until I went swimming (FULL power.) I can hover over land with a full 7k fuel and full water. Crashing (slowly) in water fails to explode. Ejection then causes the explosion. Aerobatics Online, Caucasus. (Have not tried Single Player.)
  17. Thank you from me, Razbam! Who loves ya', baby?
  18. Yup. Figured that out. Engine start switch. Wait for pre-spool. Throttle up a bit and finish spooling. Flip the little lock tab then you can pull back. Pleeeeeze keep in mind that I am NOT complaining. My gosh, I'm so happy with what is on my computer!!!! Just trying to help out. :)
  19. Getting to the Throttle moved to idle caused me to question my sanity. FINALLY, I found that once you click Engine start, the throttle has a lock that prevents engine cut off. I never saw it. I thought I was moving the parking brake but there's that pesky little engine cut off lever on the side of the throttle that, if it is visible, and you pull the throttle back, you cut the engine off! Ha, I finally figured it out. Also, when you hit engine start, you have to give it a couple seconds before the rpm's come up to (what?) 91?. I didn't know that, either. Then you throttle forward. Maybe I should have read the manual? ..... nah.....
  20. FLying stand alone never glitched at all except for the low FPS everyone has been reporting. Numerous ground crashes due to pilot error, though. Need to get a new pilot. Flying the Harrier on the Aerobatics server proved to have some CTD problems. First crash just dropped DCS 1.5 to the desktop in a blink of an eye. DCS.exe simply terminated without warning. Second crash was with an out of memory error. I have 32 GB of ram. Third and several more crashes just locked DCS.exe up and froze the monitor it was on. Second monitor was fine. I let it run to see if it would hit an out of memory error but it never did. CPU was active with it. I suspended the exe and resumed it (task manager). Nothing unusual except DCS was frozen, using memory steady and one core was very much active with other cores inactive or parked. I haven't flown since then so the logs should still be there on the hard drive. I just don't know where to get it. Let me know what to do and I'll share whatever you need. BE ADVISED: this is NOT a complaint. Just trying to help out. Damn good airplane, though!!!!
  21. Okay, for some reason, I could not stop thinking about the Harrier while at work today. Came home and didn't even stop to eat. Had to fly!
  22. Answering my own question: (From Razbam's pdf... my gosh, Mac!) Aileron droop operation requires no pilot action. Inflight, with the flaps mode switch in the STOL position, the ailerons droop 15° when airspeed is below 165 knots and nozzles are over 25°. The aileron DROOP light on the caution/advisory lights panel comes on when the ailerons are drooped.
  23. There's a reason for the water injection. You can't hover with weapons and a full fuel load. This is a fighter... a fast mover. Light and almost empty you can hover nicely. "Fly like an Eagle..." and you must take off like one. No differential braking. Duh... Brakes are weak, though. Is that normal?
  24. Where are the rotors? I can't find 'em. Well, I did manage to land. Just once without killing myself. Just once. So, I KNOW it can be done! :music_whistling: There certainly is a lot to be learned. Just one hour with this gem isn't enough. Quick question, where is the water level indicator? Is there one? I was worried that I was going to run out. What the heck is DROOP? Great plane, Razbam! I love it.
  25. I've flown LoMac when I first learned of it. I never knew (at that time) about the Flanker but I would have bought it had I known. Today, as my signature shows, if it flies, I have it. No, I can't fly the non-English aircraft much although, with the 104th Phoenix (years ago), I did finish my carrier quals with the Su-33. If DCS creates anything -- even the Wright Flyer (December 17, 1903) -- I will do everything in my power to buy whatever it is you create. Even to the point of bankruptcy! You are that important to me. I think there is a couple aircraft that I have bought twice. (I even bought a copy of the A-10C and gave it to my son-in-law.) I think anyone who has flown a desktop flight simulator will grade DCS 1 and 2 as absolute top of its field. There is NOTHING out there that even comes close: graphics, flight dynamics, nor air combat environment. Yes, I comment on the odd thing here and there that I find ... worth commenting on ... but I'll comment on a luxurious restaurant pizza, too. But I love both to the absolute tops! Thank you, Wags and the entire ED team along with all those wonderful other teams. Live long and prosper. Your devoted customer, =Mac= PS: Thank you, also, to those huge corporations and governments who grant ED permission to give all of us these mechanical angels.
