  1. Kangaroo is delicious! It tastes something like a cross between lamb and beef. Kanga-burgers would be awesome. :chef: Maybe we could use them to bribe YoYo and get that Spitfire for Christmas. Santa's magic elves could fly them to us from the North Pole with payloads of presents for all the children along the way.
  2. I think we may have to take this to a higher authority....... Dear Santa, It has been a long year and we have all been very good flight simmers. We have been kind to our families and pets. We haven't spent the grocery money on a new joystick, although we have thought about it. We have tried hard to land without damaging our aircraft too much. We haven't posted about the 109's trim or the stability issues of the Spitfire. Please could we have a Spitfire MK IX for Christmas. Thank you, Cheers, Scream. P.S. I promise to leave a nice cold beer under the Christmas tree for you and some treats for the reindeer. There you go. Sorted!
  3. Regarding the manual propeller pitch setting for take off, there is an interesting article on the BF109 E in the February issue of Flypast magazine where the pilot mentions using a setting of 11:45. I gave it a few tries and it seems to make it a little easier to keep the aircraft under control, yet still plenty of power for take off, so it may also apply to the K series as well. He also quoted a former Luftwaffe pilot Oskar Bosch who had said to keep the aircraft in three point attitude and just let it fly itself off the ground, and not to use forward stick pressure to lift the tail. This 109 is a joy to fly.
  4. Exactly! Cruise speed for me means an ATA setting of 0.9 - 1.1 and around 1800 - 2000 RPM for the 109K. I find I even need to ease off on the forward trim sometimes. Using a little left rudder to keep her on track and you can fly hands off literally for enough time to open another beer, stretch your arms and pat the dog. The interview with Erich contained quite a lot of great information. I'm really looking forward to Part Two.
  5. I've seen the AI in the Mustang do the same thing against the 109 K4. One way to deal with this is to spiral climb around them, staying off angle until he runs out of energy and altitude is at your advantage and then dive on your target as he drops away below you. Generally results in one sorry looking pony. :)
  6. Thanks for posting this interview. And a huge thank you and much respect to Erich for sharing his experiences with us.
  7. That's what I mean! Lovely stuff. How could you trim those beautiful wings?
  8. Thanks for the updates, I'm really looking forward to the launch of DCS 2.0. The size of those maps is a bit of a concern for those of us with poor internet. 24GB! Maybe having an option to be able to buy a physical copy could be an option.
  9. I must admit I would prefer the full wing version at first release and the clipped wing as a later variant. It's going to break my heart everytime I go into a bank and look along that beautiful elliptical wing to see that clipped end. Even the Airfix kit of the clipped wing Spitfire comes with extra wingtip pieces! Love that poster Sith.
  10. I have to agree with Sithspawn. I find the 109 is fairly easy to maintain level flight with just a little forward stick pressure. This is with a standard Warthog joystick, with an extension it would be even better. No complaints here.
  11. This and a little bit of luck. It just depends on where those rounds end up hitting, one day that pony disintegrates and the next day she keeps flying.
  12. Thanks for reminding me that turning 50 is just a few weeks away....
  13. A curvature of 20 on the joystick axis gives a good result, just enough to smooth the movement in the centre area.
  14. Thanks for the title information bjsracer, I must watch that one. You're right, it does remind me of the old War Picture Library and Commando comics of the 70's.
  15. There is a great animated sequence at 7:35 in black and white ink style of a Spitfire and an ME 109. Does anyone know where this comes from? Cheers, Scream.
  16. I think you pretty much nailed the current DCS WW2 experience Teapot...fly, dream of what will be coming our way soon, fly some more , dream some more, a little bit of Cliffs of Dover, then back to DCS. It is going to be incredible when we get the Spitfire and the Normandy map, WW2 flight simming will never be the same again.
  17. Even using a DSR setting of just 1.5 or 1.25 seems to help with aircraft visibility without too much of a FPS hit.
  18. Thanks for the update Sith, sounds like everything is under control. And now the wait for the Spitfire! Patience is a virtue with flight sims..... Scream. S!
  19. One way of looking at the whole convergence issue is that in reality pilots were quite often assigned an aircraft that was not their usual one due to repairs and maintenance. If everyone had set their own personal convergences it would have made it harder to adjust to another aircraft, so they were usually kept to standard settings. Just think of it as flying with "Historical Settings". Cheers, Scream.
  20. I've found this to be a great way to avoid any engine problems. You can fly the 109 around in a dogfight situation for over 30 minutes at around 1.4 ata and 2600 rpm settings and the only thing that stops the engine is when you take damage or run out of fuel! I haven't tried leaving a longer cool down period after each use of 1.8 ata and MW50 yet, but it seems to be the correct way to handle any over heating issues. Cheers, Scream.
  21. I've asked about this on the forums sometime ago too, but never found any real answer either. I have a vague idea that they were meant to be delivered at the completion of the DCS WW2 project, but when that might happen is anyone's guess. Maybe when the P 47 and the Spitfire are finished. The Normandy map seems to be getting pushed back further and further, and there has been very little mention of the ME 262 as well, so the completion date could be a long time away. The Kickstarter was finished about a year and a half ago. A nice TFC shirt would definitely help ease the stress of waiting for " Official Project Completion ". Cheers, Scream.
  22. Hi Derbysieger, I think I generally only used MW50 and 1.8 ata maybe 5 or 6 times during the 15 minutes, usually for around 30 seconds at a time maximum. The last time this happened and the engine seized, I was in level flight extending away from the target and was running at 1.4 ata. You could be onto something regarding the engine not liking short bursts of extra MW50 power. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for the quick reply. Cheers, Scream. S!
  23. I'm having a bit of a strange issue with the 109. Everything is operating correctly during normal flight and manoeuvres. However sometimes during an extended dogfight, usually after about 15 minutes, the engine suddenly seizes and I can't figure out why. I'm keeping my speed up around 300 - 400 kph and I'm only using MW50 in small short bursts. Radiator is full open, ATA generally around 1.4, fuel and oil pressures are normal, coolant and oil temperatures are all within safe operating range and yet the engine will just suddenly quit without any warning, and the oil pressure drops to zero. This only happens sometimes, I can't seem to find any pattern to this problem. I'm sure it is something that I'm doing incorrectly, but I can't think what it could be. Any suggestions? Cheers, Scream.
  24. Voted 'Extremely Important' Absolutely vital for the success of any WW2 era flight sim. Plus my ageing eyesight needs all the help it can get!
  25. NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :no_sad: It will be here soon, it will be here soon, it will be here soon, my precious, my precious, I must have it.
