After 7 years I still dont get the control profiles
Screamadelica replied to Boosterdog's topic in New User Briefing Room
Oldser and dumber here as well. I seem to recall, in the slowly deteriorating thing I call a brain, that you use to have to save each column (device) in the controls one by one otherwise it didn't save the whole profile correctly. Is that still the case? Should I give each column (device) a different name when saving, or does it just load the whole thing if you hit save profile just the once? Enquiring minds wish to know. Thanks, Scream. -
Problem Landing the Spit’ on Detling’s Grass Runway
Screamadelica replied to mungee's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
This sounds like one of my " I'll find a nice flat green field to put her down in, wheels down and all that " and which usually ends up as described above. Lots of fun, eh. -
Stall turns in the Spitfire
Screamadelica replied to Screamadelica's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Thanks philstyle. I've been putting in some time experimenting a bit and found that, as you say, you need to put a good full boot of rudder in a bit before she hits zero. I wait until the left wing just starts to drop and by also timing things correctly with the stick I seem to be getting better results. You get so used to being gentle with the stick most of the time, but this is one manoeuvre that benefits from fairly strong reins. No more floating and wobbling about. Looking more respectable now. Interesting idea with going right, I've always just gone in the direction of the wing drop, I'll give it a try. Cheers, Scream. -
Stall turns in the Spitfire
Screamadelica replied to Screamadelica's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Hi DD, as per recommended procedure for this manoeuvre once the speed drops to 0 and you kick the rudder left, I pull the throttle back as the aircraft is starting to rotate to the left. It's at this point that things go awry and the Spitfire seems to float rather than smoothly turning on its wingtip. I'll try delaying the reduction in throttle and see if that makes a difference. I've managed some beautiful stall turns in the 109. Had a DCS moment when it just smoothly rotated and had a feeling of being suspended in space, but the Spitfire doesn't want to play nice. I'll keep trying. Gave it a try today and it is definitely better to pull the throttle back as you kick the left rudder, keeping the engine running whilst trying to arc the aircraft just ends up in all sorts of trouble. I almost managed to execute a couple of reasonably smooth stall turns but still a bit wobbly. I never read about the Spitfire being difficult in stall turns, not sure what is going on here... -
Stall turns in the Spitfire

Has anybody tried one of these? At $99 they are an alternative to the Saitek Cessna trim wheel, although maybe not as solid in build. Would anyone recommend them or another alternative for a desk mounted unit. Cheers, Scream. https://flightvelocity.com/products/flight-velocity-trim-wheel-pro

Or in other words...how to perform a smooth hammerhead in the Spitfire. I have no problem in keeping the aircraft in the vertical but when it comes to full left rudder, right aileron and forward stick time the lovely Spit tends to wobble all over the place a bit with the nose being reluctant to point downwards, which sometimes gives you some unplanned stall recovery practice. I've watched all the videos and can do nice smooth stall turns in the 109, but the Spit is giving me a bit of grief. Any hints or tips? Is it due to the elliptical wing? Just curious..... Cheers, Scream.

I've had to basically shelve any missions involving flak. Just too frustrating. Soon as they get a hint of a merlin engine it's goodnight vienna. Look forward to the planned improvements.

And problem solved. Appears that the standard setup in the BIOS for the xmp profile is switched on automatically by the computer. Needed a manual set up in the BIOS to get the RAM speed all settled. Hopefully all is good to go. Thanks for everyone's help, cheers, Scream.

No joy. RAM is fine, did an uninstall via control panel and a clean install of drivers, disconnected all controllers and keyboard, etc. Still crashes everytime after a few minutes. Back to the shop with it. Curses! Thanks for all suggestions, I'll let you know the result. Cheers, Scream.

As far as I know the graphics card is not overclocked,I've done a fresh driver install but still the same issue. Must be graphics card related as it affects my other WW2 flight sim in the same way. DCS log attached. Thanks Big Newy. dcs.log-20211014-043250.zip

This a really weird one! Everything runs fine to start, fly for a few minutes and then the screen freezes followed by the game crashing. I've just recently upgraded to a reasonably powerful computer, GTX 3080 card, 32 gig ram, everything well above recommended requirements for high end performance. Crash logs attached below. What makes it weird is that I have exactly the same issue with my other flight sim. I'm running the latest drivers and win 10 is updated, I've done a repair, all the usual suspects, etc. Free virtual beers for anyone who can help. Gun convergence in DCS seems to be highly classified information. I've done the same as Nealius, set to 250 and fire when they fill your sights.

I have just upgraded from a 32 inch monitor to a 43 inch monitor. I've set track ir up correctly, camera centred etc, and set a snap view for the compass, but when I start a new mission the camera view when starting is pointing at the lower area of the cockpit and is very close up. No matter what I do I can't seem to be able to get a normal camera view. Everything works as normal with my other flight sim, it's just in DCS that does this. I can't get a normal centred view when starting. Is there any way to reset the default view. Thanks . Cheers, Scream. Answer: I screwed something up setting the snap view. Delete the view folder in user/saved games/DCS/config/view. Voila!

Charnwood campaign is for the P 51 only. Spitfire is available in the Epsom and Big Show campaigns. S! Scream.

How to contact ground control with radio
Screamadelica replied to Wolf8312's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Try using the " Open Command Menu " instead . Push To Talk seems to be mainly for radio comms amongst airborne units. Cheers, Scream. -
Request regarding main compass
Screamadelica replied to Talisman_VR 's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Solution for TrackIR Users. (Thanks to Sokol for inspiration.) Snap views do work with a TrackIr set up. You can set a snap view and assign it to a joystick or throttle button or single key as well as a macro, just make sure you can still hold the button down whilst adjusting the compass and holding the stick in level flight. Step One: Press the button/key assigned to one of the snap views, say Snap View 1. Then release the button to return to TrackIr view. Step Two: Try and get a clear view of the compass without moving the stick. This seems to work best by contorting yourself into a painful position, to the left side and above is easiest. Once in position zoom the view in until the compass is easy to read and press F9 to pause TrackIr. You may have to try this a few times, re-centre your view if you can't get a clear angle on the compass. Step Three: Press RAlt and NUM 0 to save the view. Then unpause TrackIr. Step Four: Book chiropractor to reset neck. You should now have a custom snap view of the compass. Cheers, Scream. -
Request regarding main compass
Screamadelica replied to Talisman_VR 's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
Great keyboard that one. Use it myself. The three sets of macros make it handy for switching between flight sims, and is perfect for all those radio commands. Highly recommended. -
Thanks for all these missions. Great work.

There are a fair few of us that fall into that category on this forum. Former NSW Mounted Police here. So, plenty of volunteers out there....... Seriously though, what do all the stones and sticks add to a flight sim, just some decent looking grass and everything is good. Doesn't this just add to the texture loading process? Cheers, Scream.
-
Emu Parade anyone? The grass does look pretty dodgy as well. Definitely needs some changes.
-
+1 for this request. It would be very handy to have a separate key command for this feature.
-
It may very well have been. Personally I thought I had flown through the Sea Of Holes and into Pepperland. Just had to keep an eye out for any low flying Yellow Submarines.

Gunsight Range and Base adjust

Thanks for this tip about resetting the values. Awesome! -
I was enjoying my favourite sport of destroying steam trains the other day, and after managing to cause some damage to the carriages the smoke from the wreck seemed to have been replaced by what can only be described as large blue bubbles. Anyone else having this issue? Should I delete the metashaders folder? Cheers, Scream.
