"sound-radar"...official opinion on it?
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to 9.JG27 DavidRed's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I just pray that this does not result in the banning of sound mods, as they are desperately needed for several modules. -

Fantastic! -
When testing missions, both selfmade and editing the the user made ones I found around the forum, I found that ground units are the primary culprit of unit types killing performance. Even large b-17 formations, intercepting fighters and large numbers of ships at the beach did not have a huge impact. You probably know already off course, but I see that the F10 option removes the second flight+other patrols, when the same performance gain perhaps (?) could be had by removing some moving trucks etc. With the enormous amount of ground activity it is no wonder it is taxing even high end systems:)

DCS telling me I need mods after update
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Ghostrider142's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Yeah- but from the posts and replies above, it seems like all is good if you switch the setup. I suspect at lot of people are using sounds mods and that it therefore is worth mentioning in a modding discussion of the current build. -
dburne if you changed visibility from HIGH to MED that is a massive performance boost.

Overall lighting is improved. I hated watchig up-sun as I thought the terrain shadows were not good, same for aircraft. They look much more natural now. Shimmering in tress and with shadows also seems much improved. Overall, its sharper, cleaner and more natural. I was hoping for new water/wave implentations like the one seen in the F/A-18 preview and some fixing of terrain seams in Normandy to be tuned/fixed but hopefully it will come later. Just got myself a new gtx 1080 today as well, that did not hurt either;)

DCS telling me I need mods after update
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to Ghostrider142's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
But that does not work for all mods! 3d objects works fine- but sound mods are broken at this point... That is- they need to be installed tradidionally (In game folder) and as JSGME can only point to one destination-not all mods will work -
VP-Airfield Equipment 0.8.2 beta

Extremely impressive content and presentation! This should be sticked somewhere for all future mission builders to see! -
Modding remains finicky. When using a custom made Spitfire sound mod- only the external sounds of the mod work, because the mod is split between "Sounds" and "Mods", but appearantly only one of them works from the "Saved Games" setup. This is annoying as I have reconfigured JGSME to put files in "Saved Games"...

You have all reason to be proud. The campaign is great. Just finished mission 8. Unfortunately, some missions are still close to unplayable on my mid- range rig (FPS down in the 1X range). Will await performance boosts in patches- or potentially do a hardware update. -
Looks incredible. Can't wait to populate some missions with these. They will help the world come alive tremendously!

I fly the campaign with worse specs than you. Drop shadows to flat for both, and set visibility to medium. The first mission seemed to be the worst, the others are better. The frames are not great, but playable. 20-40 with occasional stutters. (gfx 970, 16GB ram, i5 3.5, SSD)

@jspec3, the "default" wingman commands have been around since forever, and is in the base game. Special radio messages that are for the campaign comes in addition to these, they don't replace them. There is supposed to be new radio comms/effects/voices for WW2 era aircraft, but its WIP and noone knows when it will arrive. On flak: I saw some black (not grey) puffs coming up while flying a mission- are these medium caliber AAA, or is it in fact a placeholder effect for the 88's?

Couple of new missions this evening. Two of my wingmen bought the farm to flak north of Evreux (Be careful there) The rest of us ran into some 109's which we dispatched in short order, one of them by me. -

Nice:) Excellent and immersive campaign. Hope that the effect team will do the 88 puffs before long. Kinda hard to know if you are being shot at:) If I were to suggest a small tweak, a few more ships would be helpful to represent the invasion fleet. Not to the point where it kills performance off course. -

Turning cockpit shadows to flat also gave a performance boost of about 10 frames, making the campaign playable with around 25 fps for takeoff and between 25-55 arborne depending on the usual factors (objects density, altitude etc) The absolutely biggest factors for FPS for me are: Shadows: Both flat (Used to have LOW for objects and FLAT for terrain) Visibility: Medium (Insted of my usualt HIGH) Most other settings are at HIGH - but these other setting only provide marginal differences in FPS. Now the campaign (at least mission one) was pretty playable, while not optimal. @Sithspawn: Gtx 970 with 4 GB Vram. (Although there are reports that the 970 only actually uses 3,5 of these) effectively. But it is interesting to see guys with 1080's reporting similar performance as mine. -
I know we have a decicated scrnshot place in the forum, but perhaps people with like a glimpse of what the camp looks like when they pop in here. First mission (User made player skin) :

First of all let me start by saying thanks for a campaign that from the get go seems to be bristeling with detail, dedication to quality. Briefings, presentation, documetation etc seems top notch. The voice acting sounds authentic and believable. I can't wait to get to know test it out properly. I'll give a more detailed review in due time, but I'm just gonna comment a couple of things: Skins: Despite that skins have been made for the campaign, these skins have flaws (as seen in the screen below). Fortunately, user made skins have been made that can remedy this. Also- these skins are not used (at least not in the first mission) Example of user made skin by Reflected: However, I am puzzled over the fact that that the standard "Muscat" skin is in full use for all aricraft (at least in mission one). Having a skin that refers to a single plane is not the best to use as the default one. This should be looked into. This nose art for every plane: I also experienced a quite severe performance drop, despite a very sparsely populated airfield and beachead- though this was to be expected and I will try to tune it out. The lack of bombs for the Spitfire for a close support campaign seems strange, but then again, Bunyap knows his stuff. Don't get my wrong: I am super excited for what seems like a great product, just some nitpicking for the greater benefit:) Now off to strafe some coloums!:pilotfly:

Spitfire: Epsom Campaign Trailer
REDEYE_CVW-66 replied to NineLine's topic in Spitfire LF Mk. IX Operation Epsom Campaign
Yeah- already flat for terrain and low for others. WIll check. Funny thing is I made a D-day mission and populated it extensiively (Beach activity, 25+ ships, moving tanks etc.) and got nowhere near this kind of drop. I fully understand the nature of the build and that things will change etc. On to tweaking (and maybe ordering a gtx 1080). Would be interested in hearing others experience, but should probably be in the dedicated campaign thread. -

I tested mission 1 for 5 mins before I had to leave. Unfortunately the performance for me was rock bottom. On my regular, populated missions I get between 30 and 60 FPS, but here taxing on the runway gave me 15.... 25 on the air. (GTX 970, 16GB RAM, i5) On to tuning I guess.
