  1. You will never get full realism anyways (thank god). If so you would have to have 10-1 ratio for the Allies and the smell of the horror of battle entering your cockpit and the sickness that comes with flying from a frontline airfield built on shallow graves. An approximation at best is what you are gonna get, so I can live with axis aircraft from a few months later- and this comes from a OCD bloke, realizing we are on the verge of the best happening in WW2 sims since the olden days, so I'll dial back and enjoy what is offered instead:)
  2. Clouds will not be redone for this map. It is slated for improvement after the 2.5 merge later, after explosions. The weather you will get in the early access of the map will be the same as in other maps and versions of DCS. Thankfully- it is on the list.
  3. Excellent! Hope the F-15 and Mirage gets added too:)
  4. To include all aspects of the most complex operation in history, is not within the scope of this sim as I see it. That means nothing as regards to every country's contribution, it is what is deemed the most relevant from the air war persective. Not an expert on french military history- but I would assume this- The french resistance would do the vast majority of their work out of sight and in the cover of darkness. Out of sight of most regular soldiers, not to mention pilots. The RESULTS of their work however, blown bridges, rail lines etc- can be seen and to some degree shown in the sim. The French Army was integrated into the US army, and cut loose to take the spearhead entrance into Paris (Lots of politics in that one), but they used US equipment and vehicles and can be represented in the sim. The Free French Air Force operated (mostly) under the RAF umbrella, using British equipment and organzation and can be represented in the sim. First and foremost this is a map for AIRPLANES, but using assets to represent (as in not do the real thing, but something that looks like it) a period battlefield of the most iconic machines. I don't see the problem. (EDIT- sorry Sith- did not see your post until after I posted)
  5. Did not french soldiers (mostly) wear US uniforms and use US equipment? EDIT: Scrolling above I saw the joke- which is now on me.
  6. @9./JG26_Brigg: I guess that is a matter of taste. Flat is the "simple" option, so its thecnically, less advanced- but it requires less power and looks smoother. Wags also said that he preferred flat shadows for flying and full shadows for CA/Ground level stuff.
  7. Seems like the frogfoot video is not running flat shadows. The videos from Wags in the Spit and Huey are much "cleaner", while in the last video with the Su-25, you can see shadows popping everywhere, while Wags mentioned he was running flat shadows. I would like to see a WW2 dogfight in some of the upcoming vids, maybe at some higher altitude, with some clouds and different time of day (morning, late afternoon) that lets us get some more feel for the atmosphere, not to mention how the map handles transitions between altitudes. Wags mentioned in a youtube response, where some guy asked if the grass would react to wind/prop-jetblast, that it was "W.i.p" so I guess we would see something over time. The smoke effects people mention seem the same to me as far as I can tell. All in all- still progressing nicely:)
  8. My favs "The Big Show" WW2 Clostermann, Spitfire and Tempest pilot ww2. I must have read it 7-8 times. "Fighter Pilot: The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds," WW2, Cold War, Vietnam. well written about a legend- entertaining both on the ground and in the air. Both mentioned above, but worth repeating:)
  9. Nevermind- worked it out when I read through the thread properly. I sued these setting for the above view Chase = { LocalPoint = {-2.0, 0.5, -1.146}, AnglesDefault = {179.0, 0.0},
  10. Could someone help me with what needs editing so that the default Shift-F4 view for the spirfire become something like this: (If its possible)
  11. Fantastic vid. Seems like a lot less people watched this one which he also made
  12. They have said that WW2 radio functionality is in the works (check wags stream flying huey over Normandy), but radar, combined with ground control is an essential part of WW2, just as AWACS is to modern scenarios- I have it gets in at some point.
  13. I am VERY happy they did the classic wing first. The iconic shape of one of the most if not THE most beautiful aircraft ever made means a hell of a lot more to me than better competetiveness on dogfights servers, but that is just MOHO. But like others have mentioned, we might have our cake and eat it too- so all good:) Will fly both variants at lenghts!
  14. Excellent stuff. If I was to hand out some constructive critique- the ramp camo looks very 'un-german;) Keep up the good work!
  15. The inclusion of England is superb for historical and gameplay reasons. The droptanks will sort out the range. Most Spit squads did not move to France until a couple of weeks+ after the landing. Before that, they did land in France to refill before going home as mentioned above. Flying scenarios before d-day with the fields in place might be a slight annoyance, but hardly enough to ruin immersive gameplay. In addition to being useful for D-day and later scenarios, England can be the start point for defensive missions as well, stopping bombers, coastal and convoy patrols, intercepting recce's etc etc. Also, Racoon made a comment somewhere about wanting the airfields to be optional also. The COULD mean, that they can be toggled trough a map option- but either way- I'm just happy to move out of the Caucasus with my warbirds- for good!
  16. I want to change some of the default skins that come with the spit for others that I have found and edited. However- I can't wrap my head around it.I change the DDS image in the RAF standard for instance, keeping the name of the original. I my head, the sim should then read the skin as normal, but show my edited template instead- but somehow it does not- the old skin still shows. I want to change the default, clean spit skin, because of the nose art, and the same for the D-day striped one, both of which I have user made skins that I prefer. I would like to make a JGSME ready file (Know how that works) that once activated shows my selection of skins instead.
  17. Everything is subject to change
  18. You need a map to fly over with your FC3 aircraft. Since you cannot use Normandy until the end of MAY (Not april, check livestream), you will need to get 1.5 if you wish to fly it before. While you CAN fly FC3 airraft over Normandy, all the missions, campaigns etc that exist for them including the one that comes with FC3, need either the free Caucasus map from 1.5 or Nevada.
  19. Thanks for that! Great clip!
  20. How will this work with a moving frontline rolling across Normandy? What factor decides of the trains are friendly or not? :)
  21. If and when the eastern side of the map (NW France) get a tad more fleshed out, I could be an excellent template/Stand in for late-war- Battle of the Bulge scenarios. That being said- snow less winters are more common in this part of Europe... The trees are without leaves for months- Autumn maps typically has orange/red leaves, which are actually just present for a few weeks before the trees are bare, so Autumn is a poor stand in for snow-less winter... That being said, snow looks cool and appropriate scenery for our warbirds to fly over:D
  22. Very pleased to hear about Wags and Bunyaps collaboration on a Spitfire campaign after all the stuff presented here in astonoshing detail. Instant buy for me.
