  1. I tried the Index with the Hornet last night. Basically unplayable. I can't read any of the DDIs with the clarity I had with my 4k monitor. I'm back to 4k w/ HDR and TIR, and I'm much happier.
  2. Nothing comes close to 4k resolution for immersion, since you can literally see details as if you were actually in the cockpit. Maybe the valve index will be the ultimate VR solution, and I'll find that answer soon. I think I might be using the index for VR only games and using my 4k 144hz HDR gsync monitor for DCS though.
  3. You missed Matt's later post which states that it is indeed a bug when there's no active caution/advisory (which is true for my bug report): The key statement is "then the overlay field should be removed". Photos of actual Hornet cockpits all have a caution/advisory displayed with the overlay blackout.
  4. The SA page has a graphical glitch resulting in inability to read target information in bottom right corner. To reproduce, in 4k resolution, go to SA page on left DDI, TDC select left, move cursor over target. Bottom right of the page has a bar over part of the target information, which makes it unreadable. The text thickness lua is unchanged.
  5. Yeah the normal behavior is really important for improving combat outcomes. There is still a weird graphical delay/lag after pressing the "NORM" flight profile that isn't present when selecting other options on other missiles. Not a big deal as long as it works.
  6. It's mediocrity, since additional programmer resources used would mean much better experience for a portion of users. I'd rather have a program that gives better performance for certain users than bad performance for everyone.
  7. I always thought this was because ED was being benevolent to non-nvidia users, but after all the news about ED failing to deliver on expected updates to open beta, I think ED just doesn't have the programming resources available. They're having a hard enough time as it is.

    Update

I guess I meant to ask if they will jump out of the way if you're about to run them over.

    Update

Will they be dynamic and move in response to improper plane movement? Or will they be more scripted and stay in fairly rigid position?
  10. I haven't seen any difference between any of the aim-7 modes, and it seems like the only mode implemented so far is loft mode, since the trajectories are identical. I'm not sure when the other modes will be present. Loft mode does work fairly well as a loft missile though, so you'll have that going for you. I haven't tested RCS or size differences yet, but I set the correct categories anyway just in case.
  11. Actually, it will. You can have super high resolution and pixel density screens with not as much of a performance hit as you would expect for a linear increase in resolution.
  12. I wonder if there's a 25% benefit with regular monitor.
  13. Did a mission today and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the communication. I can't wait to pick up the full module!
  14. Valve Index is probably the way to go as its popularity and advantages over competing headsets will make it the default for VR.
  15. That's why you should get the Valve Index, it's the best available system for VR right now.
  16. I think there's frame interpolation available. My hope in the future is having 8k panels at 240hz, with onboard upscaling of lower resolution inputs, as well as onboard frame interpolation. The key is making you feel like you're in real life, even if not all the frames are drawn.
  17. Exactly, which is why optimization of panel quality (like better subpixels) and higher resolution panels (reverb) are more important for image quality. I'm more on the high refresh rate bandwagon, and it certainly sounds like it is much more immersive, lifelike, etc, according to tested.
  18. I'm glad I bought the valve Index, it definitely seems to have made the right design decisions. Going to LCD was a very good idea.
  19. I have no problem defending against missiles, I'm just limited by the number of countermeasures available and how many enemy fighters are still shooting at me after my dumbass wingmen manage to die. It's pretty easy to defeat missiles, just not sure why my wingmen are so ineffective still.
  20. I've now tried selecting individual radar contacts and ordering wingman #2 and #3 to engage specific individual targets. I also release my AIM-120s within 15 miles and that has better success. I manage to win the match if I personally am able to take out 3 enemy aircraft. Why do the Hornet pilots suck so bad? Also, after reviewing TacView, I've noticed my wingmen dump a huge amount of countermeasures early on unnecessarily, likely depleting their stores before they really should use them up. Question: when wingmen announce missile launch in a furball, is this to state that missiles are launched toward me?
  21. Best upgrade for the warthog. Looking forward to using it on the Ka-50 once they upgrade the cockpit...
  22. My problem is more related to AI and friendly aircraft performance. I'm able to deal with enemy aircraft in 2v1 situations easily, but not 3+v1. The mission usually turns into a completely lopsided battle that blue simply can't win. I think if you did 8 AI vs 8 AI with the same mission parameters, you'd have a 90%+ loss rate. I don't think this is accurate historically based on level of training of pilots of the respective countries.
  23. Hey everyone, I'm trying to get better at BVR, especially on the 8v8 instant action. I've played it probably 50-100 times at this point, but still having problems with effectiveness. 1) Enemy AI missiles consistently defeat my wingmen 2) Friendly AI consistently fail to engage enemy effectively 3) My AIM-7s consistently loft even though they're set to norm 4) Friendly AI either unsure how to effectively use performance of the Hornet, or their Hornet performance is significantly less than what the AI is expecting. What can I do to do better, other than me getting more lucky with my missiles so that it's a 8v6 match for my AI to handle?
  24. I hope the solution involves automatic CIWS use against non-owners if they get too close!
