  1. that's affirm - wind
  2. i do exactly this and yes, snap-view is the answer because i have very little need to adjust aileron trim, i have left- and right-trim button programmed to snap views - the right hat-switch press zooms in to my fuel gage very handy
  3. ==INTRO== just want to help ppl out who are flying online and want to share their position with others the F-15C is fairly popular online, and its the platform i know best, so i'll share a little knowledge here for the benefit of the community (i hope!) referencing your position with respect to bullseye is helpful when everybody is spread out across the map good for us, it is also easy to do in your F-15 cockpit is an HSI (horizontal situation indicator) - its right below the ADI (the "ball" that shows you where the horizon is) there's a lot going on there, but i'm just going to focus on one aspect first, cycle to waypoint "1" [[use L-CNTL ` and L-ALT ` to cycle up and down through your waypoints --- note: you might have to cycle nav modes first - press "1" (that is the number "one" - NOT on the keypad) until you can get the waypoint number to change (is that a bug??) verify "1 NAV" appears in the lower right-hand corner of your HUD your HUD and HSI will now be displaying information for nav point "1" ---- aka bullseye [[note: the vast majority of the time - and especially if you spend any time at all on oh.. say...... the 104th server, wypt1 is bullseye]] here's the HUD view with wypt 1 selected... ==YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND -- THE HSI== now look down at the HSI one of the "arrows" on the HSI points toward your currently selected waypoint [see "circle 1" in the figure below] this arrow indicates the direction TO nav point 1 but we want the bearing FROM waypoint 1 --- therefore, we look at the other side of that arrow - 180-deg away FROM waypoint 1 in this case... 300 [see "square 2" in the figure] and the last thing to do is find your RANGE from bullseye/wypt1 you'll find that in the window in the upper left-hand corner of the HSI [see "arrow 3"] that's it! ==COMPARE== lets compare this result with ownship position as displayed on the kneeboard type RT-SHIFT K ------ this will pull up the kneeboard as seen in the figure below then click RT-CTRL K ----- that marks your position on the map [ see thin red circle on the kneepad for ownship position - its marked with a purple "V"] now if you just eyeball it, you can see, our position is yeah.. roughly 300 / 30 miles from wypt1 [ see RED ARROW coming from wypt1/bullseye ] so, if anybody asks where you are - now you can tell them! and.. if you hear someone online saying they are northwest of bulls, 20 miles, you can either look at your own kneepad and see at a glance, or reference your own HSI, see where YOU are, then imagine where he is relative to you yeahhhhh.. you could reference the F10 view, but (in the servers where its allowed!) it takes time, you've got to take your hand off your HOTAS, and mouse around.... taking time and taking your eyes off where you're going if you're scampering around on the deck in the mountains hiding from bandit radars and you pull up F10 map view, you could very easily run into cumulo granitus, fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova... "and that would end your trip real quick, wouldn't it, kid" just checking to see if anybody's actually reading this ; ) but this is quick and, it will have to do until we get a full-up DCS-level F-15C which will have a moving map display overlayed with datalink symbology - then all of this information will be instantly perceived in a simple glance learn it, and prosper!! any questions??
  4. think if they built a GRIPEN! : ) ps.. i had a mini-crush on the viggen when i was a kid lol
  5. 50 at once?!? would be great to have a "guard" channel - and then have smaller nets for "tactical" comms might help the server/bandwidth if you segregate comms a bit and anyway.. who can keep track of 50 ppl talking at once?? -- real a/c often have two easily accessible channels - and one "covered" net
  6. charts #DashOneFTW but a solid familiarization with the "feel" of the aircraft is necessary - the more i fly it, the more "a part of me" the aircraft is becoming to be sure though, best rate of climb and best angle of climb etc inform my actions..
  7. wait.. is LN building TWO jets?? or just one? because the A+ "is" the B (Bs are newly manufactured - A+ are upgraded As)
  8. to me its inconceivable that two people in one jet don't have comms together wouldn't it be great if DCS incorporated an in-game "radio" system? in this case by "radio" i mean both comms between front- and back-seats, and with other aircraft currently on multiplayer servers there are a lot of ppl who are not even on teamspeak - with the f-14 coming, how would that work? typing messages and reading responses? i think that's totally unworkable - and i think ED needs to get comms "right" - and that means an an integrated communications system
  9. fantastic news ---- already got the money set aside : )
  10. model it according to how it *is* don't worry about "gameplay" what is good or bad for "gameplay" can always be argued -- reality cannot do the research, come up with an answer.. model it
  11. if they have an f-18c, and now an f-14.. they're gonna have to have a carrier sooner or later and if "blue" gets a carrier, the red side is going to be clamoring for their own carrier i like the way this is going : )
  12. if they make american WWII fighters and an american carrier(s?) and they're hinting at japanese a/c to counter the US aircraft.. doesn't that mean that (at lease "eventually") there is going to have to be a japanese aircraft carrier??
  13. i think this is some good innovative thinking at first i thought you were going to say we need a way to have an actual neutral side - non-combatants (which we do) but yeah - i like what you're saying ---- i wonder if ED is able to pull this off..
  14. in the f-15 it seems like there's a higher pitch sound - and it seems like it varies with airspeed
  15. anyone notice any subtle differences in the sounds in this patch? it seems to me like there is a difference, but i don't know if that's just me or if its real ??
  16. yes.. the engine that's shut down turns at a reduced RPM in flight
  17. wowww............
  18. because it seems ppl are having problems with the beta, i bet the public release will get delayed a week or two how much you wanna bet??
  19. if you want to model vietnam, how could you do it adequately without the 105??
  20. i was just surprised and pleased to see that contrails are even a "thing" in DCS yes, they could be better not going to put any requirements on it other than "ED, please make contrails better" -- and let them take it from there so far when they do things, i am mostly very impressed --- they think of things i wouldn't think of, and include features that i would hesitate to request for fear of it being "too little and insignificant" - yet they do it..
  21. also, i think (i seem to remember - ?) the point that the glide slope indicator brings you too is too far down the runway
  22. concur w/ "tough road ahead" just don't quit all i got to say...
