Have you made sure it's set to 75hz and that you are getting above 75 fps?

Mine is also working fine. Look at your keybinds.

Used a TM Warthog and a MS FFB2?
aeliusg replied to Razor5-1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My advice: get a good soldering kit and put that FFB2 back together :pilotfly: She's been with you to long to put her out of service because of a little solder. -
Can we get the dust swirl on landing like in the Mi-8?

Sometime after EDGE along with EGT, etc, etc. So in about 4 months? -
Discrepancy in Visual Perception of Range
aeliusg replied to Igor4U's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
It's the difference in your field of view. Notice the cropping of the terrain at the sides in the chase view. Even though you are "zoomed-out" of the cockpit and behind the aircraft, your view is in fact zoomed-in. You can notice this when you're watching a basketball/football/soccer/etc game. Sometimes the goal seems really far away, and sometimes you're wondering how they could miss the shot because it seems like it's 3 ft away. -
http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA430646 - pdf looking at page 7 it seems a trained user can accurately perceive what is equivalent to about 20/30 consistently. My point is that I wouldn't throw away my cockpit yet, if I'd built one. The Rift provides something new and awesome at the moment, but it isn't what it's supposed to be just yet. I'd say it will be very close in 5-6 years, but don't quote me on it lol. I'm thinking that with Sony's Morpheus in development, Valve's prototype, and strong interest from all across the board, these things could be the next big thing when the next game consoles/consumer entertainment platforms roll around in that time frame. In the meantime HMD's actually provide a relatively inexpensive presence experience, if you're not paying out of your nose on Ebay for a DK2. :P And EDGE :D

Low-persistence OLED is already very good, now things will get proportionally better as resolution increases. Here's a back of the envelope calculation to estimate the perceived visual acuity you get in the Rift: 20/20 vision with the Snellen chart is defined as being able to see the bottom row of letters, the line width of which are designed to subtend 1 minute of arc, or 1/60 of 1 degree, in your FOV, from a calibrated viewing distance (20ft is usual, but if your optometrist has a smaller office, it is different). Each line of the bottom row of letters is about 1 minute wide in your field of view, so if you can distinguish between the different letters it's assumed your eyes can distinguish at least that level of detail. Given the horizontal field of view of the DK2 at 100 degrees, you can take the horizontal resolution of 1080 and divide it by that much. 1080/100 = 10.8, 10.8 pixels per degree is your result. Remember that with 20/20 vision, you can discern detail down to 1 minute of arc, or 1/60 of 1 degree in your field of view. In the case of the DK2 you only get 10 pixels of detail per degree, not 60. So you can say that your vision is 6x worse than 20/20, or 20/120. The pentile arrangement of pixels in the Rift would also make this slightly worse in comparison than if it were RGB, because you have less subpixels making up each pixel, but that's another story. Note that this result is independent of your actual vision. It is also assumed that your eyes are getting the most out of the Rift that they can. The result: you are close to legally blind in the 1080p Rift. And, remember, the FAA guidelines mandate that private pilots have 20/40 or better, with or without corrective lenses. Now if the Rift were 1440p, your vision would get better by 1440/1080, or 33%, giving you 20/90 vision. A 4K Rift? Almost 20/30 vision. 8K? Nearly 20/15, you could be a pro baseball player! Or a jet pilot... Hope this helps!

I'm with you. I have a Warthog myself. It's pretty good. The concept in the CH pic looks like something that would be more than "simple-grade", however.

Thrustmaster Warthog throttle problem
aeliusg replied to Shy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It happens with any product. Look at the F-35. Didn't work too well, and they paid billions (trillions) of dollars for it. In this case you can get a convenient replacement from your retailer instead of dealing with warranty fulfillment since you only just got it. -
Remember CH makes mostly professional-grade stuff. As good as the TM Warthog is, I doubt the US military was using it.

Thrustmaster Warthog throttle problem
aeliusg replied to Shy's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sounds like it's broken (throttle control board). Return it to your retailer for a replacement since it's defective out of box. -
Tried calling them to see if you can drive down and pick it up?

Amusing to see the usual myopic comments on Youtube. What this means if they can take this to production is cheap, ubiquitous displays. Can't wait to see my cereal box animated. In the meantime, OLED TV prices have been dropping steadily. LG's 55EA9800 was recently on sale for only $2000, from its $9000 MSRP, and the new 55EC9300 is at only $4000 MSRP.

Doesn't reset properly as of now because the stick doesn't respond to a 0 constant force.

Anyone using X-65F for helicopters?
aeliusg replied to Razor5-1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would recommend an FFB joystick to any of you for flying helicopters. I use a G940 stick extended by only about 3" for about 6" travel and flying helicopters is a breeze. The FFB2 I believe, has 6" travel already, so you wouldn't even need to modify it. I use simffb for added hydraulic feel and mechanical trim. -
MS Sidewinder FFB 2 - Worth buying?
aeliusg replied to WinterH's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If it works well and doesn't look too bad, this is a bargain even without FSX. FFB means you can physically trim the stick in helicopters, feel the stall in the P-51, trim and feel the stall in the A-10... stuff you can't do even with the most expensive spring-tensioned sticks. Left hand is a no-go however, due to the thumb rest on the left side of the stick, but it's not too late to do things "properly" even after 20 years ;). -
I missed your earlier comment, Doveman. Glad you got it put back together. The small bump at the center is because of the "knocking" you get when one of the spring arms goes back to the center and stops against the plastic bit, so the other arm can get going. The tensioning wheel should be fine as well. All it does is put a little more pressure on the gel in between the center plates when you ratchet it. Try turning it a bit harder one way, and if it doesn't give, turn it a bit harder the other way. :P My Combat Rudder Pedals (same internals) came with the wheel stuck like you're describing. Turns out it was too far counterclockwise. I had to really twist it to get it free. Annoying because I thought my new pedals were broken or I might break them even more trying to fix it. Try holding the bottom part of the circle and twisting the top to give you some extra leverage. The scraping might be a little crumb or something that got in between the plastic plates, not a big deal as long as the pedals feel like they're moving freely. As for the jitter, how big is it? As long as it's not jumping a grid or something, mine and everyone else's seems to do the same. It's probably a fluctuation less than 1% but the line in the panel only shows the next value up so it looks like it's bigger than it really is. I haven't noticed it in practice flying the Huey. I was a bit bothered by it too, at first, but in the scheme of things, unless you've got a full-size cyclic, the little movements in your hands will probably have more of an effect on your flying then the jitter on the pedals, especially if you're flying helicopters.

Performance boost by upgrading to a Geforce 780Tii?
aeliusg replied to Dudester22's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
FYI GTX 880 series is supposed to be coming late this year. Could be worth the wait considering how much a 780 Ti still costs. -
Alright, I'm a little interested. Paypal? Edit: Smooth transaction. Joystick is awesome!
-
I have mine about 3 feet away. No more disorienting than a triple-wide setup in terms of FOV, actually a bit less with the far more reasonable vertical FOV (as compared to 48:9).
-
You'll want to use Displayport. HDMI is trapezoidal in shape, whereas Displayport is a rectangle with a corner cut off.

I use a G940 stick with a Warthog throttle on a little table beside me. If your table is wide enough you could use another set of these to mount your throttle beside your chair as as well. The L-bracket is a little narrow, but it measures wide enough (6") for the rubber feet on the G940 stick and the Warthog throttle, from what I can tell. I'll post pics for you tomorrow so you can get a better idea of the fit and dimensions.
