Supporting wingman's SARH ?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Anyone got any sources that mention these tactics in positive or negative manner? I know I have heard of the flight leader illuminating the target for the wingman to attack. Is there a name for this tactic? -
Supporting wingman's SARH ?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Well even the most primitive radar and SARH missile should work like this. a dumb missile that just intercepts an illuminated target doesn't know who illuminated it. It occurs to me now that he su27 are not possible to use them in the manner they were intended. In groups, illuminating each others targets, so they could make attack runs and break off after firing. Just as they would with fire and forget missiles. This should really be the core tactic of online flankers, but it doesn't work . -
Supporting wingman's SARH ?
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
So will this work with the MIg 21 or the Mirage 2000 ? Anybody tried? -
So I am flying Su27 with my trusty wingman and up ahead is a single F15 with aim120s coming straight at us... Can I slow down and hold a lock on the enemy F15 while my wingman goes in with burners and fires R27er and then breaks away . Will my radar lock illuminate the target for his R27ER in flight? This would effectively make his missile fire and forget so he can evade the incoming slammer. I tried using Tacview to see if this is possible but it seems not to work. Why not? How does the missile know who is illuminating the enemy aircraft, and why does it care ? I was hoping this would be a great team work tactic for flanker pairs to use against Aim120 armed F15c.

can someone please link the software that lets you add spring effect please? It would be better than nothing. Can't really fly the MIrage with any FFB. Still been having great fun flying Mig21 against the mirage online. Mig21 has very nice FFB now.

If you have a Super 530 selected and radar on there is three buttons above the weapon selection lit up. The first one is "RD" i think. If you press it it automatically locks TWS mode onto the closest target. I am using it all the time and it has been a huge help so you don't have to use the TDC to move over and relock the target.

Yeah I was just trying the Mig21 and it has very nice FFB now. So I was looking in the Mig21 files so see if I could just rip the MIgs FFB profiles and stick em in the Mirage folder till we get proper MIrage profiles . But I don't think it is this simple. WHo ever did the FFB for the Mig21 ? Maybe Razbam can ask them to do the Mirage if razbam guys don't own a FFB stick.

Working BVR tactic against modern targets
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to il_corleone's topic in M-2000
"I believe that it's like this in the sim but from the principle of how a radar works it shouldn't behave like this. From the literature I have read, rolling is never mentioned as a maneuver. I believe it is a bug. It should be reported." I think barrel rolling is just cranking in 3 dimensions. I have been doing barrel roll approaches to bleed missile energy too. I was doing my barrel rolls with about 30degree off target though so I was surprised your tiny 5 degree barrel rolls worked. But you were doing mach 2 so the small degree crank is compensated by the high speed. I don't think this is a bug . If you were pointing straight at the target and rolling it wouldn't work. -
Can someone please tell me where to find the manual? I see people in the threads talking about it. Even telling me to read it when I ask questions. Where is it? I google it but nothing. I look on forums but must be blind cause I don't see it. I look in DCS folder in documentation.. nothing. M2000c product page...non Razbam website non. I must be an idiot for over look such an obviously important thing that must be right in front of my face. Please put me out of my misery. A link? mercy

wow . I like it

I don't know anything about BMS. But of course it is disappointing to see that Razbam Mirage is a copy of a their copy. So we inherited all BMS great work and all BMS mistakes. I guess I just naively assumed that the FM was working from some kind of primary sources. It just feels like Razbam copied somebody else's homework and sold it to me . Maybe that is the wrong thing to think. But for a moment I felt like I just paid top dollar for a copy of something they could have downloaded for free.

It's an interesting missile... at least it looks big and impressive on the little mirage! I tried a test head to head 1v1 against an F15 with typical 4x aim120 4x aim9 load out @ 40000ft I did much better than I expected with about 50% win lose ratio after a dozen runs. Most of the time the super530 was just a distraction to get in position for a magic kill, but i did get two kills with the second 530 fired at closer range Has one ever been fired in combat?

Thanks for the replies . Where is this manual ? I don't know where it is. I google and search but nothing ... Really enjoying the bird though. I was just running simple 1v1 head to head against F15 armed with aim120c. At 30,000 ft in head on I could get maximum launch of 30 nm and the Super 530 would reach 4500km/h TAS ! It was actually pretty even win loss ratio . I was surprised how much better the S 530 performs at high altitude . Of course the Mirage can launch it at mach 2 + as well :) acceleration is sterling

Wow I love this plane. SO many things I like about it. I know it is a work in progress and I don't wanna complain too much about the unfinished state because I get to play with it now.... But dam the Alarm noises are so loud and annoying. I told my friends on team speak about my brand new shinny mach 2 jet fighter and they said it sounds like I am riding around on a little elf tricycle honking a little horn. The ended up begging me to stop that beeping noise. The Mirage is like a really good looking girl with a really annoying screechy voice. It looks like there is a volume control next to the RWR display but it doesn't work yet. The many alarm is quite loud and obnoxious too. please give us the key binding to lower these volumes.

Here is a Tac view of me and my wing man evading a pair of AIM120. I was flying lead, I knew the F15 had us in TWS mode and was sure he must have launched so I broke 90 degree right and dove below the horizon relative to his radar. At that moment we were in the notch, with very little doppler red shift or blue shift and so the missile lock was broken. We popped flares and chaff at about the time we went into the notch. So the key is to be in the notch. 90 degree angle to the radar that is traveling toward you and below his horizon. [ame= ] [/ame]

"A Me 262 raid against USAAF B-17s came on March 18, 1945 when 37 262s went up against a formation of 1,221 bombers and 632 escort fighters. " To my mind this is the coolest thing that ever happened EVER! Those JV44 pilots were very experienced combat pilots flying the quad cannon turbo ... Out numbered but not outgunned or out flown. Here are some gun cams of Me262 getting shot down... I especially like Lt G.R. Flowers at 7:41 shooting at a high speed jet with 90' deflection and then watching it excellerate away . Moments later footage of the parachuting pilot confirms the kill. [ame=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc8yFWgdQ3g]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nc8yFWgdQ3g[/ame]

1.5.1.46722.87 Model Visibility removal
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to HornedGod's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I haven't read this whole thread yet but I'm confident that this feature is far from finished so I'm not worried. ED will surely do more work getting it right and give servers control of this setting. It has been interesting to see the capabilities of the radar though. I've been playing around with the Mig29 and I can see the enemy planes above the horizon with pilots eyes long before my radar can pick them up. On small size setting. I can also see that a plane flying 35km away above the horizon turns so I am off his beam and he disappears off my radar. Thats above the horizon not below. If it wasn't for the unfinished and over large enemy aircraft icons I would have just assumed he was below the horizon and notching. At closer range I have also seen a side on plane that I have locked fly in front of a mountain and disappear as he is lost in the mountain radar return and then reappear as he flies off other side of the mountain . As expected. I just expected that above the horizon it would be impossible for him to get in the the notch. Even at longest range my radar can detect him. Anybody else noticed this ? Is this correct for the Mig29 radar? I was looking at F5s -
[REPORTED] 1.5.1 open beta Exhaust smoke
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to lennycutler's topic in Bugs and Problems
I just took the K4 for a spin on the WW2 multiplayer server and after I took off there was a smoke trail extending about 2km or 3km behind me! I thought I must have damaged my engine so I landed and took off again being very careful and conservative... Same thing. I noticed that the AI also have the same smoke exhaust. It is not a bad idea , just way over done. 2 or 3 km long and doesn't dissipate. I could land and warm up another K4, taxi out and the smoke from landing before was still extending 2 km from my landing 5mins earlier! Gee the K4 is fun to fly though. What a beast. At low altitude it has so much more power climb and acceleration than the P51. I was starting to feel sorry for them and toy with them a bit before I killed them . muhahaha Maybe the P51 needs team work, drag and bag, to compete with the K4 at low altitude? -
DCS world Beta Updater wont update
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in Installation Problems
Okay so I have found a workaround. I change the date on my taskbar to the next day and then run DCS beta and it updates, DL maybe 50 to 100mb then times out and I quit and change the date again and run it again. At this rate I will take me 10 rounds of this to DL the 1000mb update. -
Hi I have always had trouble with DCS updater timing out as it downloads and then if I quit it and try to restart DCS it only checks for updates once per day. So it would not download the update on second try.. I could get around this by running the DCS updater.exe but the updater.exe for 1.5 Beta doesn't check for updates. It just starts the older version. So In short beta1.5 checks for update once per day and then times out after 50mb and then I can't do anything about it till the next day. Making it impossible for me to play multiplayer :(

This is interesting, now that you mention it I never even thought about why we leave the "APU" on. I wonder if the engine having 2 compressor stages makes it easier to start with less power? Maybe the starter spins up only one of the stages? I'm guessing the low pressure stage, which then spins up the high pressure. Maybe it is the other way around. Anyone know what the advantage of two stage compressor over one stage is?

Hi I have been trying to learn BVR tactics for F15, Su27, Mig29 and have been diving into the notch to break locks and it works quite well. Since 1.5 beta came out I have wondered if this effect has been increases and notching is even more effective , but maybe this is just because I have been flying the Mig 29 more and it does not seem to have as good look down, shoot down radar as F15 or su27. Correct me if I am wrong about that. Anyway I was just practicing with simple mission of 1v1 head on against AI over water and decided to try MIg21bis vs F15 and see what the detection range was for small mig21bis. It seemed that the F15 would not detect mig21 head on until quite close. 30 nm? So with me flying mig 21 very low over the sea I then turned into the notch and used the RWR to stay 90 to the F15 radar. Flying a curve as he approached . On The first two attempts he shot me down with aim120b but only WVR. On third attempt I shot him down with IR missile once I saw him and got on his tail. Does the radar on the f15 see me flying in the notch at close range or is the range irrelevant? I mean can I just go online in a Mig21 and when a single f15 approaches me get in the notch stay there till I see him WVR? It seems too good to be true that he would not be able to see me at all, if I am lower and notching .

When I first tried Mig21 with my new MSFFB2 I was sure something was wrong and started a thread about it too. I knew about all flying tails producing no dynamic stick forces with speed but thought maybe a spring stick would be a better approximation of real Mig21 and maybe the FFB stick should mimic a spring stick? Then I read the english translation of the Mig21bis flight manual, which states that stick forces remain constant at all speeds. As already explained this is due to the all moving tail planes. How ever I do feel the stick tighten with G forces . You say you don't? I think the 1.5 beta was quite improved from the 1.2 FFB for Mig21. I get better feel with 1.5 than 1.2. Also the ARU is been loosened up and you can pull AOA till stall, or ride on edge of stall. Which is very nice. I get good feedback for this from Gforce. I also am getting satisfactory feedback from the other models too. Maybe your FFB needs to be adjusted ?

Yes I know what you mean about much of the trim range being of no practical use. I have wondered if the original 109 design was a lighter plane with a centre of gravity further forward and the trim system was designed for this earlier version. As the weight increased with each successive version the airframe was pushed past it's original trim design. I agree it is a handful compared to the other two planes. It is the lightest with the highest power to weight I believe, and the torque is a challenge to control. But at slow speeds I can just muscle up and out of trouble with all that power and climb away from a mustang on my tail. Anyway I get the feeling that force feedback has a self trimming aspect to it. Has anybody else wondered about this or experienced something similar?

Elevator Trim vs Stick Elevator Control
Dirty Rotten Flieger replied to Captain Orso's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
They say that the trim tab has a leverage advantage over the elevator. Pushing the elevator is torque on the hinge but he trim tab uses the elevator as a lever to pivot the hinge. I am happy with this explanation but when I first considered the trim tabs I wondered why the trim tab and elevator don't reach an equilibrium where they both exert equal and oposite effects and net result is not affect. It's the leverage advantage of the trim tab.
