I have at least two sorties where Jester didn't spot the incoming AI contacts at all (Germany map, co-alt about 28000 feet). But it was multiplayer and there might have been something funky going on with the server. I will try not be co-alt and see if it helps. Perhaps I should position myself significantly lower and ask Jester to elevate the radar? The most frustrating part for me is seeing the incoming contrails, hearing the AWACS call, seeing the RWR indications and Jester pretty much stays quiet into the merge I might also have overestimated the radar performance a bit. Seems like it sits between the Cyrano IV on the Mirage F1 and the AN/APQ-159 on the F-5E Tiger II. Boresight is probably a better way to go under many day conditions.

Jester seems to have a LOT of issues with finding contacts on radar. But IF he's very lucky, it's still very difficult for him to lock up and keep bandits locked. This is at high altitudes (25000 feet, hot) and in clear sky. Perfect conditions. Several times, I could see how Jester fiddled around with the radar but he still couldn't get a lock, even though I could visibly see their contrails and clearly see the contacts on the display in the front seat. Is it possible to perform reliable BVR when flying Solo with Jester? Like asking Jester to operate radar differently etc.

It seems that Aerges completely changed the file structure for the cockpit and indication textures. I tried to install the English cockpit mod (to get optimized 4K textures) and it was also a no-go.

Caucasus just has a very good layout for a multiplayer map. With that perfect coastline running from north to south and high mountains in the middle. Airfields are well placed and within practical distances too. That's why players are still on the map (in multiplayer).

Potential mistake in MiG-29A FAQ about R-27ER and R-27ET
Schmidtfire replied to quantum97's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
At the end of the day, it's about offering a MiG-29 experience. Options to use the ER, ET and even R-77(!) would be good things. With only 1 variant and full asking price of $79.99 USD, it's important to be somewhat flexible to the audience needs. Everyone benefits from DCS: MiG-29 Fulcrum module being a successful module. I'm not advocating going full fantasy or anything, but adding a few more "plausible" loadout options to appeal to a broader audience will sell more modules. It also give more options to create more modern "what if" scenarios. As long as there is transparency what weapons has been added as "ED version", I can't see any downsides to it... -
Thrustmaster Warthog with FA-18 ?
Schmidtfire replied to Minskie's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
It's your money. But there might be other things that could offer a better allround flying experience than a dedicated F/A-18 grip. The Thrustmaster Warthog product is about 15 years old now and there are some tricks to have a better time with it. Thrustmaster Warthog improvement list: *Stick Extension - for higher precision *Nyogel 767a - lubricant *Delta Sim Electronics - Analog slew button replacement (unless your Warthog throttle has a late serial) Other hardware: *Headtracker *Rudder pedals -

Twelve years of development and it reads like it might still be a year or two left on the journey to release... Hats off for the persistence and not giving up. Very impressed by the level of simulation of the Bo-105 you are trying to achieve

If this former MiG-29 pilot is to believed, the weapons computer on the Luftwaffe MiG-29 (9.12) would accept the ER and display the expanded WEZ. They put different simulator-plugs/data cards on the inboard missile rails to simulate both the 27R and 27ER.
-
Poor performance compared to what? I'm sure it will hold it's own against most Cold War aircraft currently in DCS.

Looks great, but no rush when there is no release date

S-21 was very much a real thing. In the video below you can see it briefly when a MiG-17 taxi past camera at the 0:25 seconds mark. Again in the air at 0:40. Launches of the S-21 are also shown.

Polish Lim-5/6 could be armed with 57mm S-5 rocket pods or bombs, so that would be nice as options now that we have a new map for the MiG-17F. Never heard about any S-24 capability. Sounds cool, but needs to be verified.

Will the vacuum cleaner engine sounds ever be updated?
Schmidtfire replied to Punkmonkey22's topic in AV-8B N/A
sdef_and_wave_list.txt can be found in the following directory: DCS World OpenBeta\Doc\Sounds\ It's a complete list of all necessary sounds + examples and a readme for "how to mod". But since the sounds of AV8BNA is unencrypted you can find all necessary sound and sdef files in DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\AV8BNA\Sounds -
Early F-16A would be awesome. But unlikely coming from ED as they usually have little interest to model older stuff.
-
There are currently issues with the RSBN on the Germany map: This is most likely not an ED/core issue an should probably be highlighted in the Magnitude 3 and Ugra Media sections.

How is JF-17 still listed as Early Access after 5 years?
Schmidtfire replied to DmitriKozlowsky's topic in JF-17 Thunder
To be fair, Heatblur is doing worse. The AJS-37 Viggen was released January 2017 and is still in Early Access -
I found this very interesting study. Maps complete with SAM placement and coverage rings. DDR Strategic Air Defense: A Cold War Case Study https://geimint.blogspot.com/2008/08/ddr-air-defense-cold-war-case-study.html

F14 not authorized / antivirus / false positive
Schmidtfire replied to Semaphore's topic in Bugs and Problems
In the end, it is not a good look and perhaps even triggering some refunds on Steam. Not all players know what causes the issue or if there's a workaround available. And I know at least two players that got so frustrated that they avoid using their HB modules. Any mention of a workaround is met by suspicion or "I rather play it safe than be sorry". That said. If nothing else can be done, so be it. I have not have any issues myself and I would use the workaround if needed -
F14 not authorized / antivirus / false positive
Schmidtfire replied to Semaphore's topic in Bugs and Problems
I own many games and it is not a standard procedure needing to exclude the game from the Antivirus in order to play. Perhaps a developer can explain more in detail, but this issue most likely stems from bad practices or an unconventional approach. I'm glad there's a workaround available, but a commercial 80(!) dollar product should not get flagged as malicious. -
I get Lock-On Sound, but without Launch Authorization
Schmidtfire replied to Rudel_chw's topic in Weapons
It seems like you actually pointed out the solution with the picture of the manual. Perhaps no need to doubt Highlighted in yellow: 1. When the missile head is ready, you will see a MHR (Missile Head Ready?) light on the radar screen and hear a lock sound. It's the Missile seeker head seeing the target. Next sentence: 2. When the distance markers enter the launch zone, the Light LAUNCH will become visible on the radar screen. So the event is divided in two stages: MHR light + Lock sound. Markers within launch zone -> Launch Light visible It's kind of confusing the way it is written in the manual. But I'm quite sure it is correct. -
I get Lock-On Sound, but without Launch Authorization
Schmidtfire replied to Rudel_chw's topic in Weapons
My guess is that the R-3R seekerhead is detecting reflected energy from the locked target out of kinematic range, generating a tone. MiG-21 radar complex calculates when the target is within missile range, then gives pilot a Launch Authorization. This is from the Mirage-2000C update 18/11/2021: The Super 530D seeker is now simulated and will require to be locked on the target before the missile can be fired. This lock is indicated by a 650 Hz tone (same as the MAGIC lock tone) and by the missile status letter being circled on the VTH. The seeker range should be above the missile kinematic range in most cases but could result in bad surprises in look down scenarios. So it's possible that the same logic applies for a radar guided R-3R on the old MiG-21bis. Here is a very old tutorial from one of the all time greats, xxJohnxx. If you listen closely (difficult to hear), there is a tone when he is locked on, but out of range. So it's been like this from the beginning. That's my theory anyways, but maybe one of the developers can comment on this -
[Bug] - Radar can see "Late Activated" aircraft BEFORE they activate
Schmidtfire replied to Rudel_chw's topic in Avionics
I can confirm. It's even possible to detect, lock and shoot missiles at invisible "non activated" aircraft . This test was done on Caucasus map. I tried both IL-76MD (same as Rudel_chw) and with F/A-18C Lot 20. -
I wish for an option in the Mission Editor to set a % slider of AI Thrust and G pull capability. It's hopeless facing the AI in dogfights. With WWII (and jets), the AI defies physics and will always be at an energy advantage while the player is bleeding speed and stalling out. AI also needs further work, but a slider to limit the AI SFM can solve a lot of current issues with not too much work.
