saturated colours

It also depends on monitor. In my case I found the colors to be too washed out until I changed my monitor. -
DCS F-14 Update: JESTER AI Behind the Scenes Recording & Multicrew
OnlyforDCS replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Indeed, I just hope we get our grubby little hands on this fantastic module way before ACTUAL xmas 2018 if you know what I mean  -
* DCS: F-14 Development Update! Scan, Lock, Fire! *
OnlyforDCS replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Please, don't get bogged down in the details! The Lantirn is cool and everything but if ED can release the F18 into early access with 75% of its weapon and sensor functionality missing, I think we can live without the Lantirn, or Jester knowing how to use the Lantirn on launch :) -
AIM-7 Performance

Of course not. However for those of us who have been following it closely, the issue with missiles in DCS has been an ongoing one for several years now. It has definitely been longer than a "few weeks". The Hornet's radar issue is completely separate from the problems that the AIM7 in particular, and all missiles in general share in DCS. Im sure that ED will quickly implement and solve the Hornet's radar problems, however that is a discussion which belongs in another thread anyway. -

Try the Aim7m on the F15C. You will see similar results. -
AIM-7 Performance

Im pretty sure that they will always deflect their fins to maximum when maneuvering. That is what I mean when I say they maneuver at their max g limits. I.E. they will do short full deflections of their fins. Are you saying that they don't do this? -
This is great news!

In all seriousness, once Heatblur's Tomcat is released into EA Im willing to bet that one of the first MP servers to go up will be a F5 vs Tomcat dogfight server :) Can't beat those Mig28 doing their 4g inverted dive! :P

F-14 May Development Update -- Campaigns & Content!
OnlyforDCS replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I have a feeling that they could release the Tomcat whenever they want into EA, its just that the whole situation with the F18C came up, so decided to hunker down and get some more things in. -
Get the biggest monitor that you can for the resolution youre gunning for. One other thing is the panel. Make sure its a high contrast panel. I know a lot of people will recommend to get a high refresh rate monitor, but those usually suffer with regards to image quality and contrast, and contrast is what you want when spotting those far away dots. 24 inches at 1080p or higher is too small. Likewise a 27" inch for 2K. If youre going for 1440p (2k) you need a 32 inch monitor at least, or you will need to drop your resolution to 1080p.

Not sure where to put this so Ill just ask here instead of opening another thread. Is ED planning on adding an AI refueling Superbug with that will help top off Hornets and Tomcats during Case2 and Case3 recovery?

AIM-7 Performance
OnlyforDCS replied to HawkDCS's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I think people are still a little bit confused regarding with how missile modeling works in DCS. From what I've been able to gather Ill try and summarize it as succintly as possible. (Please feel free to correct any of my mistakes IASGATG & GGTharos): 1) Missiles have terminal guidance, inertial and radio correction flight phases. (Depending on make and type some have one or more of these ) 2) Because of the way the code works missiles always maneuver at their max. G limits regardless of their flight phase. For example: Say a particular missile needs to loft, instead of lofting at a steady 3 or 4gs, the missile guidance logic will make it do a series of small high g corrections, which will end up giving the same flight profile but will introduce significant ammounts of drag. Another example In the case of the Aim7m: You fire the missile at range, the target starts maneuvering. Instead of initially following the target with steady low g turns, the missile's fins will do quick fast max g inducing corrections. This will end up giving it the exact same flight path, however as in the first example with siginficant ammounts of added drag. 3) There is something odd about atmospheric modeling in DCS and how it interacts with missiles. This is not a guidance problem as IASGATG stated, to put it into as few words as possible: in high and fast situations (with non maneuvering targets) missiles have the range that they should, however down low they are significantly draggier than their RL counterparts. -
AIM-7 Performance
OnlyforDCS replied to HawkDCS's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I can't be bothered to look for the post, but Heatblur commented on the problematics of missile kinematics in DCS and how they are handling it with regards to the AIM54. It boils down to G limits. They are artificially lowering the G limit on the AIM54 so that it retains some of its legendary reach. It will definitely not be as potent as its real-life counterpart but it was the only way they could get partly past the "terminal guidance off the rail" issues that all missiles share in DCS. Not exactly a fix, more like a band-aid, but better than nothing. -

I've been reading variations of the subject of this thread for years now on these forums. I wouldn't hold my breath on things changing anytime soon, or at all. Let's hope Im completely wrong about this, but you know what they say about hope right? ;) -

F-14 May Development Update -- Campaigns & Content!
OnlyforDCS replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
In the end I too held off on the Hornet. I almost did get it a week before its release, but life, expenses, etc, got in the way. Now Im waiting for some more news on the F14. I will probably end up getting both at some point, but the Tomcat is the priority in my book. -
A multitude of questions for operating the Hornet
OnlyforDCS replied to Magic Zach's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Will this be modelled? -
Whats with the autothrottle on "if desired"? I thought throttle management was key on carrier landings?
-
It is most definitely a drag issue which is closely related to guidance, there is ample evidence for this and even the guys from Heatblur have commented on it: regarding how they have had to lower the G limits on the AIM54, so that it could have its historical range. How the missiles are currently implemented in DCS, each time a missile makes a course correction a significant amount of drag is induced, much higher than it should be in real life, which is why no one even bothers with Rmax shots because as soon as their engines stop producing thrust they are basically useless against any maneuvering targets.

Ok, thanks for the clarification people. The F18C always looked a bit daunting to me with its many systems, etc. but the more videos I watch and the more info I find out all the systems seem to be very straightforward and logical. It will require a bit more hands off flying than Im used to from say the Mirage2000C or any of the FC3 planes, but it doesn't look as nearly as complicated as it appears at first glance to be.
-
Thanks Retu, Im still unsure of what the relevant symbology is supposed to represent though. Can anyone clarify?
-
I guess I did :) No I did see it but Im completely ignorant of the symbology so I didn't even know it represented the DLZ. I guess Ill go and have another look.
-
Am I missing something in all the promo videos or is it not yet implemented in the pre-release press versions of the F18C?
-
Ok, thanks for the help guys. Will be sticking with Win7 for now.

Anyone have any experience with a similar hardware configuration and going from Windows7 to Win10? I've been waiting for a while now for the OS to mature and I guess its probably safe to say it's growing pains are kind of over, would it be a worthwhile time to upgrade or should I just stick with Windows 7 until I get a new PC? My full specs are in the signature.
