  1. Thank you guys Looks like I'm over thinking it, unusual, thinking let alone over thinking is not a term used about my decision making processes :clown_2:
  2. Gotcha jojo Thank you very much for the input it's appreciated Still find refueling in a crosswind a handful, but I am the world's worst pilot
  3. Ok I hear where you're coming from, I'm just relaying what I've found so far but need to experiment more. It could be my imagination or perhaps just lucky attempts I'm not sure how accurate the modelling is but I would think a light fighter would be far more strongly affected by a crosswind component than a large tanker heavy with fuel However I'm not a pilot Your answers are appreciated jojo it's probably me that's got it all wrong, my wife always tells me that anyway
  4. Interesting jojo The reason for using the pitch ladder was I found that if you haven't trimmed to counteract the wind vector your aircraft is partially crabbing through the air Using the center of the heading tape means no account is being made for the sideways component, when I did this the basket would then tend to move sideways as I approached If instead I used the top of the pitch ladder, which was offset in the HUD and therefore taking the sideways motion into account the basket did not swing nearly as much making the approach and plug in easier. I need to experiment some more and record some video to demonstrate as it's easier to comprehend
  5. I ask here as I'm currently spending more time in the Mirage at the moment Further to the thread where I commented on how difficult I found the Mirage to refuel with in comparison to the Hornet, I'm now trying to refine my procedure and refuel in a crosswind. On the Aerobatics On Line Beta server the C-130 is at 11000ft the IL-78 at 15000 and the higher you go the stronger the winds I can refuel with the Herc after a few attempts and can plug into the IL-78 but usually never stay connected for long. On both the Mirage and Hornet the Flight path marker is out of center and I learned that to plug in you align the top of the center of the pitch ladder to the base of the pod that the hose reels out from and not simply the center of the HUD. However once plugged in, it gets pretty sporty and I'm experimenting with dialing in rudder trim to move the pitch ladder to the center of the HUD. With the Hornet only rudder trim is required but with the Mirage there appears to be a significant roll element as well (because of the delta wings?) I just wondered what others do, as so far my experimentation hasn't lead to me to a firm conclusion on the best way to achieve a connection and stay connected
  6. Looks very nice indeed and is tempting I wonder what the throw or total throttle travel length is? It looks quite long & the longer the better. I had reservations on the Virpil as the throw looked a little short. I don't have a preference on linear Vs arc travel & don't care if it mimics a real aircraft throttle or not, as long as it's comfy and ergonomic. I'm currently using the hog throttle but very rarely fly the hog in the sim Wonder what the materials are especially the throttle handles. I just hope they make them in sufficient quantity as that is currently VKB's Achilles heel
  7. Lixma Thank you Yes that is exactly what the problem was I thought I was loosing it...............the wierd thing is I've flown all sorts of modules in there with Easy Comms Disabled but the Mirage is the only one that I actually noticed What a dumpling I am
  8. I'm pretty new to the Mirage but really liking the module The Radios seem to work as advertised in SP When I go into the Aerobatics On Line Beta server the radios just are not working I cannot use manual channel select the wheels don't work and the select switch reverts back to where it originally was Activating either radio gets me no comms menu either, it just looks like it's totally screwed up in MP I have yet to try another server though Radios are on & power amp selected to 1 with the volumes of both radios up to full, still no joy I'm probably just doing summit stoopid but no clue what
  9. As far as I can tell from the JSGME/OVGME folder structure it goes into Mods and Sounds then into various subfolders after that I suppose you could try making a Sounds folder in Saved Games and then copying the appropriate sub folders there and into Mods. I'd be reluctant to do this myself as at best I don't think it will work and at worst screw DCS up entirely then you would need to do a repair. If you download it you can see where the files go by simply looking at the file structures Downloading and running either JSGME or OVGME is not particularly difficult or heavy on disc space. OVGME in particular is quite easy to install and use
  10. Oh fantastic tips The A/G is the Gain Limiter Yes? I knew about it but yet to try tanking with it, guess it limits gain therefore makes the aircraft less twitchy The trim on Speed I had no idea about, at the moment I'm only scratching at the surface and need to learn more, I never knew about that, I'll certainly give it a try Many Thanks
  11. After, well maybe not, mastering the Tanking in the Hornet but at least being bale to fill the tanks occasionally I thought I'll take the Mirage up for a spin I purchased the model a good while back but with one thing and another never really got around to flying it much at all. How hard can it be? It's SO Twitchy, which is fantastic for air 2 air maneuvering not so hot for tanking I've just managed my first fill hooking up to an IL78 at around 225k IAS at 15000 It's weird thing it feels so twitchy to connect, but if aligned when you hit the hose it's more stable than the Hornet during the fill There are some really annoying things about it like no fader for the HUD (I'm using a mod to at least help a little) and a lack of axes generally then I'm also having difficulty with making a custom view for centering the Track IR, which doesn't slew the HUD (I have a workaround) But it's an absolute blast to fly, loving it and I've barely scratched the surface:thumbup:
  12. Hi & welcome There are various ways to install mods and skins depending on your preferences JSGME/OVGME are programs that replace the original in game file with your modified files and save the originals to another directory. When you want to disable a mod, you uncheck it and JSGME/OVGME replaces the originals back into the game. This is important as DCS updates just about every week and will overwrite all your mods** if you leave them in the game directory. So nearly everybody I know of disables all the mods, does the update, then re-enables. ** Unless they are in Saved Games (see below) I much prefer OVGME to JSGME, but you can take a look at both, there is a sticky for JSGME near the top and the OVGME details can be found here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=171956 Next is liveries or skins, you can keep them in JSGME/OVGME or you can use the Saved Game folder under "users/your_name/Saved Games/Open Beta (if you are running the open beta version, it will be something else if running the stable version.) In there you will find a Liveries directory, click on it then your aircraft (you may have to make a directory for the aircraft if it's not in there). The Saved Games directories are not overwritten during updates so can be used to store liveries (and mods for that matter if you want to go that way). Remember with liveries if they have a country specified in the description.lua with the skin, they will only show if you use that country in the mission editor (personally I don't like this, but some find it useful). You can edit out or delete countries in the description.lua and then they will show up no matter the country. To edit luas use Notepad++ or some other editor don't use Windows Notepad or it stands a chance of screwing up the lua by placing extraneous characters https://notepad-plus-plus.org/ You're going to love it, modes and skins are so much fun and add a lot to the game
  13. Thanks CH I think have all the JASDF skins already and agree they are absolutely stunning Big thanks again to you too, JASDF have the best painters and artists in the military aviation world by some margin
  14. Thank you so much AWESOME skin One question CH, you credit GeorgeLKMT on the download section and tell us to check his skins I tired a search in the section and failed. Do you have a link?
  15. Looks Fantastic
  16. When you are ready CHCubZero I'll be waiting It's really good to know that it's not dead and coming to an F-15 near you soon  Thanks for letting us know
  17. Thanks Ok I get yours it's easy because they are labelled. However my problem is nearly all the downloaded skins I have are not labelled as to which model they refer to & the skins textures are labelled SA342_****** where the **** refers to the texture type. So how do I know which is which? I suppose I could just put all of them into the various folders for each Gazelle variant and see which ones work in the preview in the mission editor The point is if the skins are all different for each variant why are the all just labelled SA342? Your help is much appreciated Oh and thanks for the skin
  18. Thanks Texac I'll take a look myself and fix it Oh and double thanks for the skin it's a beauty
  19. It's been a long long time since I updated the skins on the MiG-29C/MiG-29S I was doing some cleaning up and trying to reload some skins However I'm getting what looks like part of a Bort number or a missing section showing for nearly all my skins This aircraft was the Gromorov Test Skin which is newest skin I have and even it exhibits this strange behaviour. Can anybody help me as to what I'm doing wrong or what I need to do to fix it
  20. CH any news? I know it's completely up to you and it may never happen BUT just letting you know it's number 1 on my list of MUST DOWNLOADS and when it becomes available
  21. I'm not new to DCS but fairly new to helicopters and a complete novice with the Gazelle First thing I'm trying to do is install some skins, but I don't understand how it works with the multiple versions I'm ASS-zooming that in your Saved Games you have all the versions as in the game itself so I end up with my Liveries folder looking like this Given that I only see one skin in general for the Gazelle from downloaded skins what goes where? Apologies if this is obvious it's just not to me and I tried to search but couldn't get a satisfactory explanation
  22. I'm not saying it's not got its uses Rudel I can see the point of it I just spent yesterday eliminating the country parameter from all my skins and I have a lot. I would agree if all the skinners stuck to some sort of convention but they don't. I'm not complaining about it I am grateful for all the beautiful artwork given to us for free. It's just an observation, when I was finding skins for example where the livery was for one country and the "country" parameter was for another (it happens a lot). I was finding some beautiful skins I didn't know I had Horses for courses & God help us if we were all the same, it just does not suit my needs that's not to say it's not really useful for others. The brilliant thing is DCS has given us the choice to use the feature or ditch it
  23. Couple of things I hate the countries limitation. When I download a skin the first thing I now do is erase the countries line in the description.lua. The skin will then show up regardless of the country. I name the skin by aircraft and airforce then the original title so I know which skin belongs with which particular country if I want to be geographically correct. I use OVGME for the majority of my downloaded skins but keep some of the ones I really like in saved games. The path I use is Bazar/Liveries/P-51D If I see a skin I really like in the game folders I make a separate copy just to avoid things like updates wiping skins I don't want to loose. The main thing is to back up things like skins and settings, to often a glitch will wipe them out leaving you without skins and hours trying to re-input settings
  24. I'm a beginner with the ME but a couple of things As Ramsay stated you need to tie the instructions to the unit Do you have the ICLS & TACAN set up for all the waypoints? IF you don't it may deactivate these when moving from WP 1 to 2 etc: So you need to repeat the TACAN & ICLS for all waypoints I notice you have the radio set up to FM, normally it would be AM check to see that you don't have the radio in the jet on AM (& Sedlo beat me to it) The HUD on the F-18 is pretty funky and not like other aircraft, it will move if you move your head this could be just due to TrackIR (or others) causing the problem or if you have winds or some sort of asymmetry in the jet the Flight Path Marker will move along with the pitch ladder to indicate the jet is crabbing (it's a feature not a bug). You can cage the HUD to stop this. Those who know the ME better will no doubt chime in, but the ME can be a little temperamental if you don't set it up exactly as it's is meant to be. Sometimes I'll not do something like assign the function to the unit and it will work then others times it won't, so you need to go through all the steps if you want it to be reliable
  25. Thank you Ramsay That answers the question and solves my mystery
