AJS-37 Viggen livery wishes and discussions
Weegie replied to CHSubZero's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I use OVGME and put them in this path, if the folder does not exist just make one CoreMods\aircraft\AJS37\Liveries\AJS37 You could also use the Saved Games/Liveries and create an AJS37 folder in there and it would probably work but I haven't tried that.............so could be taking out my ASS -
I've experienced the last 2 of your problems and the first one might be the reason server behavior seems to me so unpredictable at the moment. A few weeks back a friend could see me I could not see him yet I was next to him, both of us in Spits, on TeamSpeak Generally at the moment I'm experiencing quite a bit of server trouble, not finding a server, my server list totally de-populated (requires an exit and restart) getting kicked for no reason
-
Ok I'm ready for a bunch of sarcasm and general put downs My question is why when the tail wheel in the Dora is unlocked does the aircraft swing so unpredictably and abruptly compared with the Spit. I have no facts to bring to this argument but surely the Spitfire is more akin to a motorcycle with the main gear wheels being so close together, the Dora more like a trike, so the Dora would be the more predictable of the 2 to taxi with an unlocked tail wheel. I've spent a lot of time in the Spit and have now been refreshing myself in the Dora and I just find that it seems to swing more violently than the Spit and is a lot less predictable/controllable. When swinging one way and wishing to go the other and trailing the opposite brake, nothing usually much happens then BANG it starts to swing violently the other way......its like the tail wheel is stuck then suddenly frees itself with a vengeance. The Spit isn't easy but providing it's caught early it's behavior is quite predictable. I just cannot do the same in the Dora and waddle down taxiway like a Penguin until I get stick back Perhaps my technique is all wrong if so I'd love to be enlightened

[Video] Aerobataics Online Server Moments & Crashes
Weegie replied to Devrim's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Love it Devrim It's my go to server, it's a hoot lots of laughs and a good crowd -
Ok with nautical miles now in brackets Better quality version here https://www.dropbox.com/s/mj7k24px5rju4t3/Caucasus%20Schematic.jpg?dl=0 If anybody finds mistakes or goof ups just shout up  Now to crack on with Imperial!!!!
-
Thank you I've loaded it up as instructed but yet to try it, looking forward to it Can I just point out for simplification (if I have it correct) that with OVGME you need to make a new category for Tacview then follow the instructions as per the Readme, I struggled for a bit until the "penny dropped"
-
You guys are starting to embarrass me Swedish mile = 10kliks I think so that means it could use the metric version Charly Owl (how are you & thank you for all the guides) I could certainly put the nautical miles and the Km on the map for distances so the metric version covers both (to an extent) but runway lengths, widths elevations will only be in metric, otherwise it will end being crowded and I'm trying to avoid that The imperial version will have imperial only and all elevations lengths etc: in feet MikeMikeJuliet I could have a crack at it later or if it's beyond me somebody else can take the Excel Sheet with the airports and butcher it to your requirements, I agree it's a very good idea. If your willing to give me some pointers I'll give it a go though John
-
Ok you've convinced me I'll get to work on the Imperial version and put it up in the Downloads section Give me a few days I'll update the first post with a link when/if Ed deems it good enough If not I'll just put up a link in the first post to a Dropbox Thanks for letting me know John

why should the stick be held backward during taxi?
Weegie replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
I was just going to add that tip about the wheelbrake increase/decrease command. I have it mapped to the CMS Fwd/Back but wherever is comfortable for you. It's also a great way to apply the brakes during landing once rudder authority has decreased to zero, a quick flip and the brakes are on. As a virtual pilot, I understand the "Haul it Back" brigade but as mentioned it's not necessary and IMHO makes little difference. I don't even have the stick back on take off, following YoYo's advice and the Spit flies herself off without any problem. Action on the rudder can get quite busy, but apart from that no problem -
So here is the first complete attempt. There are probably mistakes, the distances & bearings were taken from Mission Editor so I'm ASS-uming True North. The distances are in Km and all airport info metric for now (until I compile a version in Imperial, Nautical Miles, Ft etc) So the idea is if flying from one field to another the first bearing read from the departure to the destination is the bearing you fly eg: Anapa to Krymsk you fly 091 Runways have elevations & headings, below that dimensions This was just to see if anybody had other ideas or wanted something changed
-
Yeah that is a good idea and the initial idea was for it to be a kneeboard sheet option. I hate the way I have to constantly page all over the kneeboard to get information on geography. At the moment it's to scale, the fields were taken from Lino's map and then the map was deleted leaving only the field location. I'll use the Mission editor to get headings and distances. It should be easy to make both an imperial and metric version to suit on the aircraft you're flying Once I have the current version complete then I can abandon the scale and simply have the drawing as a schematic where the distance between the fields are not representative of true distance, but still retain some semblance of how they are related to each other with goal of a kneeboard page in mind Just reading Franky's last reply too, if I can't get into a page then I'd split it over several, but finding a way to squeeze all that info onto a page is a challenge. Might need to use field codes etc: to reduce clutter. I'll keep you guys posted it's simple stuff compared with what most of you do, but if it's going to help I'm willing to persevere and spend a bit of time on it
-
I'm working on this on & off Not sure if anybody else is interested. As I'm hopeless at remembering where all the fields are, have only a single monitor and excellent as Lino's map is, it's just a bit too complex for a quick "on the fly" look at where the fields are relative to each other So I'm making this, the lines will have distance and headings, possibly runway headings too. The idea is to make something really simple that can be either printed to an A3 sheet or just looked at quickly to give basic info If anybody has any ideas, criticisms, suggestions or amendments please speak up. If its a success I'll possibly try something similar with Normandy and Nevada So for those who don't want to trawl through finding the download (and I cannot blame you) Here is the link to finding it in the downloads section https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3133796/

jfri Depends what you want to do with it. I'm not a combat guy, I just like learning to fly them But it comes down to, do you want another hot shot dogfighter or do you want something that's a bit of a challenge. Spit has the best modeled pit IMHO and is the most fun to learn and if I can master it anybody can. Anyway my recommendation is get it & I'll bow out and hope others chime in to help you with other opinions on the Spit

All I can say is my Spit never tires of plotting & scheming to find new and interesting ways to kill me. Maybe I just got a rogue one :joystick:

I haven't flown FSX, but in DCS it is an entirely different kettle of fish to the Stang Don't take my word look either at YouTube or the frustrations by many on here trying just to taxi and take off. It's all down to the individual, but as far as the Warbirds in DCS IMHO you will be going from one of the easiest to taxi, take off and land to probably the hardest. I can only tell you how it was for me, you might find it a "Piece of Cake" Don't let me put you off, it's a great module, a lotta fun, but be prepared for some initial frustration that's all. I fly it more than any other by a long way because it's so challenging There is a Auto Rudder and a Take Off assist you can use to help when you first try it. I've flown from day one with both off Here is a couple of YouTube clips I made recently for Take Off and Landing, might give you a flavor
-
Can't help on the fighting or the tutorials others will chime in Early access is just stuff gets tuned and features added, it's a pretty good module as it stands right now IMHO it's considerably more difficult than the P-51, especially taxi, take off and landing due to the free castoring tail wheel (it cannot be locked) Once in the air it's a joy to fly and a great turner but slow compared to the other warbirds. If you like a challenge and want to try something different it's a great buy. Very challenging and rewarding when you start to get the hang of it. Do you have rudders? If not you will be in for a very frustrating time, personally I couldn't fly it without them
-
Or if you want French skins select that country in the Mission Editor Saburo's suggestion is better, but if you are unsure about editing Lua files, then selecting the country you want the skin for usually brings it up
-
Thank you for a great Christmas present Jafa I'd gladly throw some money your way, if you had some place to donate too Sure many others on here would too

Just as I thought I had it nailed again I started to get a lot of problems with landing again. I could put it down Ok but then I was getting a really vicious swing to the left. Now at landing I have the rudder trim between PORT & RUDDER and that seems to work a lot better. What I don't understand is why do I need so much rudder trim on an idling engine.

See Vyrtuoz's post #657 on page 66, if you've not done that already It's working for me in the latest patch since applying that fix

Introducing the VKB-Sim ‘Modern Combat Grip’ (MCG)
Weegie replied to rrohde's topic in VKB-SIM Flight Gear
Another hit from Sokol.................many thanks sir -
Does sound very good although I wish Black Hat (I can't remember what he posts here as) would release his sound pack...........it's awesome and I'd gladly pay for it as an add on On the rudder I noticed I need a lot more trim at takeoff now before I had the trim to "R" in Rudder now I'm at "O" in port. When I first tried it out at first I was getting horrid wing dips to the left. I don't know if it's my imagination but I'm also finding landing a little different too. I wouldn't say harder but I have add to alter my style a little to get acceptable landings without visits to the spray shop.
-
Unless I have it wrong the Spitfire does have differential braking but it's activated by a combo of rudder position and brake lever on the stick Rudder position controls the magnitude of the differential, in other words if you have full left rudder for example then all brake force will be routed to the left gear wheel only. If you have the rudder somewhere in between then the braking applied to each wheel is proportional to the rudder position. The lever controls the amount of overall brake force applied. That's how I think it works and is similar to Russian aircraft in its implementation.

You forgot the AV-8B It also has thrust reverse by angling the nozzles back, although it is more delicate than the Viggen & can get you in trouble a lot quicker
