Moore's law, even if it's an observational law, is still valid today and probably will continue to be correct for a decade or two, but, as we can see Intel slowing down and changing the tick-tock model, we'll see new processors on the market at a significant slower pace than the '70s, as you mentioned. On the other hand, the programmers actually have the software tools to extract every bit of performance from any CPU or GPU, for that matter. So, be prepared to spend more on both hw upgrades and DCS modules, because this will be the 'not so far' future.. until they'll run out of atoms.. then we'll see..
