** UPDATE: Ground Radar 2.0 & Multiplayer Flight Planning **
Johnny Dioxin replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Looks great - well done. I hope one day I can learn to use it properly. -
What do you do first when the tomcat is available?

Shoot it down. -
I'm disabled - VR is almost a life-saver for me (at least,a sanity saver). Fortunately, flying and driving can be done seated (although both are still a strain) as well as Elite, but when I feel up to it and venture into games like Serious Sam in VR, it is just massive, massive fun and I can't get rid of the smile on my face. It's such a shame those games are really only viable in roomscale - same with Onward, Plavlov VR,and Drop Dead. Fortunately, some of those can be played sitting down, with limitations. Like Doom (the excellent VR mod), In Death and Drop Deap, as well as Gun Club - but I've been gaming since the early 80's (well if we include 'Pong' - since the 70's) and there has been nothing even close to what VR brings to the table. So the resolution isn't on a par with a 4k monitor - who the hell cares? It's just an awesome experience. To me, the naysayers are just sad people who need to dig themselves a deep hole and jump in it. See the wood and the trees, fer chrisssakes!

1080TI S Odyssey/ Shimmering/jagged mess
Johnny Dioxin replied to trigen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Is there not someone local to you who can try it on their PC? That would at least resolve the question of other hardware giving you grief. -
I agree - that's my current way of thinking, too, which is a shame, but there ya go.

It's by Rowland White - now, I'm not a big fan of his writing style, but I have read Phoenix Squadron and though I felt he had padded it out to a large extent with secondary and barely connected information, along with short biographies of every character mentioned and for a similar reason I just couldn't get into his book about the Vulcan strike on Port Stanley, I decided to give this one a go. Although he still tells the short biographies of many of the characters in the book, in most cases it is actually very interesting - such as the sort of experiences the SAS soldiers went through (such as learning to deliver babies) and where people learned certain tactics, and how their past experiences still haunted them and affected their decisions at the battle of Mirbat (where 9 SAS men fought against an entire company of Adoo guerillas). Not wanting to give anything away, but the primary public role of the large SAS presence in Oman was also quite a surprise (although also aimed at intelligence gathering, besides a "Heart and Minds" strategy). The main story is mostly about the way the RAF personnel seconded to the Omani Air Force backed up the SAS operations with airstrikes in their old Strikemaster aircraft, and supported them with similarly second-hand airframes such as the Beaver, Skyvan and heliborne ops using the Jetranger and Hueys. One thing that stood out early, was the tale of the Strikemaster brought down by a "spray-and-prey" burst from an AK-47, from which a single round burst a fuel line, bringing down the jet and ending the pilot's fast jet career. I immediately thought of the people in DCS (and other sims) complaining about the "Golden AK47" shot bringing down their simulated aircraft  Anyway, it's a damn good read, and I would recommend it to any enthusiasts - be they of the green or blue type :) I will forewarn you about his speech quotes, though, which are extremely annoying, but he persists with them throughout. eg: "What are you doing" asked the OC "about the Firqas in the area?" Every single speech phrase is printed in that way. :hmm: But I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. In case you haven't seen them - there is a documentary about this action, in the SAS: The Untold Story series, where a couple of the guys who were there recount the story. Might be on YT. There are some differences between the version on TV and that told by Rowland White, but that is probably to be expected. Edit: PS - I couldn't find that documentary on YouTube - luckily I recorded it from the TV - but I did find a couple of news articles:

Well, people, I'm still staggered by the amount of folks who believe everything they read on the internet - even by amateur websites (I like to call them e-tabloids) who are just desparate for more clicks and more advertising/sponsor revenue. The way I see it is this: I bought Rift on release. I'm very happy with it - it's a million times better than the VR we had before it (!). Maybe some day (hopefully whilst I'm still not too old to be able to enjoy it) there might be an even better version of it, and if it's not too expensive, I'll buy and enjoy one of those, too. In the meatime, I'm going to really enjoy what I have in my hands and on my face. The rest is unimportant. Have a nice day.

Best using the contact link to get support on the DCS website, I'd say. Alternatively, post this in the Forum & Site Issues section (where I see someone else is posting about the same issue...) https://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=63

Unfortunately, this is even an issue in some training missions in FC3.

I have to agree on that point - received tons of complete tat from Chinese traders on Amazon - most only barely resembling the product advertised. And in most cases, if it turns out to be a dud, there is nothing whatsoever you can do about it (unless you use Paypal and maybe a credit card - and even then it can be a hassle). The last time I tried to buy something from an unknown Chinese company with my credit card, the bank refused to pay it. Western companies rarely do this, because they know they will have to deal with the consequences and legal action is potentially just a few clicks away. Edit: Just to be clear, I'm not saying all products from that area is tat, or even that customer service will be poor - I've had some excellent service from some Chinese manufacturers, including free kit to test. But being cautious would be sensible for the reasons given.

I take it you have archived them - so is the archive format one that is accepted?
-
Listen, the point being made is whether the actual device is overpriced or not. Sure, you can buy anything at any price - earning enough has absolutely nothing to do with it, but this is obviously beyond some members of the community - and that's their problem, not mine, so goodbye and have a nice weekend.

Yeah, you're right! That guy who earned enough money to buy the Tower Of London and the Golden Gate Bridge wasn't a sheep at all!

Reccomend force feedback stick for DCS
Johnny Dioxin replied to solus's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I definitely wouldn't recommend the G940. I used to swear by it once and often stated here how great it was for flying the Ka-50. I had a lot of odd issues, though (same with flying the A-10C on autopilot). These issues turned out to be caused by the G940's FFB - the very thing that made it a great HOTAS was causing some loss of control and various weird flight behaviour. When I tried a Warthog HOTAS, against my expectation I found the control was much better - and with the X56 it was better still (even the old MS Sidewinder Pro was much better for gentle manoeuvres than the G940). After I realised this, I sold the G940, which I had used for 6 years with the Ka-50. -
Please change the mission names for the practise missions. A2A and A2G are not military terms, they are gamer/forum user terms and they make it look very arcade/unprofessional. AA or, as it was, A/A and AG or A/G are more accurate. Remove the slash for PC naming conventions by all means, but please remove the "2" :hmm:

I used to run a server with 3 of us flying in VR when we were on 1.5 - 2.5 brought its own set of new problems and I've not run it since. I do still have it set up for 1.5 on my second PC, which I could update to 2.5, but as I've not run that yet, I'm likely to run into issues. I also have no experience with the IC and I use - as I suspect many others do, Kegetys' VR optimising mod, which fails the IC. So whoever runs it, IC should be disabled, if possible. Otherwise I would be happy to run it every evening (zulu/GMT) for a few hours.

I asked this many times before (but a while since I last asked) - was never any response from online squads. Seems a missed opportunity.

Disable a lot of Google activity tracking

I use a "couldn't care less" attitude. Works better than anything else :) -
Although I think you were asking for it a little, don't take these posts too much to heart - it's normal for this place to get sarcasm and unhelpful responses (just as it's normal for some here to fall over backwards to try and help). There's also a distinct group of DCS module snobs here who look down on anything concerning Flaming Cliffs - even though without it DCS wouldn't exist. In the meantime, my Google site might help you a bit: https://sites.google.com/view/virtual-pilot/home/a-10a Also, if you have a read through the manual that comes with FC aircraft you should be pretty much sorted - it isn't difficult to operate, though it can seem a bit much to start with. I suggest watching some of the older FC videos as the changes made have been pretty minor, as far as systems operation goes. Since FC1, there have only been video tutorials for FC planes, with a couple of exceptions. I can provide further documents if required - I kept copies of all the old training stuff. There are also plenty of vids on YT - such as: This is actually a pretty good module, since they updated it. I would advise searching out Chris Frishmuth's (Beach AV8R) after action reports from FC2 - the missions he flew are still available in FC3. You will see how much fun can be had with this plane.

Water everywhere...all the time...
Johnny Dioxin replied to Whirlaway's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I had the water thing a couple of days ago, in Caucasus, whilst flying the AV-8B in VR at low altitude. After about 20 seconds, the terrain filled in. Not had this happen since Flaming Cliffs 1 -
In the past I have really enjoyed watching the continuing battle, after ejecting from my aircraft. Done this online and in SP - it's really good fun, and can be an eye opener as to what is actually going on, on the ground. Invariably, my ejections have been over enemy forces - this gave me a chance to see how they react to our attacking aircraft and indeed, our advancing armour. I think it's really useful, but whether useful for anything other than observation, I doubt it. If/when SAR missions become a reality, it will be another story, and the pieces are already in place for that. All we need is personal rescue beacons which activate on ejecting, and the ability to board helicopters.

Very arrogant - especially looking at your join date. Perhaps you should take your own sarcasm and apply it to yourself? The thread is asking for an update and trying to get a list of the requested fixes together, so it's easier for the dev to answer (not that I expect one, but you never know). Maybe you should read it before slating it? Congrats to the posters who put paid to the other dissers. Unfortunately, I can't remember the last time I flew the MiG-21, despite being an indigogo backer and very excited about it then. I've given up on it, but if it got sorted I'd be in it most of the time.

** DCS AJS-37 Development Update + Manual RC1 Release **
Johnny Dioxin replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
When you read with my eyes you can say this again (but you won't) and it seems others aren't overly happy, either. Now please allow us grown-ups to sort it out, thank you.
