[REPORTED]The trim does not work in flight.
HeadHunter52 replied to ThorBrasil's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
Yeah, I can still trim fine in the Stang. -
I've noticed a diferent feel from TIR with the 1.54 update. It works, but response changed. What I'm used to is gone and I'm having to re-train my expectations.

For the first time, I'm seeing vapor from the wings in my Stang. I can't say that I've ever seen that before. I thought I'd taken a hit and was smokin....

That was great!!! Maybe that was Whiskey from the Lafayette Esquadrille? MGM wasn't enough for him. :)

Yup. Cycle to another view then back via F1, and you will have full control of cockpit view.

LOL. Good luck pursuing this. It's been tried many times before and got nowhere, because "the gains in performance are minimal..." Stang gets no special love. You can get 67, if you go WEP. But don't stay there for long at 3000 rpm. Keep it around 2700 - 2800, and maybe full rich mixture to cool things down a bit. yer sig "rather than offer you the illusion of free choice I will take the liberty of choosing for you......" yes, limited MP was chosen for you to help keep your engine intact.

Surprised?

It's been a hugely painful week and weekend. I could use a :music_whistling:Happy Flight right about now.

1. I turn up my cockpit sound in audio settings. The air rushing past the canopy get louder the faster I fly. I have rudder trim mapped to two keys on my game pad, and make adjustments. This helps in rocket runs where I am diving. It also helps with turn coordination because rudder input changes with trim settings. If you need another visual cue, set your K-14 for a rocket run. The fixed sight will be displayed along with the gyro sight. You'll get a feel for how your rudder is working by the separation of the two. It's a strange feedback, but the movement of the gyro pipper will help you develop a sens of how you are going. 2. I'm usually around 2800, and 55" unless I really need some power - then I max it out. I keep oil and coolant "open" switches mapped, so I can cool the beast down. Depending on speed, I'll drop MP coming over the top, but only if I have speed over 275. Under that, I risk my engine by powering over the top - with rads open, of course. If the engine gets too hot, I dive away and cool off - and try to come back to the fight if some Kraut doesn't follow me. Ground cover. Works great with humans, not so much with AI. All of this supposes that you have altitude to trade for speed. Get too low, you'll soon be slow and hot, and then dead. 3. Set you model to large. If you think someone is out there, zoom OUT, and the sprite will get bigger. IF you are close, you cna zoom in and see the plane. Somewhere in the mid range, I find it hard to locate them, and use a mix of the above.

Is there a list of active servers that host DCS WWII stuff
HeadHunter52 replied to Pandacat's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Yup. Come on over and introduce yourself the the squadron. http://webfortress.com/dogsofwar/forum/ Helpful hints, tips a way to see what these great guys have been doing. It's been up for years, and lots of good info and banter are stored there. TeamSpeak is a must if you want to quickly get a feel for the sqdrn. My first time up, I felt at home. Great guys, real missions, and a home like feeling even for visitors. dow-dcs.duckdns.org DoW -
Well, with the Krauts talking down to "whining" Mustang drivers, it'll be a sweet song to hear them do the complaining when the skies host Spits and Jugs.

With the switches set properly, you can try this for the final steps. It helps me in servers and on missions where atmospheric conditions screw with the standard procedure. Make sure your throttle is opened no more than 1".... Hold the prime button for 8 seconds, then let it up. Hold the starter switch.... ad KEEP holding it. Watch the blades rotating past your canopy and count 8 of them. While holding the starter switch, run your mixture from Idle Cutoff to Run, and cycle to Rich, Cuttoff, Run... at 1 second intervals. You will see the engine try to catch on the Rich setting. When it does, get it to Run and KEEP holding the starter till the engine catches. This gets it for me 99% of the time. If things get stupid, you can always start out with ground power attached, and your battery won't run out - plus you'll get a stronger and faster initial rotation. If you see squadron guys on the Dogs of War server, you can reach them on TeamSpeak. The TS address is dow-dcs.duckdns.org, and the password DoW. Any one of us will gladly help you out.

Environmental Panel? More like a "Tell Tale" :>

Might be another lua file involved. What mods are you making to get to where you are at? I'll take a peek and see if I can get something going.

The Dogs of War server is a great place to get into a variety of missions that go well beyond air quake. Come check out what the miz-wizzards have produced. Try your hand at strategic efforts that make use of your tactical handling of your aircraft. No other server has as wide a variety of missions. Ground attack against stationary and mobile targets. Shipping raids. Bomber escort and kills Canyon runs, mountain passes, attacks above the tree line, navigating to distant targets in hidden areas.... And yes, a couple A2A only missions and contests, for those that want a break from thinking about missions requirements. Come fly with us. We might even let you go home.....

As the others have said, target type is important. I've not played with the BMG like my family has, but I'll relay that THEIR experience with it was rather positive. You'll not se a FUEL bomb, but you'll see FUEL AIR. Atomization leads to some big big booms. A car as a target is generally, not explosive because fuel is drained from targets. Tanks are aired out on purpose or over the course of time, from open caps and spigots. I have played with API .30cal. I got mixed results, and almost all of it can be traced to the flammability of the targets, and in particular, fuel to air ratios. Our family and friends' experience goes all the way back to WWII, in 3 branches right on down the line. If incendiary ammo was just to make the guys feel good, it sure did the job. Seeing the enemy cook lifted quite a few spirits. Not trying to beat up on anyone here. This community is filled with great guys. But API exists for very good reasons. I'd like to see it modeled.

Hiya Dark, They *should* be different, since the planes IRL did handle damage differently. The issue is the length of departure from reality amongst the several aircraft. From what I understand coming from flyers with more experience than I, the 109's DM is significantly less refined, and allows for quite a bit more survivability vs the real deal than either the Dora or Stang.. The guys point out that leaks in coolant and oil take much longer to cripple the plane in general. I've put solid bursts into wing roots and engines without much effect (except for one little single rounds in particular - you know the one). That's not to say that 109s aren't killed quickly. As with any sim, better pilots get better results, and t4trouble can attest to that. (NetMan, too, but he don't do vids....) One of the gripes against 109s is that the beta release isn't really a complete job. The last several months have seen numerous updates and patches... breaking wing tips fixed, WM, trim, speed, etc... But no DM work worth mentioning. I'm sure they will get around to it eventually. Maybe about the time the Stang gets some love in the form of ammo, fuel and IFF delete. In the meantime, we learn how to fight harder against that devil of a plane and the good pilots that ride them.
