  1. I'll take the P-40 as soon as it comes out - already bought. I'll shell out for the Spit, too. But my preferred ride will be the Jug. And like you, I'll go for an American bomber - any of them.
  2. Sure helps to have real-world experience and input. Hog drivers relating their take on things is golden.
  3. I think we all read it the same way Sith did.....
  4. I run an EVGA GTX 750. It is nowhere near what a 970 can perform, but I'm getting 55-60 FPS in DCS 1.5 (whereas I was getting 22-40 in 1.2). 1.5 is set to mostly high settings. I get a little micro-stutter now and then. So, I will be getting the 970 when the funds are available, and it will be an EVGA because of the reputation that company has. I know it will perform, the price will drop this year as new products come out, and I might decide then to run a pair of them when that happens. What I did to map out my upgrade path was to do spec comparisons over at NewEgg.com. I created a search, selected the different offerings in their comparison feature and reviewed specs side-by-side. I then went over to Amazon and checked out the reviews. I pay attention only to products that have a significant number of 5 stars, and over 100 reviews. Happy hunting.
  5. Last night, Sunday the 2nd, I had a chance to meet up with NetMan and Rush for some flying. "River Raiders" mission. (I blew the Professor's house and almost got his car on the run...... little bugger went off into some trees and disappeared. I'll get you next time you little . . . .) Invited Rush over to our TeamSpeak and he was on in minutes. We had a ball. NetMan once again made Ace-in-a-Day, with 6 kills. I managed 3, plus some ground targets. What stood out for me was the coordinated flying. The three of us were able to get into the middle of the same fur-ball, after approaching rather strung out. I called the lead and vectored us in from the left edge, and we kept each other in sight while maneuvering all OVER the place, in every attitude imaginable. We "passed" the ball. We'd take turns hammering someone, only pressing the attack and getting very cozy up there on a couple occasions. The sounds of all those engine within stone's throw was spectacular. Rush is a good pilot. Even using a hat for views - no TIR, he finds targets, and kills bad guys. Getting him on TS after the chat-windowing we've done in the past was nice. He's good to have in a fight, and he can wing with me any time. I had to go before they did, but I'd do it again. Dogs of War has awesome missions that go way beyond AirQuake BS, and require a pilot to imitate what our fine young men did up there, way back when. Hats off to Chief and the gang for creative writing and a wide variation of flight requirements for pilots. If any of you jet jockies reading don't do the prop thing because of a lack of navigation pressures, target mix and selection, and just plain too much arcade style BS, come over to DoW and fly with us. We're always looking for more good people to share experiences with. Soon enough, our 1.5 mission rotation will be as wide and varied as the 1.2. I think we had over 11 missions in that setup. You're welcome to fight the torque with us....
  6. I don't fly jets, but man, this is great! I did some of this in my Mustang to help get over a rudder coord issue, and it is great fun. Awesome way to build skills, confidence and friendships. Make sure everyone is on TeamSpeak, and the learning curve eases dramatically with good pointers, friendly jabs and taunts, taunts, taunts.... :D:D:D
  7. "The simple but honest truth is: they're just not quite there yet. At least visually. If a cockpit is 95% done and but there is a big white blob instead of a HUD– we'd rather ensure that we get that done before disappointing you. It will be a few more weeks until we are ready." .... few more weeks. :D:D
  8. Cobra, you are one hell of a good writer. Fantastic presentation. Oh, I'm all on board for the F4U. Aaaand, though I'm not much of a jet driver at all, that TOMCAT has my freaking name all over it - though I might start out as a back-seater...
  9. Mine runs fine. Other modules are Huey, Mustang and FC3.
  10. Yeah, ignoring foreign language forums should be a realistic option.
  11. Yup. Options can be winnowed down, but never added. On some servers with regular pilots, the settings are determined by consensus. These things can be changed with healthy discussion among the fliers. Just a matter of speaking up!
  12. That's art, man. Beautiful.
  13. Freaking nice!!
  14. You too, man. It's been rough, but blessings are appearing we never knew could.
  15. Make it count, ya'll. Love 'em while you have 'em. Be free with hugs, hand shakes and reconciliations where needed. LIFE is life...
  16. Back at you guys. Have some good relaxing and fulfilling time off. Priorities
  17. Not likely I'll have anything sim related to show off, but I'm in a lil nervous minority right now. Last month, two of my kids were rear-ended by an 18 wheeler. SUV was destroyed along with 2 others. But they survived. Bones are mending, and limbs almost torn off are working. I'm happy I still have them. That's my gift. Survival...... Still, I hope y'all get some good toys to play with.
  18. 344 positive reviews 1 neutral 1 negative ...since 2009. Appears to be french, from the comments' language in the reviews. I don't see a reason to suspect he's a bad dude. That's a lot of good reviews. But if you're in the States, shipping might be an issue, at least with the time involved.
  19. The Logitech G-13 GamePad is a small, left-hand side pad, a bit larger than a number pad with a palm rest. It has an analog stick operated by the left thumb. I set it up to control my rudders, and it works very well. There is not dead zone at all in that stick - just marvelous. I decided to forego the rudder pedal purchase because with this, I have no need of it. Besides, my legs get uncomfortable in that position, and I need to move them often to prevent cramps. I love the G-13. dOoOm from Dogs of War suggested it.
  20. He was ground crew. Radar /gun-sight shop. Worked on all the birds to make sure pilots could hit the bad guys. 36th still flies over there. Longest continuously operating squadron in the AF. :D Now, they fly Falcons. I don't have any color pics from that era, but there is a good Squadron Publication called Mig Alley that has some good renditions and photos. Some sites http://www.flyingfiendsinkoreanwar.com/Home%20page.htm - nice photo section [ame] [/ame] Some illustrations of the 36th in here... http://www.markstyling.com/f86s_fbg_01.htm This one has a lower shot of Miss Tenna on it... http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=34648.0
  21. I want it!!!! That 2nd from the back is the 36th FBS. My dad's squadron! 35th right in front, with the blue blaze. The "other guys" at Suwon.
  22. ... Tinian and B-29s.....
  23. The Mustang will learn ya whether you want it or not. It'll first teach you what NOT to do. You're left with options after that, most of which are okay if you learned from her well. She's heavy, doesn't like low speeds, and pulls hardest when flying fast. We all want to stay in the fight, but there are times when you must dive and break away in the opposite direction. So, in addition to keeping your speed up, and keeping the engine cool, keep some altitude in reserve. Altitude allows you to trade it for speed in a dive, and allows you to come down on low power (when safe) to quickly cool that engine you forgot to watch. Always try to leave a way out.
  24. Earlier this year, I could record voice from TeamSpeak using ShadowPlay, but not my own voice. Got an update and then everything was fine. Starting a couple weeks ago, it reversed. Now I can record myself, but no other voices come through. In-game sounds are fine. Anyone having this problem, or better yet - anyone FIX it?
