  1. there's really no reason that you... as the receiving pilot... should ever recognize that the tanker has increased speed by a measly 3 knots. it means your attention is probably somewhere it shouldn't be
  2. I believe the catapult performance has already been adjusted since that video was released.
  3. Russians have the gyros off for engine start. MIG-15 no such gyro can be heard.trk
  4. sounds like instrument gyroscopes to me, and when I remove electrical power I can hear them wind down.
  5. You could do a Reconnaissance fix.
  6. If the manual is still correct, the single MK82 on Station #3 should have a single green R light, not two of them... as it's a single unit. Is this still the correct intention, or has this changed and the manual is no longer accurate on this point? I just realized, does R=READY? That's neat. Seems a lot of my focus on this aircraft is the ACP, which does a fantastic job despite having no mouse control. Thanks for checking.
  7. can you post a track, it's still hard to understand exactly what is happening it looks like you have some axis somewhere bound to the zoom, but I really can't tell with just screenshots, I need to see the movement. At the end of the mission... the debriefing screen... there is a button named "Save Track" or something like it. Replay/Track are the same thing. Upload that file here. You don't need more than a couple seconds to show it. You don't need some gigantic mission which makes a massive replay file.
  8. can you post a very short track or video?
  9. check DCS controls, many modules default TrackIR to zoom instead of longitudinal axis
  10. where?
  11. Go into detail about the problems you are having with TrackIR. You've mentioned it 3 times in your post, and sounds like a lot of your issues could be resolved by getting it to work for you better.
  12. I just did a takeoff under your conditions from Nellis with little problem. In fact, the largest problem I had was the imprecise twist of my inexpensive joystick. But that's not the Viper's fault. I've had more problems with directional control in the Su-25T on many takeoffs with symmetrical loads than this Viper takeoff. Yes, asymmetry can cause uncommanded yaw even on the ground. Can you share a short track with the forum? So I can see your actions? And I can exactly replicate the conditions which are causing you the problem....
  13. AOA and the Hornet that's the title of your thread. your OP recommends people not focus on AOA when landing the Hornet "Don't chase AOA..." I can get the sentiment you're trying to share here, but a lot of us believe that telling inexperienced players to not "chase" AOA is really setting them up for failure. Especially when this airplane is really optimized for it. Telling them to not work the throttles, and instead wait for "ATC to get resolved." They need to learn to work the throttles, they need to learn to control AOA. They need encouragement for success, not a dismissal which could set them up for a bolter or turning the Hornet into a brick. I remember getting behind the curve and falling out of the sky just like I'm sure a lot of people did. It's part of the experience of flying this thing. Flying it right.
  14. We're talking about a different idea than you probably are, or at least different conditions than you may be expecting to judge them. Nope. In his tanker realm it would qualify as unstable by definition. His initial assertion was to undercontrol. He stated the outcome of that policy in the replies. No, just that it's procedures have some subtle differences is all. That's what we're talking about.
  15. I think it's still perfectly valid despite your protests to the contrary Wow, and cheaper than newegg by a lot! I know where I'm going to shop for my next one, thanks...
  16. so what? the interface has been established for 40 years now, basically requires no maintenance, and allows anybody to use the program even without a joystick. and there are users that actually use it. there's no benefit to removing it, and it looks bad to do so. keep in mind we are in the midst of a computer hardware crunch, and there are people in the world who are having difficulty finding joysticks so you approach this issue from a position of ignorance? to get back to OP, you're right the roll and yaw self centers, but the pitch does not. If you had pitch self centering the aircraft would porpoise during every input, because of pitch stability. Is that what you want? The current system appears to combine pitch and trim to a single command (elevator position) so that trimming is not required.
  17. Flight simulators have had keyboard flight control support since they first started. I see no reason they shouldn't stop now. We are aware of at least one user who was very skilled in the A-10C using just M+KB. I'll have to check, but I was under the impression the pitch and roll behavior were identical.
  18. glad we got you sorted, sir! carry on...
  19. Learn to fly AOA behind the boat (or FCLP). Get used to moving the throttles a lot, and by a large amount if needed. You don't need to wait for improvements to the ATC to do these.
  20. OP: Also OP: It's not a heavy tanker. It doesn't fly a stabilized approach to a stationary airfield. Give "the Navy way" a chance before you knock it.
  21. And as we've said before, you can't just compare prepared grass landing surfaces to random grassy terrain. They are not the same. An unpaved runway is still a runway. I think the Hornet doesn't get stuck in the grass, which is a problem which needs to be addressed if true.
  22. thanks but I know what he meant He didn't order them to engage the waves of invading enemy aircraft, or the history books would look very differently. So if there weren't airborne fighters to engage enemy jets, I doubt there were available AI for engaging Apaches in the desert. Thus, I also believe this statement is basically correct:
  23. so nobody else is gonna come defend the Flight Engineer? damn... he just got thrown under the bus
