  1. Very strong opinions you have there, I have to ask... have you actually tried flying DCS in VR? Because your points seem way off of the reality ( no pun intended...) of using it. People are different, so I can't say how it makes you feel, but for me, I don't get nauseous flying now. I did a bit to start, but then upgraded my PC. I also found other types of games more motion sickness inducing, like driving games. VR gives great depth perception and as others have said, I really couldn't go back to 2d monitors now ( and just for the record, I used to fly with a multi screen setup ) and that plus a touch screen monitor using HELIOS, etc still doesn't even come close to the feeling VR gives.
  2. I had the same issue with the gun sight. Hitting Ctrl1 did work for me. I do recall that a few builds ago Ctrl1 didn't work for me...now it does, strange!
  3. CV1 here. Disabling ASW ( Ctrl 1 ) did the trick for me as well.
  4. Go to settings / UI layer Then under "Action" find "As left mouse". Then assign which button you want on your joystick to that function, same with "As right mouse" and "move scroll wheel forward/back" functions.
  5. Do you press Lctl and num pad 1 while in game? I'm trying to turn mine off but not having any luck ( either pressing in or out of game ).
  6. Its Wags ( The producer at ED - Matt Wagner )
  7. As minimi66 describes, thats how I do it ( I actually prefer clicking by looking ) I also use a function of voiceattack that recenters the view cursor. One thing also to note, as of the last build where ED have intorduced clickable menus. This function is unfortuantely seprate to the "aiming cursor" so you get the blue cross for cockpit clicking as well as a white dot which you use to click the menus. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.
  8. Hmmm, that might be true as early access is hopefully ready by Dec 16th, though hopefully they have a couple more vids up their sleeves so can throw us a few more titbits before then.
  9. Nice work! My only question is... whens part 2?
  10. Ah, one problem solved...another discovered! The cursor is indeed working ( using the Hawk BTW ) however Im using it in VR and the VR cursor is different to the mouse cursor! Usually when I bring up the on screen cursor I get a blue cross, this I can use to point at various buttons, etc and use it with a key assigned to my stick. If I move my mouse this cursor also moves freely and I can of course click buttons using the mouse. Now when I bring up the coms menu I still have this blue cross, but if I move it over to the coms menu it doesnt do anything. However, a white dot apears which is now moveable only by my mouse. This clicks on the coms menu and works as expected. Is this a known limitation or is there any work around? Thanks! **EDIT** The two cursors are somewhat connected. If I move my head the blue cursor moves but the white dot stays still. If I move the white cursor with my mouse the blue cursor moves as well. They are positioned as below: + .
  11. In the patch notes it has the following: "Added clickable radio-menu" Do we need to set this up in some way? As I went into the coms menu and it certainly wasn't clickable for me. I understand that there is a mod available but before I download it I wanted to check if this has been implemented into the main game.
  12. Are you guys running just Black Sea? As the map does work in Nevada. ( I think it was in the last build as a fix ) @SageOT, thx for the suggestion, will try that out in the kneepad builder and see how get on. Cheers.
  13. Sorry, should have made myself a bit clearer. I meant in cockpit, so you can still actually see instruments etc. Like the kneeboard, just a map thats in a better res.
  14. Hey all, Any thoughts on what is the best way to get a "readable" map when flying in VR? I have been using the knee pad builder to get checklist, etc. However the maps are very hard to read. Has anyone found a good way to pull up a map which you can use to navigate with? Thanks!
  15. Thanks for the link. Looks interesting. I would love to see something that allows cockpit interaction, using my hand to "click & switch" the controls rather than bringing up the cursor that hovers over them ( which of course uses another joystick button to actuaute it ). There seems a couple of these types of interfaces in development at the moment. The key thing will be how easy ( if even possible )they will be to integrate into DCS. I would certainly be interested in getting such a device IF it achieves this smoothly.
  16. Just to echo the many, thankyou for these truly wonderful guides Chuck! I have recently got back into DCS and am also a VR convert ( Truly a match made in heaven ). I have flown a bit in the Gazelle but have been drawn back to the Huey... BIG difference in how they fly! But I'm getting used to it and have just started in earnest in learning the startup and basic flight. ( Thanks mostly to your guide!!! ) @Cibit I would like to do some multi player stuff at some point ( when I feel I wont be more hinderance than asset ) so if you have any extra cpacity please give us a shout. ( The main draw back with VR is having to keep taking it off to read the manual! LOL )
  17. Easy! Its a screen shot taken from this... :D
  18. The most I have felt sick is using a driving game before I upgraded my computer. I generally only feel sick in helo's and more occasionally planes when I crash ( quite a regular occurence in the gazelle to start with ). I found that if I close my eyes before I hit the ground I wouldn't feel so sick! I think it helps with reducing the disconnect between eye and the radical movement your brain is seeing and is really not happy with trying to process this visual assault. Works for me anyway and is far more realistic... If I was really going to crash into the ground, I'd close my eyes as well!!!
  19. Wow, that sounds a great setup. Please share some pics of it when it arrives! One thing I would add about cockpits. Before I got my CV1 I had the Hawk module and was somewhat underwhelmed with the quality of the cockpit ( even after they had improved it in a recent patch ) when compered to say the A10 or Sabre, however in VR it looks really pretty good. So you can't always directly relate what a cockpit in 2d will look like in VR. Also, I think you are doing in retirement pretty much what I hope to in a few years
  20. Having re read your post I think I understand what your getting at. So some thoughts on your questions...I dont run my monitor at 4k and right now I am only flying using the OR CV1. The display is no where near 4K at the moment, but as you say, in the future the displays will get progressivley better. ( Can't wait ). I would just say that at the moment some cockpits look better than others in VR. Some instruments will appear clearer than others ( which also depends on what pixel density level you set ). So it is a little dificult to provide a comprehensive evaluation of each product and how it will perform with a future generation VR product, all I can say is that having flown in VR I couldnt go back to a 2d monitor and can not wait for the future iterations of VR, as it stands at the moment with all its faults and lack of clarity it is ( IMHO ) the greatest advance in simming since the joystick! :joystick:
  21. Excellent, many thanks for the steer!
  22. I was thinking about getting back into flying the A10, but it would appear there isn't a solution for the HUD scaling at present, if you fly in VR?
  23. I would just like to echo those sentiments! Last night I installed the Mistral Carrier Mod and flew a couple of approaches in a Gazelle. I came in along side an almost full deck and aimmed for a free slot, once abeam of it I slowly shuffled my way in as the carrier cruised along. It felt so natural looking down to my right as the deck came up! Bloody amazing feeling! ( Flying in VR with OR ) My thanks and thoughts also go to Lilkiki who did such an outstanding job to give us this real gem.
  24. Pfft... Well that’s certainly not what I'd call a descent model... I mean where's the glue stained fingerprint on the cockpit glass or the decal that’s not quite straight and has a large tear down it, or the wonky front under carriage that doesn’t quite line up right as you had accidentally lent on the model while looking for the tweezers...:rotflmao: Sorry couldn’t resist, as it brought back memories of all my abject failures when it came to modelling. Stunning work, that is a thing of beauty! Well done that man!!!
  25. **EDIT** Worked it out, you do just make a folder called "tech" under Mods. Wow! Looks great in VR! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK back from my hols... forgive the dumb question but how do you install the mod...its says drop it in "DCS World/Mods/tech" I dont have a tech folder, am I meant to create one or drop it into terrains???
