Watch this video: My understanding of it is blah, but think of it as where the focal point is the most detailed, and it always follows you. Watch towards the end when the camera pans and the detailed parts follows

Dunno. Welcome to Mystery. Probably once testing is happening there will be a better idea and maybe even optimizations during that process
-
Texture size also translates into how much must be stored in memory for viewing.
-
Useless? Its the first time the size has ever been shown I believe. That image is not to show off the texture detail but to show the map size.

Im against it too. I was throwing out all possibilities. My guess 343 did it for nostalgia reasons. and its wayyyyyy less demanding than a sim like this
-
Concurrent game engines is possible in this age. Halo CE Anniversary uses two engines running at the same time. Also, since the GUI and simulator are separate programs, its entirely possible that the old engine will remain for Black Sea, and the GUI will launch the new engine for EDGE capable maps. A wonderful mystery until something official is said.
-
Unless anything comes from a Dev or ED staff member, I would never consider it official. Too many times people get confused by absolute statements by regular forum members. I would call that statement the most logical best guess given the context.
-
Dunno. I was theorizing. I believe they currently do in the current engine, and there have been photos of EDGE showing off dynamic shadows of mountains. I put the two together and had a theory of why have clouds in the land utility.
-
My guess is that since clouds cast shadows, you need to be able to see the effect and how they look/ change in the environment

I believe it is IE trying to be intelligent by scanning the general layout of the file, and determining that it should be zip. In this case, it gets it wrong. It probably is the same way that if you have a .gif file, rename it to .jpg manually and when you view it in internet explorer, it will still animate because IE scans and realizes that it really should be a gif. As the people above said, replace the .zip with .miz and all should be good

I live right in the area and the attention to detail is quite impressive. The groves on the side on the road are spot on, LAX is there with the neon light up poles and the restaurant. The Santa Monica pier is accurate even with the steps leading up to it and the Venice boardwalk. Even popular intersections are replicated, Sunset and Doheny blvd, and where Ocean Ave transitions to PCH through the California Incline

Lockon would be installed as standalone Flaming Cliffs 2 would be installed as standalone Flaming Cliffs 3 would be installed as module to DCS World

Green screen when I start a mission?
luckybob9 replied to Lavaman_X's topic in Video Corruption and Related Card Issues
The drivers are from 2011. I seem to recall this being an issue in the past or it was an issue for me in the past. Give an update a try and I'm willing to guess that will fix it. I tried to get the link for you but the ATI/ AMD website seems to be down for maintenance. EDIT: Ahh sniped by you while I was looking a direct link for your drivers -
Try opening them in the default windows 7 archive explorer thingy
-
I haven't seen that before. Drag and drop always worked for me. Which .zip archive?

Green screen when I start a mission?
luckybob9 replied to Lavaman_X's topic in Video Corruption and Related Card Issues
Click start -> type "dxdiag" and hit enter when the search populates. Then click the display tab. It should have the video card model and the date of the drivers. Post them both. Usually that's a driver issue Also, is your windows 32 or 64 bit? -
I actually find it easier than it was before. Say you want to edit a su33 texture. First step is to install the nvidia dds tools so photoshop can open and save in the .dds format. then find the texture you want in the su33.zip. drag it into photoshop. make your edits. save as .dds and drag back into .zip archive Ill put notifications on this thread for any questions you might have
-
I think you both want the same thing. Activate steam version with serials purchased on DCS website. I probably should have specified "I believe it is the same process but reversed"
-
I believe its the same process. put license key into steam and boom. However there might be a delay upon first purchase since ED may need to send purchased license keys over to steam
-
Welcome back Mizzy! Ill help best I can. CDDS archives are no longer used. They now usually convert the textures into .dds and then package them into a .zip file. Things are a lot more organized instead of just bmpworld1 bmpworld2 etc, in a sense that each major aircraft will have its own .zip archive with a naming scheme relative to the aircraft. (Example: the Su-33 archive name is Su-33.zip) You can just open the archive up and drag the file into photoshop. to resave them, you will need a plugin. I use the NVIDIA DDS tools: https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop It is also worth mentioning that the new model format, (.EDM), since lockon supports specular maps and normal maps Textures that are part of DCS: World aircrafts are usually located in: \Bazar\Textures Textures for general DCS: World items, buildings, ships, etc, are usually located in: Bazar\World\textures If the aircraft is a standalone mod, A10a, SU25a, etc, textures might also be located in: \Mods\aircrafts\[AIRCRAFT NAME] Textures for ground terrain and airports are usually located in: \Bazar\Terrain\vfstextures Textures for effects such as rivers and oceans and maybe other items are usually located in: \Bazar\Effects
-
I might be wrong, but my understanding is that steam DRM is only 32 bit so modules are still activated through starforce upon launching. So theoretically you could buy on steam and just use those serials on the DCS homepage downloads without ever having to run the steam versions
